No Man's Sky gets released like, soon, I guess ¯\_()_/¯

Day 1 patches makes me sad that prepatching physical games still doesn't exist yet. I thought this would be the gen to do it. I still mainly buy physical copies of games (and have the limited edition of No Man's Sky preordered) because I don't have the greatest internet. Anything over a couple GB's takes me over an hour to download. I hope the patch for No Man's Sky isn't too large.

Yeah. I'd like this. Only for the fact that disc installs are so quick. With space being a factor, I could see myself deleting a disk based game after each play session if patches could be pre-downloaded (and remain separate from the game if you delete the game). Take GTA V for instance. The disk install is lightning fast. The patch download/install takes quite a while. I wish it were possible to have an option where you can keep the most recent patches installed even if the game it belongs to is deleted.

I'm braving this thread again for a minute to ask who the stores are that shipped out copies of the LE early? I guess it doesn't really matter if there's a day-1 patch, but it would be nice to not have the slight anxiousness about the Amazon LE arriving on time.

Fantastic news that they're wiping the server. The way Sean originally talked about this, it sounded like a post-launch update, but it's pretty clear now that they just didn't get everything done in time for launch and that at least part of this is just trying to get it in proper order for day 1. At least we know it probably won't be that big of an update.

Yea reading Seans posts about the patch. I was wondering if it was a case of well we have to ship now and can day one patch the rest.

That or I was wondering of they held off because so many pre release sales nowadays.

PC version news

3 day to improve it?

Sony and Hello Games are making it sound like the Day 1 patch will be one tremendous monster in terms of fixes and added content. Wiping content before the initial launch. Ouch. That must sting for some early adaptors who have already spend dozens of hours into it.

Ehh not really. The internet sure is though.

The reset makes me less excited about my copy potentially arriving early now...

I get why it's being done, but it does make me less tempted to jump right in.

Arghhhhbbb

Might have missed it, but is there still a review embargo? Or is it likely that, due to the fact a number of outlets have purchased a copy early, we could see some early reviews (obviously without the day one patch)?

I meant if someone could estimate the specs by seeing what you can do in the game and the performance of the PS4's version. If these specs are plausible in any way.

My estimatied guess is that an i7 6700k, GTX980ti and 32GB DDR4 RAM can run it very well.

On the topic of the 12th release, I kind of like it because I
1) don't miss out on playing this day 1 and
2) don't have to force any vacation days
I guess it's a win situation for me although I can see why some of you might be pissed.
This was to be expected though with all the rumbling about a potential global august 12th release for PC. It's not like something like that has never happened before.

Why wouldnt you want the day1 patched version to be reviewed. The patch is free and day1, that seems like an odd request.

Times like this it really makes the physical disc pointless especially if its a big Day 1 patch.

At a glance it does seem unusually modest but when you consider that they're aiming for 60fps on PS4, and appear to have achieved that, then a very low minimum requirement for PC makes sense.

As "useless" as last generation, but for some odd reason patches and games are so oversized this generation. Even the old DOS arcade version of Pacman is almost 1 GB.

And it is surely made possible thanks to good optimization.
I heard DOOM, thanks to a good optimization, is working pretty well even on modest PCs, this is surely the case for NMS aswell.
Thanks for the answer btw.

They're not wiping your character. That shit should be a local save. They're wiping their servers of discoveries uploaded.

Does anyone else think some reviewers will try and get the jump on others and get their reviews out based on the pre-patched/updated version just so they can get those all important clicks 1st?

They would be well within their right to as the disc should be the reviewable game. Someone without internet is going to play this version of the game.

Does not sound like it if you read the statement.

"Their save progress will not carry over" sounds to me more like the save will be incompatible. I don't think they are capable of reaching into your PS4 to delete your save file info with a patch. Your character is not stored server side. But they can certainly make it unusable with a patch.

It is still effectively the same thing. Your save file will not work after the patch. Don't get stuck on the technicalities.

I was just checking the mail, because I might be getting it today. However, with the news of the patch, I guess I shouldn't play even if I get it :(

Ordered at 3pm yesterday at simplygames, turned up 5 mins ago. Let's see what the fuss is about, can mess around and not give a fuck since my save will be wiped soon anyway lol

I don't mind if its a small patch and the game is still playable off the disc.

But because the PS4 forces devs to install onto the hard drive and that pretty much everyone has their console connected to the internet, it seems that devs just put out a coaster and that some games will not work without an update.

At this point, I'd rather they just put a code in the disc box (and make the box small like vita games).

What are people's thoughts on the patch? Still worth to play it? To get what the feel, then start anew when the patch comes out?
