Booted up NMS on PS4 (Pro) for the first time, downloaded the 1.13 patch released today, and met with two crashes within an hour of gameplay. The first one was like within 5 minutes when I was still getting accustomed to the controls. Great showing, Hello Games. 😐

I have been getting many crashes since the big Foundation update unfortunately. Mainly annoying in Survival mode when sometimes I may have to go a bit before saving.

You only get 50% of the materials back on base components when transferring bases. I'm not sure about plants. Personally I think it discourages people from moving, but I guess that's what the freighter is for.

Figured that bit out on my own; fortunately I had a previous save. I loaded up my freighter, my ship, my storage containers, myself.... Just barely had enough room for everything. But I got the base transferred to a new planet. One container glitched out and was empty when I rebuilt but it was just some platinum and heridium, and that's not too hard to replace.

I've rebuilt my farm from the ground up. It's a work in progress, but at this point the foundation is laid. Cuboid room, 7 wide by 7 long by 6 high, 3 stories staggered so the top floor hangs out over the middle and bottom. It'll hold round about 150-200 plants depending on how tight I want to pack them. The bottom floor, while the biggest, is also laid out to enable easy movement, so it only has 46 stations (5 8-packs and a 6-pack near the door to make it easier to enter). The whole cube (7x7x6) is going to be covered in windows, so I've put my Mordite operation on hold to devote everything to growing Coryzagen; my math tells me I'll need 5010 total for the glass just for the "greenhouse," let alone the rest of the facility. I also figured out how to connect my containers to a room so I no longer have to stand outside to do inventory management. All I need is a landing pad and I'm basically set (and lots and lots of iron, zinc and thamium, of course, but my new planet has ideal weather, so I don't mind going on a wander).

Creative mode is great for testing out ideas before attempting to implement them in your actual playthrough.

You get 100% resources for disassembling and storing manually?

I may be about to move. When I hit 25m credits I'm going to scrap all my mordite plants to have at least 1k resources of everything that's growable.

*VVV Thank you.

Yes, 100% resources for disassembling manually. I figure they put that in so you don't get screwed if you want to move something from one part of your base to another. Although I had to dismantle a bunch of tech in my own exosuit to dismantle the galactic trade terminal since it uses so many resources and it won't auto-transfer them to free slots in your ship.

I really like the addition of the new music at the main menu. Last time it was a little synth groove, and after installing 1.13 tonight it played a spare little piano piece, almost like chamber music. It then seamlessly transitioned into more atmospheric stuff once the game loaded. The generative soundtrack tech in this game is brilliant.

Also, after a staff member says they have nothing more to teach, do we have to hire someone with a higher rank, or is that just it?

edit: frustrating that they still haven't fixed the base teleporter station names in 1.13, nor have they fixed the Albumen Pearl quest.

After and lengthy play session tonight...I wish the exosuit inventory was broken down into two sections. One for inventory and one for upgrades. I'd be ok with having to buy slots to upgrade them or whatever. I just hate that things like the hazmat gauntlets need to take up a slot, etc. Part of it is I'm a massive hoarder though. And there's another part of me, that as pointless as some of them are at times, I'd love to equip every suit upgrade.

Also, why do the Atlas passes not stack in that v3 opens everything? You don't need a v2 in your inventory to open them if you have a v3. So why doesn't a v3 open v1 stuff. Yeah, I know, for the most part, v2/v3 stuff is pointless. But to me, it's just another little inventory niggle.

I need to stop being a hoarder. :)

That ladder bug where many ladders in a base changes to end up in the ceiling and not the level above is annoying. Happens after you restart the game. Half my ladders must be deleted and rebuilt every time.

Hello games have managed to turn us dedicated players from space explorers into farmers. Every lush planet I land on I feel like settling down even though I am still on the atlas path.

To the fellow in the previous page who broke the economy, just how big can you make your Base?

Once they say that you're done with that particular mission chain.

What's wrong with the Albumen Pearl quest? I've done them all, had no issues.

Does the landing pad have a purpose other than appearance?

Will you get visitors to your base?

It's frustrating when I teleport back to my base to find that my ship isn't on the landing pad. The reason I built one was to save on plutonium when launching.

Your ship should deffo be on the launch pad when you teleport.

I think you can get visitors, tho. Might need a certain npc? Not too sure

The only NPC whose quests I've yet to finish is the farmer.

IDK, just frustrated I spent the time harvesting resources for a launch pad only for it to be useful if I manually land on it while already in my star system.

You get visitors if the pad is free. If not, they'll circle your base until it becomes free.

I bought one of the ships that landed there with my Lubricant money. It was specced for Photon Cannon instead of Phase Beam combat like my old ship. Then I added the rapid fire mod you get from the weapons terminal in the base. Each shot does four times the damage of my old ship and it shoots three to four times as fast. Pirate ships just vanish.

It actually comes down to less slots, despite having more total, and I need to reinstall the Warp Reactors, but... this ship is a keeper for now. Next item on my wishlist is a freighter.

So is it a design choice that my ship isn't on the launch pad when I teleport back to base so NPC ships can land there?

Will building a 2nd one start spawning my ship on one of them?

I'm on PC, so I can edit the config files to remove base-building limitations. You still can't build outside the circle that defines your base's parameters, but there's no height limit, so theoretically you can build right on up into space. Realistically, there's not much point in doing that since it requires a ton of resources and provides no gain, but it's possible.

Before I moved bases and had 60+ mordite plants going, I hadn't actually disabled base limits, so that's all doable by anyone. You just have to keep things pretty simple; low-ceiling cuboid warehouse room with a bunch of farming stations and not much else. No ornamentation, no glass, no specialist terminals after you complete each of their sections; very austere. It's a touch underwhelming, but it makes good money.

Nope. The only time my ship spawned on the pad was after I sold it, for some reason.

What does Aluminium look like now? It used to be pillars like everything else, but I've been looking on two planets, both saying they should have it, from the air and I can't find a single cube of Aluminium anywhere. So... what does it look like from the air?

I've only found Aluminum underground since the update.

Picked up one of those star destroyer sized freighters for a mere 7.2M! I guess appearance isn't linked to cost at all.

Aluminum, Emeril, and the new Viridium all occur in depressions in the ground. Sometimes they will be in a single depression or hole, sometimes in a "tube" with two depressions that are connected underground. Either way, you have to look for the telltale signs of them by looking for round holes in the ground. Emeril and Viridium are super easy to spot with their bright greenish / yellowish color, but Aluminum can be easier to miss, depending on the colors/terrain/weather of a planet.

Actually like them more this way, and wish most of the elements propagated this way. Feels more like natural occurring elements, and less like ingots dropped into place so they're easy to find.

Looks like they changed the amount of resources you get when mining certain elements.

Was farming some heridium last night and got a stack of 500 super quick.

The Pearl quest won't show the ruins on the map. So I can't complete it. I've asked the farmer four times now. I know someone had a workaround with putting the farmer on the freighter, but I don't have enough money for a freighter. That's the whole reason I want to farm. 😬

Have you tried replacing him with another farmer? Find another Gek and ask them to be your farmer. Maybe that'll start that particular quest again?

It's worth a try, thanks for the idea!

Is there a link to photos of new planet variety?

Hello has a Facebook album of Foundation player photos. I don't think they focus on the variety, but they look nice. I think the Foundation planet generation is notable because of what you don't notice -- that it looks natural and unique instead of generated by computer. The subtleties of the geographic features are what gets me. The interesting features it forms are making me more likely now to just walk over that next hill to see what's there.

I've consistently gotten more aluminum from spiky-shaped asteroids than planetside.

Wait, I saw someone talk about NPC ranks. Does replacing (upgrading?) the hirable NPCs have any benefit?

I'm always wary of the placebo affect but have the graphics improved again? I swear there's another layer of density and detail been added.

One thing I dislike

Is that when I scan a planet, it'll find outpost, but on a planet I'm not even looking at? Like right now I'm looking at this planet in front of me, and it decides to find buildings on the planet behind it?

Yeah, it just needs a little refinement here and there. I find it distracting that any icons for 'directions' is central because I sometimes think it's my aiming reticule. I know from watching lots of let's plays that I'm not the only one who finds it problematic.

With just a little tweak space battles could be more exciting. If they made that 'reverse' much stronger then manoeuvring becomes fun. Imagine being able to back away at almost equal speed to you pursuer while shooting at them. It would be like Super Stardust in 3D space.

Imagine if they added blue-prints for weapon upgrades and increased the number of enemies in space, enemies you must defeat in order to get the materials to build those weapons. That would give you another reason to upgrade your ship and if they added what I suggested above, it would be a great new gaming loop.

1.5 GB... perhaps some new assets in there. Maybe Pro support incoming?

  • You can now place the hanging light ring decoration on ceilings and floors. (I could never get this decoration to work anywhere)
  • So far I haven’t been able to get the bug that causes items like your jetpack or shielding to be sent to your spaceship inventory, requiring a restart to fix. However, this was always inconsistent.
  • You can no longer hear the madness inducing sounds of plants growing over intergalactic distances. (Except Rhubarb, you can still hear Rhubarb)

Some fixes posted on Reddit.

Signal booster needs a call ship option. Why explore a surface when I'm tethered by the growing duration for the return trek. Heck, make a separate crafting item if more resources should be needed to call a ship.

Still feel punished for exploring planets.

So I was on a low atmosphere planet tonight and I think I discovered that launch thrusters take less fuel on those planets. I had 25% fuel left and it only went down to 16% when I lifted off. Maybe a bug, but the next time y'all are on a low atmosphere planet, see if you get the same reduction.

I don't think that will ever happen. Sean said that during testing (pre-launch) they had a call ship option, and the testers basically just jumped from spot to spot and it removed all challenge and sense of exploration. So they took it out.

The compromise will probably be the maybe-forthcoming dune buggy.

I'd honestly just like t have a better in-atmosphere scanner on my ship. Minerals and undiscovered animals would be great to get markers for when skimming the planet.

I would especially like to see something to make it a bit less tedious to find the last species on a planet when going for 100%.

And you can virtually save anywhere now by building a save point, saving, then removing the save point to reclaim the resources used to build it. At least this works in normal mode. So there's that.

I would certainly not expect your ship's scanners to identify individual undiscovered animal species from space but it would be nice if your ship's scanner could at least help find the locale for species that haven't been discovered yet. Presumably your ship could detect microbiomes on a planet's surface where the chance exists of a much rarer animal species showing up (or that's how it could be explained in-game).

They could of course have a whole slew of scanner upgrades (even for your exosuit) to help with mineral, plant, and animal discovery. I know there's like one or two multitool scanner upgrades but there is more they could do. Heck, I think there's a research tab for ship scanner upgrades that doesn't have anything (and I don't think I'm just missing blueprints for them either).

PATCH 1.13

Hello! We’ve released another patch across both PC and PS4 which is available to download on both platforms now! Read on for full patch notes:
  • Fixed a bug that would make the player character small.
  • Space battles will now vary in size more and players should see bigger battles.
  • Fixed the instantaneous death loop that could occur in survival mode if you saved with 1 health and no hazard protection. You will still be on the verge of death when you load in, but it won’t happen instantaneously.
  • [PC] Fix for steam controller not being able to warp.
  • [PC] Removed up, down, left, right as quick menu navigation keys to allow left handed players to move while using the quick menu.
  • [PC] Page Up and Page down can now be used to navigate up and down in the quick menu.
  • Removed duplicated planets from discoveries menu.
  • Fixed an issue with redeeming promo ships in survival, which would result in the ship being spawned above the ground.
  • Fix for missing ruins underwater which could cause missions to point to nothing.

    Various audio tweaks and fixes:
  • Added ladder climbing sounds.
  • Fixed base building prop sounds not playing when placed inside a Freighter.
  • Added sound effect for calling Freighters.

Those portals are a huge addition and clearly something they'll build on. I have a feeling that this will be updated to include access to more than our own bases. Think about that. And when you and your 3 friends are on that planet together, the wildlife becomes more aggressive.

Hm, so I have a base that gets me 1.5 million units when I visit it. I have a shiny new freighter that looks like a Star Destroyer and an X-Wing looking starship with a rapidfire cannon that can take out a pirate attack faster than you can say "Hostile Ships Detected", literally.

I guess that's kind of it for this update. All I want is the final warp reactor and then go poke stuff. Finding 1000 Gold and Emeril is proving difficult, though.

No, there's no NPC ranks. You must've read my question about what happens after the base staff have no more quests to give. I was just asking if higher ranks was something that existed.

p.s. I still think it was a silly idea to make your staff work for free. I get that it was easier than implementing a salary feature, but they do all this work to create lore and worldbuilding, and then they implement things like that in a lazy way that don't make sense. Or like the fact that no one actually sits in the seats at outposts, but just spawn with space station chairs. These kinds of things work against suspension of disbelief. I get the feeling Hello wanted to make Foundation as stuffed with things as possible, so they implemented some ideas using whatever method took the least amount of time.

The audio-animatronic NPC's make me feel like I'm at a Disneyland attraction.
