It does seem to get crazier the deeper you go
True!

The game is out in ~3 weeks!! --> Someone got the game early? Clearly it's faked.

There are people saying this game looks bad?

If its not your type of game, don't buy it. Doesn't make it a bad game. I hated GTA 4. Doesn't mean its a bad game. Just wasn't for me.

Yes. Oh god yes. There is an armada of people who don't like this kind of game and are shitting on it / "concern trolling" those that do. It's fucking ridiculous.

So I think I understand a few things from that stream.

1. Weapons/tools at least have their own base stats, visible as little circles with icons, with borders that fill. My gut tells me those are base stats.

2. The layout of weapons and gear are VERY important, not just the amount of space because...

3. Upgrades need to be next to their core technology. When upgrades are inserted away from the core tech, their border is grey. When put in next to core tech, their border is highlighted red alongside the core tech. You can't move your core tech, so you find new ships/guns/outfits to give you better layouts so that you can surround your tech with your ideal upgrades.

4. This doesn't seem to be noticed by either of the streamers, which explains their confusion on upgrades not working.

From spoilers thread re:upgrades and why OG leaker could not get them working.

Jesus christ.

How is it that the people who get these things early can never pay fucking attention to what they're doing?

Admittedly, streaming and playing can be hard and your attention is mainly diverted to making for an entertaining/compelling watch - hence the constant rush to progress - and probably leads to players missing a lot of simple mechanics.

I caved and watched that Kengi stream of the new guy claiming to have a copy.

I only watched around 10 minutes of it. Felt like enough without spoiling anything significant.

I can safely say that, if you already pre-ordered this for the premise of what Sean promised (nothing more, nothing less) you will definitely will not be disappointed.

The entire time I was like "Damn.. This looks good" - This game is definitely for the explorer amongst us. There are just SO many variables.

And that soundtrack. My goodness, that soundtrack. I can't wait for this!

I didn't mean the overall game. By 'bad' i meant there are certain things in the leak that some people don't like or don't live up to their expectations that they therefore try to claim are just wrong in his game, such as how long it took him to get to the centre, or how common life is on the planets he visited.

Those are things they're saying must be incorrect and suggest it's an early version, rather than admitting that's how the game actually is. Basically it's like they're saying "These things sound bad so your version of the game must be wrong"

This was my impression, too.

The early streams have that classic vibe of everything needing to be 100% entertaining, rushing through content, rushing around.

But if you look past that and imagine what you would do if you were standing on this planet, then the potential quality of the experience begins to shine through. There is so much space; so much to explore. 'Points of interest' show up even quite far in the distance though you might not know what they are, and travelling to them can be dangerous. It's all fucking cool.

And yeah... dat soundtrack

Yeah, I think Sean didn't do a bad job of explaining his game. It's the massive amounts of speculation, hyperbole, and silly defense forces coming to the rescue of any criticisms that rose expectations far too high. The game has such a weird, warped perception of what you do that it's almost too far detached from what you actually do in the game.

I blame the fans for that.

Something that is going on atm or recoded? Would love take a look if possible :)

----

What do we know about PC port? Do we have any info on performance [30, 60, unlocked FPS...?] and if we get to mess around with settings like FoV?

Stream link for me?

I'd love to take a look too if possible

Me too please.

Could someone PM the link to me, as well? Thanks

Done :lol

After a hard day at work:

1. sit down and grab a cup of tea/coffee
2. Put on some nice headphones
3. Boot up NMS
4. Escape reality for a few hours and enjoy exploring these unexplored worlds.

Rinse repeat.

Also, the music has sold me already. Sounds amazing, especially the galaxy map.

This is just what I needed to hear. Thank you.

I've got the signed quadruple vinyl of the soundtrack ordered. 65DaysofStatic are a great band, and them being involved is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the game.

Glad I'm one of those people that saw this game for what it was from the off, and was hyped on that basis.

Well if you don't visit the planets and instead rush to the centre of course it won't take you 100h.

Well, that's up to you :D If you rush and skip planets, obviously you'll get there quicker. If you visit every planet you can, you'll die before you reach the center. It's up to you.

I guess you are right. 40h for a speedrun is also fine I guess.
I just assumed that the scale is so huge, that even with going right to the centre would take a lot of time.

It is not a great deal anyway, I will probably approach this very calmly and play for exploring itself, and not rush anywhere. I hope that's what is great about this game - I hope I can come home from work, and spend some time discovering new worlds, whenever I feel like it.
And that it's interesting.

I'm not sure I will like it, because what makes me want to play most of the times is good story. But I want to try it.

This is pretty much why I'm buying the game: I just want to explore.

It's the same reason I used to play driving games like FUEL, Test Drive Unlimited 2 and The Crew, just settle down for a few hours, point in a direction and go.

But now I get to do it with a whole universe.

This thread is the only thing that has kept me sane during the wait but I just can't stay in here if people keep discussing the leaks.

There is a spoiler thread, please use that to discuss the leak. I'm not having a go, I know the hype is real.

Out of all the media interviews 2 IGN firsts. What did people expect the game to be?

Can't afford the 65days vinyls yet. But I did get some tickets for their gig in London in November. Will be good hearing those NMS songs live. :D Supermoon!

It's a huge cycle of shit. People hype up the game and get defensive, then people troll them, and then they defend their game, and then the trolls come in, and then yadda yadda.

Meanwhile people in the middle get shit on with misinformation.

Same! Very hyped, I've only managed to catch them live a couple of times before. And those were 10 years apart.

So surreal to see them billing it as a tour for a videogame soundtrack.

What misinformation? Is there a list of things that people thought the game would be but were misinformed?

I don't get it. It's not like the game is one huge secret.

Honestly I hope I don't come across a planet with life on it for a LONG time. I'd rather explore dozens and dozens of lifeless planets with all kinds of atmospheres and conditions, constantly wondering if I was going to come across an alien lifeform, than get paradise planets all over the place. That way when I finally DO come across a tropical wonderland it'll be like a major "oh shit" celebration moment.

Go back a bunch of pages here and on the spoiler page. One of the bigger ones was the argument of
center of the galaxy vs center the universe, and if the latter even existed
. We didn't have confirmation at all, but some dudes were swearing up and down that it was already confirmed.

Nope. I think a lot of people just haven't considered the limitations of procedural generation and a 14 person team.

Well, that too. But it leads into people claiming a lot more is in the game than physically possible.

Well this game is different, it's arguably vague in its premise and what you actually do, quest wise etc to get there. Although Sean has been transparent so far the way he explains things left lots of room for us to fill in the blanks.

I hope this is going to be a stripped down Elite Dangerous. I bought that game because I just wanted to jump in a ship and explore space but I found it really confusing and complicated. I know we can explore space and different planets so that's great but I just hope that it's not a huge grind to collect resources/currency to get better ships and maintain them.

I don't think Hello Games have mislead anybody, at least on what I've seen and heard so far. I hope there isn't a nasty backlash but then they got death threats for delaying the game a couple of months, so reasonable thinking is clearly out the window on this game.

Can anyone pm me that stream?

Maybe we need two OTs on GAF, one for people enjoying the game for what it is, and the other for people complaining about what it isn't and never was.

Does it really? I mean, like what? Everyone who's paid any attention at all to the game knows exactly what they're in for, and that's exactly what Sean promised over the years.

Strikes me the only people kicking up a fuss either want Multiplayer (and can't grasp that it's simply not a MP game), and/or simply can't grasp that it's not a shooter or on rails experience.

It's not a hard game to understand. It doesn't hold your hand, you make your own fun, you spend the vast majority of the game looking at things, and when you're ready you make your way to the centre. It's not rocket science, and those mechanics have been plain as day for a couple of years now.

Is it really like that? Or is it more about overhyping the centre of the galaxy, talking about only scratching the surface and many surprises not shown yet?

I mean even one of the last tweets from him is overselling the game so much:

https://twitter.com/nomanssky/status/759111898675679232

We’ve spent years filling No Man’s Sky with surprises. You've spent years waiting. Please don't spoil it for yourself :(

People will expect tons of surprises.

I don't understand why he does this. It's setting up a expectation level that can never be meet.
