Also that moment when you realise any quirky creatures/plants the person might see in the video... Will probably never be seen by another human being. Even. What the hell.

That one moment where he
drops down into the cave and finds that insane jumping plant thing, my jaw dropped. That was the best player-AI interaction I've seen in all the NMS footage, and it was completely unscripted.
They really should show more weird stuff like that in the trailers and commercials.

I watched it anyway. This is everything and MORE that I expected. Love it.

Yeah, I think it reaffirms just how much of a "goodbye, real world" kind of game this is going to be.

I need to bounce out till release day to avoid spoiling myself. The non-spoiler reactions already posted from the video makes me even more excited for the game and staying in here much longer means my willpower might break on me.

That 26 min video is actually a pretty good set-up for the vibe this game gives. Its basically a hardcore survival crafting game, with a fuck ton of creative things to explore. There was only like one or two small things i didnt know about before that was in the video.

The 26 minute video has done a better job at communicating what this game is then any of the official footage. It's nice to see the game just being played not just landing on a planet looking around and then flying back out to space like ever video they put out.

It was great when he fed the creature and it actually went and found him health, I'm wondering if each creature behaves differently and some would find secrets

I'm positive this was posted but not sure if I saw the second part.

thus instructed, I'm going dark. Can't even talk about this game online again at the risk of spoiling something- no matter how small- that I would've preferred not to be. I know tons of people out there want as much info as possible to help them make their purchasing decision and I get that, but I'm putting my trust in the vision they had for this thing until I experience it for myself.
but if there are so many planets how can watching 20 mins of gameplay video spoil the game for me?

Well, I caved and watched the ~25 minute video. I’ve watched every interview and trailer, so some more game play sounded really good.

Not gonna get spoiler-y, but from what I saw, No Man’s Sky is the game I’ve been waiting for. I can tell that I’m going to spend quite a bit of time on my original planet, just getting used to the mechanics. I’ll have to hit every waypoint and take SO many screenshots. There just seemed so much to do.

I really just can’t wait to play. Really glad this is coming out soon.

I succumbed and watched the 26 min video, and I'm glad I did. I'd maybe go as far as to say that they just needed to show something like this like a year ago, and people would probably loose their minds over the game. I really respect the massive effort of not showing anything, but in this day and age I don't think it helped the magical feeling of discovering everything by ourselves all that much, because there's a lot of gameplay systems at play there that gamers are familiar with. In any case, I'm still glad they did, and even more glad that it looks like what I've expected it to be, but more.

I honestly had a big grin for the most of that video, and I can't wait to play this game.

Just imagining going through all that resource juggling, and then finally leaving the planet, looking down on your seemingly tiresome struggles and feeling how insignificant they are in the grand scheme of things, flying through space... Basically, I can't wait to get tired of that. :)

Pretty much.

Switch my delivery to my work address. I dont want to come home and have a ups sticker on my door. Contemplating pre-ordering the pc version too.

There's really nothing other than the brief intro in the 26 min video that we haven't seen already.

I'm surprised Sean didn't use something like this for all those E3 shows and preview articles/interviews. It's really just the nuts&bolts gameplay and with more of a purpose to it than just aimlessly running around pissing off the Sentinels on Balari V.

It didn't seem spoilery to me at all.

In fact, I WISH it did show something I hadn't seen or known about before.

But, I can wait another 11 days or so.

That part blew my mind, too. The total randomness of just coming across something like that, and realizing that he's the first and probably only person to discover that really gets my mind racing.

Honestly, I don't think there's anything in either of the gameplay videos that would make you feel as if you ruined the experience for yourself. The player barely did anything and barely even knew what he was doing, he didn't go in-depth in any menus we haven't seen or anything like that (didn't even go into the options menu), no lore, no shocking events. Also didn't even go into the map.

There is really only one thing that would probably make some people wish they found out on their own, but even still it's not that big of a spoil because we still don't know exactly what possibilities there are with said spoiler.

The guy's genuine surprise is what sells it

On the topic of the 26 minutes of gameplay video, I kind of wanted to see him
leave his first planet
but at the same time I'm kind of glad I didn't. If that makes sense.

It's all fun and games until a sentient life form evolves inside the game and tries to take over the universe. Theirs and ours.

Thanks Sean.

Ooookay, that's it for me. Going dark. Clearly this game is full of stuff that nobody has seen yet. See you's on the 9th.

i just feel like this is sort of an obvious thing to the people who would care about it, and obviously not a big deal to the people who don't care about it. I'm sure it's nothing major in the first however long it is that gets spoiled, but they have been very, almost painstakingly careful to reveal only a tiny bit of the systems in the game and they did things that way for players like me.

Just had a thought that may or may not be well received here but if there is so much variety to see and explore in the 18 Quintilian planets in the game, why would they be so worried about a couple videos releasing early?

Even if they streamed it 24/7 until the 9th there isn't any way you could experience it all.

Sure, you could probably get a good grasp of a lot of the gameplay mechanics (but the pre-release videos/interviews/etc... can do a good job of that) but there is no way to see it all.

Perhaps they know it gets a bit repetitive and don't want you to see it.

Just speculating here. I'll probably still be there on day one (PC version) as even if it is a bit repetitive it's still the kind of game I am interested in. Wouldn't have flown 65,000 LY to the other side of the galaxy in Elite: Dangerous if I didn't enjoy exploration.

EDIT: Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this

Because it's not just about walking around and looking at the graphics. It's staggering how people can still be blind to the gameplay. If that vid hasn't sold them on the gameplay and made them hungry to find out more about this game then I don't think this game is for them.

It's about the gameplay, the systems, the wonder of it all. I want the very first planet and very first lifeforms I see (outside of the trailers) to be my own.

Not everything is just insignificant procedural assets, there are things, such as NPC races with lore, that is actual spoiler material. The game is huge, but there are still specific things they want all of us to discover.

I highly doubt they are worried about thinking people will find the game repetitive, I mean they've been showing and talking about the same things, barely revealing anything significant, since they revealed the game lol.

That's why every planet is going to be worth exploring and why I find it funny when people say they're sick of seeing Bolari V. It's a planet, a frigin' planet sized planet.

One thing im curious about is if planets will have unique locations, or if they are just evenly scattered things to find. It would be pretty cool if you walked on a planet for days to discover something you have never seen before. It would actually make exploring valuable. Actually in thinking once you get in your ship and the planet lights up with icons it will be quite easy to reach a specific place so there probably will be unique things.

The vid was brilliant imo, echoing other people in really whetting my appetite for this game. As if things weren't aready bad enough!

It annoyed me watching him play though, I kept wanting to shout
'Just transfer the stacks to your ship! The element you need was just highlighted right in front of you!'
but I guess that sort of irritation comes hand in hand with watching any stream/let's play vid.

I think Sean is just not wanting people to be spoiled on the initial narrative of the game, the first tasks every player will be asked to complete
rebuild your crashed craft
. But I think every review of the game will have a description of it in the first paragraph.

I expect a lot of "Captain's Log, Stargate 62125. ..." reviews.

Here are some quotes from the guy who leaked the gameplay videos:

Daymeeuhn said:
There are more spoilers than you probably realize with this game. I'm only a couple hours in, barely touched a few planets and already I've had many FUCK YEAH moments. In the one hand, I'd love to share those with you - but in the other hand, Sean is right... why not just wait and experience them first hand? I dunno. The first videos I posted were perfect - they spoiled nothing and just showed a taste. I'm sort of glad that was the contribution I was able to give out before they were taken down, and I quickly started hitting new stuff I was reluctant to post.

The guy is actually reluctant to post new things due to spoiling things. There are apparently very spoilable things in this game, that haven't been shown before or possibly even hinted at. Sean Murray has been noticeably guarded about what he's shown of this game for years. More cynical people thought this was because the game was simply shallow, or that there just "wasn't much to do". Now we have a reliable source saying there are loads of new unseen mechanics/gameplay elements/item types/whatever the case may be, that are surprising and thrilling to discover.

So to boil my point down, the game isn't just a walking simulator for generated planets. There is much more to it, and part of the intrigue of the game is discovering it all.

As an aside, I find it interesting that the leaker considered the two videos he posted spoiler-free. Not that I think they have spoilers necessarily but I feel like I learned a LOT by watching them. I can't even imagine what he saw in the next couple hours. I can't begin to imagine what you would see in the next 20+ hours of playing.

Release can't come soon enough!

Thanks for sharing Vexidus. Man I stayed away purposefully all year from this. Had the LE pre-ordered for months with zero 'hype' this whole time. But I have had so much intrigue and excitement in these past two days alone... so glad how it is transpiring with me. Grounded, but still super stoked.

A little over a week!!!

Thanks for posting this!

I think it's fair to point out that while I have been interested in this game since it was first announced; I've always remained skeptical of Hello Games ability to deliver a fulfilling gameplay experience given the procedurally generated nature of the game.

The video itself is limited in scope so I can only draw limited conclusions about the structure of the game, but I think it's fair to say the main gameplay loop consists of gathering resources through various means in order to further your exploration of the universe. A sense of wonder and exploration are the driving force pushing you deeper into uncharted territory. The chance to visit a planet nobody else has been to and may never visit will allow players to develop their own self-narrative. Those three factors are very evident in the video you linked, and I think will be evident throughout the entire game. How successful No Man's Sky is will depend on how long it can hold people's interest. I don't think many people will get to the center of the universe, but I also don't think that means the game won't provide a fulfilling gameplay experience for most.

In the video you can definitely see some rough edges expected of a game offering such a huge universe to explore. For example, when the player is breaking down various terrain elements some are left suspended in mid-air even if the supporting structure underneath has been demolished. Several of the life forms he encountered looked rough and animated fairly poorly. I do believe the game looks to offer a great sense of wonder and exploration. The planet he was stranded on seemed fairly hostile in terms of habitability, so he was forced to figure out how to repair his gear and which resources were necessary to do so. Hello Games ability to keep the fauna and flora varied and interesting over the course of the game will be a major challenge. Even if the enemies are varied in look, their behaviors might not be different enough to keep players interested in discovering new creatures. The same could be said about the planets.

I think this game will be just as divisive after release as it has been in the years of pre-release speculation. I think you will still have people complaining that it's a game about nothing, while others will find value in the player driven narrative. I think sharing your experiences online through forums, youtube videos and the like will be a major factor for some people.

I am looking forward to experiencing the game myself as much as I am seeing how the gaming community at large reacts to it.

When Sean tweeted I'm sure he was also expecting the guy to release more videos. I think there's more gameplay (and in general) surprises in store for us (edit: and that quote Vexidus showed supports that), and doesn't want some of those discovery moments spoiled. Considering how anti-spoiler he's been throughout development, it's not surprising he would say that. But then I'm very much in Sean's mindset on that...there were some previously unseen non-procedural things the player came across in the video I immediately skipped past. I'd rather discover those kinds of things myself.

Watched 18 min of that vid and as I've been following pretty closely for 3 years, game is exactly as advertised. Not that it's going to shut any trolls up or anything, but I'm gonna be "Hello Worlds; Goodbye Real Life" on the 9th.

Man, I was about to pre-order when something occurred to me!

I couldn't play The Witness because it gave me motion sickness. And I mean, 30 minutes of playtime had me in bed felling horrible for a couple of hours.

Do you guys think this game will be the same?

I generally don't have a problem with first-person games. I play Destiny for hours at a time without any adverse effects. But some games like The Witness and Far Cry 4 just put me out of commission.

Thus is a deal-breaker for me. I wish I had a clear answer. Kinda hard to know unless I spend money and find out.

The answer to that would be to buy it for PC so you can adjust the FOV to something comfortable for you (95 for me, but you would have to experiment)
