Hmm, im in the UK, and Steam has release date as 12th August :(
well i still see August 10 in Czech (and in rest of EU with VPN) and August 9 with US VPN :-D
I guess thats brexit for you :-P

EDIT: well I guess not brexit - UK Aug12 release was announced even in original announment back in May :-D
After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.

strange wording ... this would also not only implied worldwide PC release on Aug 12 , but also no PS4 release outside of Europe and NA..

and iirc Japan's PS4 release 25th for example

:D Same to you dude.

I really hope hackers don't fuck this game up on PC and ruin it for the rest of us though. I'm more worried about that than bloody controller support.

I'm hoping they can build some intelligent rules into the game, VATS style. Like check what engines someone has, check the size of jumps they make, check their Units wealth etc, and lock/edit people's discoveries if anything untoward happens.

i thought the game was listed as single player and could be played completely offline

The worry here is more that hackers will be able to get to, say, the galactic center, spoil everything there, then teleport to any planet they want and 'rename' them all before actual legitimate players can do their work.

Basically spoil the experience rather than break it.

It can be. But I'd rather play online so that I have the chance, albeit a small one, to come across another player. As it would be quite the experience I think.
Picturing exploring lonely space one night when I catch a glimpse of a jetpacking player across the horizon briefly.. It can't be...I make my way towards him, my mind filled with endless wonder and possibilities....and, quite timely, my girlfriend accidentally pulls the plug on the router because she had to plug something in...A fleeting dream lost, to the ether.

Lmao amazing. Also a fair bit of nostalgia from the late 90's early 00's in that post. Can't remember the last time someone had to unplug something out of my router to put something else in!

Yeah I don't really get it, everyone says they didn't use the Superformula, then in an interview he said he is using it, now this video basically shows they are.

I guess the real question is, did they use someone elses superformula like that company that claimed they did, or...what?

The guys name is written in the slide lol.

He said Sean was 'looking into it' so maybe they decided not to use it in the end.

I have my limited edition pre-ordered but I'm so tempted to drop it and just get the digital copy. I know this is going to be a game I'd rather just be able to quickly load up on a whim, I just wish the PSN pre-order came with the theme instead of merely avatars.

I still don't really see how there can be a patent applied to something that's only an extension of somebody else's work anyway. I'm no lawyer though so I don't really know the technicalities behind it, but with Geilis' work being 100% dependant on and an extension of the Lame Curve I'm sure there must be some technicalities to it. I'm aware they have a patent, I'm just not sure it would actually hold up if tested. For whatever reason HG don't seem concerned so either they aren't using it or they feel there's little he can do about it.

Also if that is his name in the slide then it's spelt rather incorrectly. I'd guess it's just a typo though.

Exactly.

However, it made my PC-or-PS4 decision a lot easier!

If I had the money I think I would actually get both versions .
But that would stupid since I prefer playing with KB+M .

I will wait for review I am still sceptical that it's running at 60 fps on PS4 (all the time)

They likely created their own specific variant. It's a generalization of a 200 year old formula, so anyone can use that base formula to do whatever with.

I find it hard to believe that this game is incapable of running at 60fps on ps4. It's not like it's pushing the graphical boundaries. But at the same time it is a small studio and their own engine, so it might not be very well optimised. Will be interesting to see how it performs.

So, aside from the box art, do we have any pictures of what our players will look like? I just assumed we customized them at the beginning but then I realized I haven't seen any screenshots or videos of the player. I google'd and all I could find was the devs saying when we see other players we'll know because they won't look like anything else in the game, so does that mean it's a secret? We might never know?

It's a spoiler apparently. We won't know until we see another player (unlikely). It's meant to be some kind of surprise.

I wonder if perhaps players will be of difference alien races depending on where you start. You could then have understanding of that race's language and inherit any prejudices against you from other races and factions.

Would be kind of neat if they had some sort of story where individuals from each race (the players) were touched with a vision of what may be in the center of the universe that compelled them to seek it out. Kind of like Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Edit: Even if players are not of existing races, it will still be interesting to see how the game motivates your character (or you) to seek out the center. Can't wait to see what kind of narrative they provide or if they keep it completely mysterious and let the players and community figure it out.

So did you actually listen to what was said in the presentation? Or did you just look at the slide?
"anything you want to add to the terrain, you can be thinking about any mathematical solids you can create in a voxel field. So a good example of that is the superformula, something that sean has been looking at recently. It's a simple formula laid out in the paper there. Which will let you create some really natural shapes. And again... that's not... You can really dot them around the terrain like the shot there just to give an example of how it would work. But it's the kind of thing we'd layer with other techniques."

1) Sean was looking into it in june of 2015... So not something that was never put into the base of the game.
2) It was an example of the kind of method that could be used. He never said it was one even integrated into the game.
3) He was speaking about it in the future tense, as in something they were thinking about (see 1) as a method for making some 3d natural shapes.

I really wish they'd send out a tweet or something and clear up the release date. I requested a day off for the 9th and I can probably still change it if I can confirm soon.

Same here, I'd really want them to confirm or deny stuff, their PR hasn't been the best to say the least. I know they're a small team but a quick word out would help alleviate people pain, if they wait longer, it'll just piss more people off.

Unless the PS4 version of the game isn't coming out anywhere but US/EU, the statement on the website is demonstrably incorrect. There is no reason to worry over a delay.

She says 'a good example of this is the Superformula'. Did you even watch your own link?

Yeah, for the forth time. It's a great vid. Are you American by any chance? Perhaps you're not familiar with the way British people express something. 'Sean was looking into it' from a British perspective is 'Sean was considering using it'. That's why I then wrote he probably decided against using it in a later reply.

You'd have to be pretty pedantic to suggest [paraphrasing here] 'A good example of this is the Superformula. Something Sean was looking into' is merely placing it on the slide as a simple 'example'. They clearly thought about using it and Sean was working on implemented it. But because Sean has said they didn't use the formula, they obviously didn't use it in the end. I only pointed it out because THAT'S likely were the guys who wrote the formula got it from in the first place. It's not as if they had access to the actually No Man's Sky code.

It probably says "partial" because you need to use your keyboard to type the names of things you discover. Since that technically means you can't do everything in the game with gamepad alone, Steam is obligated to say partial. "Full" just has to mean you can boot up the game and use a controller to do EVERYTHING, from the main menu, through all gameplay, to closing the application.

Yeah, even if a game launches into a settings window prior to the game booting fully it will end up saying partial controller support.

So the steam date is outdated as it still says Aug 9? Friday the 12th is the day now for US PC? Asking to see if I need to update my PTO.

Nobody is 100% sure right now. It would be safer to just take the 12th anyway because the game will certainly be out by then.

'I'm looking into making a cookie, a good example of this is Maryland cookies.'

'Oh my God! He's repackaging Maryland cookies!'

It really makes you entire 'ahem' moot, mate (see, I did a British thing). You made a post without any context and then seem quite upset people were like 'what are you even saying?'. We know the didn't use the superformula, they looked into someone else's either as a potential for use or just how to do it, made their own. Nice. Either say that this is your point or get lots of replies.
