Your game was "dispatched"?
The planet looked "balmy"?
Celsius?

Look guys it's cute you all made up an alien language to talk about the game, but it's gonna make it hard for the rest of us to follow along

Watching a guy who's been streaming for the past 12 hours, maybe more, as he landed on a planet and his ship got stuck into the terrain. He's got no grenades and the plasma thing doesn't change the terrain conformation, so he's basically stranded on a planet with no ship.

He can walk to a ship. It's only 5 hours away :-|

Mine has been dispatched from Simply Games and they're showing in stock for delivery tomorrow.

Stupid football season starting tomorrow, gonna be a very long day.

Celsius & Fahrenheit are both inferior to Kelvin which does away with minus numbers and actually starts at zero to represent absolute zero, the coldest it can get - cold enough that hydrogen & helium become fluids and really weird stuff called Bose-Einstein condensates form, and can flow upwards against the force of gravity.

I'm not saying it's impossible. Sure MMO's exist, but do you think they have implemented something so time consuming and complex to develop for a feature that, in their words, it is so improbable to be so close to being impossible? I don't want to nitpick, and I want the game to succeed but I can only image the backlash if this is not in the game at all, and they talked about as if it was a real possibility. It doesn't help that journos don't know how a network or a computer processor actually work and spread news based on their confused ideas about how the game it is supposed to work.

From what I can tell, they're going hard with the 'Journey' route.

- You, as a player, will have your own (hopefully meaningful) adventure. There's a high chance it will be 100% solo, singleplayer, just you
- If there's ever a time when another player is in your vicinity, the game might instance you together (and just like in Journey, you won't always get matchmade with the person, even if they are in the same level/area as you)
- if they are instanced with you, the game won't tell you, so realising that the figure wandering about over there mining stuff or getting in fights is actually a person will be a meaningful, powerful moment and hopefully something you'll always remember - especially when you go up to them and start jumping up and down or something to say 'Hey, I'm a person!'

Sean has described it like this, basically. I see what you mean about it being 'waffley' and imprecise, but I think that's the point. They want it to be mysterious/unusual, a bit enigmatic.

Never enjoyed music for the sake of music. Hell, most of it annoys me. I always mute SNL during the musical performances for example.

My life got a little sadder reading this post.

Akin to saying 'Never enjoyed reading text for the sake of reading. Hell, most books annoy me. I always skim over novels or text in comics/games for example.'

To each their own, ofc, but IMO, you just haven't found the right music yet. Just like how if you give a non-reader a book which particularly fits their tastes/attentions, they will enjoy it. There are billions of hours of music out there from every style/genre you can imagine; the chances of some of it, at least, being to your liking, is 100%.

The instant you guys started saying this I ordered from SimplyGames with Guaranteed Saturday Delivery.

Fucking better get the game tomorrow! I'll be in all day.

Simply Games have always come through for me in the past, soooo hopefully I'll be giving y'all some impressions this weekend!

Oh, the US LE includes the ship as well.

Also, Fahrenheit makes more sense.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrenheit

Yeah, my U.S. limited edition includes a ship, (though I believe all preorders get this ship anyway) along with some trader charisma stuff, a blueprint for a boltcaster, and a photonix core ship boost. Not too exciting, really, but I'd rather suffer a bit at the start I think.

I think only pre-orders from Gamestop give the 10,000 credits, along with a different ship than all the other retailers/PSN.

Just gonna leave this here:

This all the way. That said, let's not derail the thread.

Still waiting for my Gamestop copy to ship. Damn, if they shipped today I could receive it even on monday, but everything is pointing to a monday dispatch. Damn.

I'm considering using celsius even though I'm American because, c'mon, when deep space travel becomes possible it'll be the system used. Immersion-wise it makes sense.

However, I'm used to fahrenheit, having used it all my life, so I feel like seeing temps expressed on that scale will be more meaningful when exploring extreme environments.

My copy from GAME was shipped today. It is very possible it'll turn up tomorrow, but most likely Monday - that's the hope anyway so I can get a bit of playtime in before I go on holiday on Tuesday!

Why does Fahrenheit make more sense?

It's more precise when not using decimals. The difference between 68 and 71 Fahrenheit is 1 number difference in Celsius, 20 and 21 degrees respectively. You have to start saying the Celsius values in decimals to become more precise.

−273.15°: absolute freezing point
below 0° celsius: shit be freezing
above 0° celsius: shit be not freezing
between 15° to 35° celsius: time to wear a shirt and shorts
above 35° celsius: damn son shit be hot
above 100° : shit (water) be boiling

I'll make a new system that starts from 119 (water freezing temp) and goes up to 3832 (water boiling point at 1 bar).

It's more precise while retaining fahrenheit's nonsensical scaling.

I'm still pretty sure that orders from GAME are typically held by the local sorting office until release day. You probably won't get it until Tuesday.

There's always a time where that level of precision becomes unnecessary, or that level of precision isn't enough. Precision like that is relative.

In this context, that level of precision isn't necessary. It's like in review scoring scales out of 100 - what's the difference between 67/100 ad 68/100? It becomes arbitrary.

But we dont deal with liquid helium or hydrogen on a daily basis so it doesnt make sense to use Kelvin. I do agree Kelvin is cool though. Kelvin should stick to science labs and outer space.

Haha, I'm not saying I don't understand celsius, just that a lifetime of using fahrenheit day to day makes me wonder if it will be more impactful to use it.

But I'm a big sci-fi fan so I'll probably use celsius anyway.

You're correct, but I guess it would break the immersion even more. Immagine a "extreme cold" alert while the number visualised read "173°K"... numbers are much more significant than a single letter.

Kelvin is the only true deep-space-travel temperature scale. It's the only one which starts at absolute zero - the true no-temperature of deep space.

That's true.

For NMS's purposes, we need temperature relevant and relative to a living body - in which case Celsius is the most relevant scale.

I'm literally incapable of enjoying music by itself. Its a genetic thing. My brain does not make dopamine when listening to music without a corresponding visual stimuli or memory of such visual stimuli. My father is exactly the same way, as is his father.
Why does Fahrenheit make more sense?
0 degrees is the stable temperature of brine. 100 degrees is approximately the temperature of the human body.
