Well, there you have it then. I think I'm certain this is the structure and the reason this guy isn't seeing the strangest stuff yet.

And LOL at people who say I'm 'setting myself up for a disappointment'. Do people really invest emotionally in this stuff? It wouldn't disappoint me at all. I'd just be wrong.

Nothing wrong with dissapointment, your obviously emotionally invested in it, your one of the top posters. Your investment with excitement.

I'm disappointed that things don't get crazy 30 hours in this far. As a busy father of 2 even 30 hours invested in a game is a miracle. And with all the other gems on the horizon I know I won't continue with this, regardless of multiple galaxies. The charm will be long gone by that point.

You think your explanation is making things better, but it is actually making it much worse. The guy playing right now has been going at it for 30+ hours and has been using what at best feels like a bad design decision to travel much faster than should be possible...and he STILL hasn't reached the end of this rather boring galaxy. If you didn't use this trick then you could easily have to spend 100s hours or more in the rather bland first galaxy. Even for the people who say that all they want to do if fly around and see different planets, this is a fatal flaw in the game. It means that you are going to be stuck seeing the same ordinary stuff for 100s of hours. That is a HUGE pacing problem.

It didn't look boring to me, it just looked like a boring guy playing. I'd spend hours on that fist planet. I'd also be exploring a hell of a lot more because I know lots of planets don't have much life on them as Sean pointed out.

After careful consideration and learning that this one guy has been playing and from lil snippets that I heard I can 1000% say that the game will be boring, I mean hes probably seen what? Like 10-20 planets or so eh he's seen em all at that point. All he's been doing is collecting, crafting, scanning etc it's boring. The center is probably a famous science quote. Knew this would be spore 2.0

I read that theory and it's been passed around for a while now but I don't see it. Even though I am excited for this game I have realized this is it. We keep making up excuses for diversity and excitement for the game when we are disappointed so to speak. I'm sorry, but if I don't see natural progression in excitement and variety over 30+ hours of initial play through I'm not going to be happy, let alone have thr motivation to push forward on " maybe now this will get cool "

90% of people don't complete a game, let alone push through multiple times. This is why that theory goes against anything logical in terms of laying out groundwork for a game.

Completely agree. You explained it much better than I did.

What joy do people get out of these posts?

Yes because one persons views are the most important views. Or is it that you want it to be? It's a difficult one to call ...

Hmm, so there are lots of menus and inventory management? I was actually looking for a relaxing summer game, nice colorful visuals, chill soundtrack. Maybe I should stick with Abzu. The exploring still sounds great though.

I am just going to drop this on you.

People calling it Spore 2.0 are full of rich, creamy shit and have no idea what they're talking about, inflated their own expectations of No Man's Sky through delusional and idiotic romanticisation, and/or have no fucking memory of Spore.

The thing with Spore is that it was marketed and presented as a more robust and ambitious project than what we actually got. A lot of this has to do with EA's fuckery and deconstruction of the original vision. But Spore is a very clear cut game of fans being told X and Y, being shown X and Y, and then X and Y being downgraded or in some cases outright gutted from the game upon release. It was still an immensely ambitious project that to this day I find impressive, but fuck me that game was butchered.

On the other hand No Man's Sky, low and behold, looks exactly like all the pre-release media we've seen. There's a video out there, I can't remember where, of Sean demonstrating decent chunks of unbroken gameplay. And it matches the leaked footage to a T.

Did people just imagine a game that didn't exist? How the fuck am I supposed to be sympathetic to that? Oh gosh you have to mine heaps of materials and use them to unlock and upgrade things. The landscapes are quite barren and the encounters are a bit dull. No fucking shit. It's not like all the pre-release media has demonstrated exactly all of this already long before the leak.

I swear some people were expecting Mass Effect on steroids.

Sorry for whats probably a repeated question, but do we know what the PS4 performance will be? Not sure if I should get it on PS4, or my PC.

There's a planet out there for you. It's just a matter of finding it.

Yes, that's been established multiple times now. What's happening here is people are thinking the creatures and planets should be getting stranger as the guy nears the centre of the galaxy because they're thinking in terms of 'finishing' the game, but Sean has referred to getting to the centre of the galaxy as a new beginning. He's also said that as you get closer to the centre of the 'universe' things get stranger. Put the two together and you have your solution. They're not getting stranger for this guy because he's on the fist galaxy. The next galaxy will be when things start getting stranger. And then the next and the next and so.

It explains why we all start on the same galaxy too. The galaxies are levels of difficulty.
I don't understand where all this ambiguity came from in the first place. It's baffling.

Sean has mentioned plenty of times the context of a Universe. When he pan's out of the map there's a big bright light...that's literally the centre of the game. The centre of it's Universe. That's where we all need to be getting to.

It's going to take ages.

The centre of the Galaxy is a starting point.

Maybe I should go play shooter or action game # 9,974,672,175 instead. Thanks for the heads up. Pre-order cancelled.

Sean also said we might never reach the center of the galaxy we start in, much less any other galaxies or even the universe itself.

So, this first galaxy needs to be interesting enough for anyone to even CARE to get to any other places in the universe.

But that's not even my biggest concern...

My biggest concern is that because there was no open (or even closed?) beta, there are probably bugs and exploits that have gone unnoticed and people will be zipping through the first galaxy without much effort, devaluing the experience even more.

You can't really test a game's economic exploits with drones or bots. All you need is one vendor who overpays for some easy to gather element and you're a spacebucks millionaire. Did they have a QA team outside of their own office staff? Stuff like unlimited money exploits can kill a game that requires you to steadily accumulate your wealth. I hope that's not what's going to happen.

He's maxed out due to an exploit allowing him to earn lots of units for very little effort.

I'm assuming it's not intentional and will hopefully be fixed for launch.

It's a little worrying that only a few people have the game early and someone already found an exploit. Potentially others to find once thousands are playing it

There's been so much bitching, derailing, people hoping for this game to fail and just a few who are downright trolling that I do not have the need to analyze every post with my sarcasm detector.

There has not been a day that has gone past without some poster throwing a shit post in the middle of a conversation, leaving the thread never to reply again. Stuff like that deserves a ban.

People are entitled to their opinion but at least have some compelling points in your post of you explaining as to why you feel the game would not be for you. Blatantly saying; "knew this would suck. Just gathering materials, going from one planet to another. Boring" - What the fuck did you expect? As Eat Children mentioned, the developers never hyped this game to be something that it is not. It stayed true to it's audience. If you expected anything else the hype got to your head, and your imagination decided to add elements that would never be present in the first place.

Just because one dude has seen a handful of planets in a galaxy of billions of stars doesnt mean there is not much variety in the first galaxy.

The exploit might not even be an exploit.

Procedural exploits hm...

What exactly is the exploit?

There is
item(s) in the game that sell for insane amounts of credits making money worthless. Also apparently spots for those item(s) also have warp drive fuel at them so travel also becomes super easy and free, basically.

Not exploit tho because it is by design of devs.

It already has happened, with the first guy to have a copy. Imagine when the masses get their hands on it.

I'm not being pessimistic, I'm legit excited but a discussion always has two sides, right now the negatives need the spotlight now that they are revealing themselves.

Indeed. Hopefully HG will find out about any other exploits and fix them. Not the sort of thing I'd personally use as it would totally ruin it for me. I can see why others would use exploits like this though.
