For those who preordered digital on US PSN directly, I just went to check if I can download yet. The answer to that is no but now I have 1 add on. The Alpha Vector Ship! I thought we only got avatars but It looks like we should at least get the ship too.

Can't wait til Monday night!

I know their reasons but games go out early all the time it's not the customers fault, I also get that this is a game breaking patch. Still feels like legitimate customers are getting penalized though.
Are their EULAs valid prior to the release date? It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't or if there was a general clause in there to provide Hello Games with complete discretion in how they run their servers.

Played it for an hour. Crashed big time when I was about to complete one of my first objectives. Couldn't even reset my PS4, it crashed it big time.

Beyond that, I definitely liked what I played of it so far. Gonna hold off until the patch comes on and the wipe has taken place, but definitely something there. Can't wait to give it a full whack.

So I've not really been following this. Is the game living up to its hype or is it a bit of a disappointment? Different from what people were expecting?

Game isn't released 1.0 yet.

In a spiteful and personal way, I'm very excited about the reset. And the fact we may be able to dl game and patch on Monday for steam.

I'm super surprised still that we haven't seen anything for PC yet though.

With a digital pre-order.. will the patch download alongside the pre-load or will it turn midnight on the 10th, let me start the game and then download the patch? Never pre-ordered digitally before.

It is released.
It's not released till release day. No matter if you have a copy in hand or how much you paid for it.

This is a game with a persistent online world. To expect anything less is obtuse really. They have to have a starting point for the persistent world and that should naturally be on release day.

Your argument is really reaching here.

For me, yes. But I've always expected the game to be what they've always shown, and never got ridiculous with my expectations. I can just coast through space and explore planets for hours.

Rewatching some space movies right now and man, 2001 is so good. I found it to boring the first time I watched it as a young adult, but now? I think it's one of the most atmospheric movies ever made, and it's really quite a looker, even after all this time.

Finished watching The Martian last week (woo, Ridley Scott is back baby) and I plan on watching Interstellar fir the first time tomorrow.

Add Prometheus, Moon, Sunshine and Europa Report to that fine group.

When the game isn't out to the general public abso-fucking-lutely.

Not my fault some rich dude went out and bought a $1500 copy early or some stores are cheating other people releasing it early the game isn't meant to be out yet.

Pretty much this. It's silly that people are trying so hard to get a game before launch date. gimme a break. it's gotten out of hand

then you have people all shocked that there's bugs and other problems and sometimes outright missing some content.
Well why not wait till it is fully out to pass judgement and allow for the game to actually be out to the masses.
Even more so with a game as large as this one since some people are swearing on their parents graves that theres stuff missing.... when THERES 18QUINTILLION FRIGGEN PLANETS!!!

Is the game released? No. Are they releasing the game before the release date? Yes. I think customers shouldn't have to check if the game is out when they get it in the mail, and cases where people have been banned for playing the game before it's out is stupid, but if you play the game before it comes out, you are in no way entitled to not lose progress in a case like this. It's not your fault for playing the game before it's out, but it's also not your right to play the game that early.

I really hope the update includes a way to quickly add fuel to you ship, isotopes to your suit/tool and what not. Always having to go to the inventory gets a little annoying.

How hard is it for Gaffers who have the game to confirm if it's 60fps? I thought everyone on here was a frame rate snob.
So I got my copy this morning. No crashes or major bugs yet. My opening planet was pretty nice! I'm really enjoying it thus far, but I can see it's not for everyone. Especially the inventory management stuff. I don't have any professional equipment but I don't think it's 60fps. Smooth though. No frame rate hitches. Noticeable pop in, due to the procedural generation. Nothing that really troubles me though.
Guess we'll know when Digital Foundry gets their hands on it

Oh come on! People are randomly getting this in the post, none of this is the customers fault. I know day 1 patches happen but it shouldn't effect customers.

Just for clarification I still love the game.
Even non day 1 patches have the chance of effecting customers. It's just part of software. When they started working on the patch, it probably didn't even enter their mind that they'd have to deal with people who got the game early not getting the day 1 patch. They probably were like 'we can totally get a patch in before release, thus we don't have to worry about fucking with people's game saves"

No one is saying it's the customer's fault, unless they deliberately sought out a prerelease copy.

They have stated several times the game is playable offline it really shouldn't wipe your progress as soon as you get an internet connection.

Maybe I should make a thread for this, feels like I might start derailing this one otherwise.

You should, but you're probably the only one in here who has an issue with this.

Just to clarify, it is not the consumers error that they get the game, but it's not their right to play. It is not released just because shops send them out too soon.

You probably have to have the software updated to update the Atlas.

Also, if you named something on your galaxy and someone else named it before you in the Altas, you probably can't name it.

It will be about who makes their update to the Atlas first.

I am curious to see if vulgar names will be block or deleted.

Yeah. I'd like this. Only for the fact that disc installs are so quick. With space being a factor, I could see myself deleting a disk based game after each play session if patches could be pre-downloaded (and remain separate from the game if you delete the game). Take GTA V for instance. The disk install is lightning fast. The patch download/install takes quite a while. I wish it were possible to have an option where you can keep the most recent patches installed even if the game it belongs to is deleted.

The problem with this is that sometimes patches aren't just applying general fixes and adding to the game size but at times outright replace the files part of the game install that are the source of the issue. This is generally why patches are merged into the game install is because they aren't independent of it but are merging and outright replacing old files with the same name with entirely new ones which is more or less overriding your game install data.

What you propose would actually take up even more space because you would have to reserve separate space for the install data and the update data, and having duplicates of existing files would just be redundant.

A better solution is called a Delta patching method in which the patch itself only downloads the necessary files that need to apply their fixes and not completely downloading mass GBs of files which may not be even necessary to obtain.

I don't think anyone includes files that aren't updated in their updates. Are you thinking of diff-updates? That way you can update parts of files that have changed, and not the entire file.

I'm dying to get my hands on this game and I've been a NMS lurker fan for a good while now and the hype is just throught the fucking roof at this point. Just a few more days.

Seen all three of those except Europa, which I'll get to thanks to you guys.

Moon has to be one of the most depressing films I've ever seen. Sam pulled that entire picture so well.

Where exactly are you seeing this add-on? When I go to the store page all I see is a countdown timer to release and a description of the game. I do have the avatars though.

Edit: I found it, you have to go to "Library" and check under "Related items" under No Man's Sky.
