No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Well assuming their engine properly adjusts to different speed CPUs, it shouldn't really be an issue.

And I say variables making the assumption there might actually be some way to tweak them (either in a game file or modified through memory). If they are tweakable, I could see a scenario where someone forces the game to render a higher LOD sooner (IE farther away), putting a huge strain on a very powerful CPU and filling a large amount of memory, but making LOD transitions less noticeable. But you could be right, we might just be stuck with whatever the engine spits out.

@Landford: almost certainly the PC version. That was fairly early in the project, very unlikely that they had the PS4 version running that well (or even at all).

How far can you push back the draw distance on Minecraft? That does a similar thing, although with simpler environments.

The damage control from Hello Games / Sony is incredible. They've spent the entire lead up from announcement to release being as vague as possible about what their game is all about. After years of teasing some lucky few get their hands on an early copy, they start streaming and we finally get to see what No Mans Sky is without the guiding hand of careful PR. At the final hour it turns out that what we are seeing is supremely inferior to the mythical "day one patch" version of the game that is apparently so important that it's not even worth reviewing.

That may be the case Hello Games but now that we've seen the game warts and all, how about giving us an indication of what's in this mythical patch that makes it so much superior to the disc version?

That's obviously too much to ask from this company who have been cagey since day one. I'm sure they'll be able to milk a few more pre-orders between now and when we see their TRUE vision.

I have seen more pre-release footage of No Man's Sky than most other games.

There was half an hour on Giant Bomb, 20+ minutes on IGN and assuming more in other places.

They released four different trailers last week showing exactly what the main pillars of the gameplay are.

Almost every game that is released has a day one patch. Often review copies are delayed until this goes live. Given the nature of the game, with it's online components, it seems perfectly fair to expect outlets to review the game that will be a level playing field with the rest of us who buy it.

It's been clear for months this is a survival/exploration game at its core within an ambitious framework. Anyone expecting anything more hasn't been paying attention.

I died within half an hour, got shot up by some sentinel drone that was called in because i kept killing the little monitor thingies. It's pretty good, I hope there is a waypoint system because traversal looks like it could become very tedious after many hours of exploration.

When we saw the demoes and the IGN First stuff, many people thought Sentinels "aggro mode" was to easy to trigger; from what I've seen during streams, they basically only react if you shoot at locked doors, assault them or start to mass murder animals.
May I ask your opinion about it, and if you would revert back to more aggressive Sentinels?

They attacked me after i mined a rare ore node, and after killing a few of them a sentinel was called in.

Tank ship

So is it any good?

Im enjoying it, definitely has drawbacks though. I played for about 3 hours and all I want to do is play more, it's strangely alluring.

A LOT of people will diss the game, you definitely need to know what you are buying into with it.

Have we heard from any later streamers about how the space combat feels?
Was it just because of the first leakers ship that it was apparently so "clunky"?

What I have seen it is clunky and boring. It looks like you are spinning around while stationary and leading your shots to spot that game tells you to aim at, while enemy ships zip around you with high speeds and agility.

Easily worst part of the game that I have seen.

You get those instant phaser weapons that can't miss and auto lock on and shoot the enemy ship about 3-4 times with them. It then explodes into blue canisters.

The space combat just like the ground combat, is barebones.

So I got my copy this morning. No crashes or major bugs yet. My opening planet was pretty nice! I'm really enjoying it thus far, but I can see it's not for everyone. Especially the inventory management stuff. I don't have any professional equipment but I don't think it's 60fps. Smooth though. No frame rate hitches. Noticeable pop in, due to the procedural generation. Nothing that really troubles me though.

My pre-order has now shipped. I am looking forward to sinking many hours in this game. I have watched a few streams and read trough most of the comments in the thread. The only thing I don't get is people defending the game like they are part of the team of developers and Sean is their best friend.

Do people feel so strongly about a game that they feel like they are making a difference? From what I have read, and I may be wrong, the game's already gone gold so they sure don't need help. I never cared about a game that much in my life.

So it's not 60fps???

anyone know any live streams that arnt getting banned
just watched 4 go down

I think Sony is really coming down hard after all the tweets and their official statement to early players / reviewers.

Really curious what this patch is all about and how it influences the game.

true aye peeps jumping from twitch to stream.me to hitbox even bigtiggles got targeted :)

My copy turned up this lunchtime. I've put about two hours in this afternoon and really enjoyed it, I followed the story for a bit and then went off to see what I could discover on a planet.

To anyone who already has a copy
and has reached the 2nd planet any ideas on how to get the dynamic resonator for the hyperdrive?

Sean started backtracking after receiving a bunch of tweets that the game had lots of bugs and looked bad. I've been reading tweets the last couple of days, and there's a huge amount of disappointment players. He went from "please don't spoil the game" to "we're wiping everything. Wait for our magical patch, because the disc version is flawed".

I've never seen a game do this to people bruh. Like I don't understand. The people that believe it's the next coming of Jesus, than people putting on their tinfoil hats because the devs want people to enjoy their unofficially released game with a damn patch, clearly they're aware of something, clearly the patch fixes something
But let's all sit around on the internet and come u p with theories about how they're Bullshiting or hiding something instead of..o idk waiting for the game to come out. Damn
/Rant

This is a bit unfair. People on the Internet are always going to complain about the game and Hello Games was always going to announce a day one patch. You're really pushing a narrative with it, are you a journalist?

Very nice angle.

I guess the most annoying part is that people will be spending 20-30 hours on the game this weekend, not knowing their progress will be wiped. When you release a physical version on a Monday, a huge amount of people will receive their copy 2-3 days before. I think that's awful treatment of their player base.

Eh? I haven't seen a huge amount of players yet, let alone disappointed ones. I guess I've only seen people who are playing it sound very excited! Like all the gaffers who have it and all but one streamer seemed to really enjoy it, and can't forget the reddditors.

What tweets have you been reading? This is a weird post to me, I've been balls deep in this game for a week and I haven't seen what this is describing, what have I missed?

A larger amount of people won't receive it until the 9th. This decision is totally fair to them. The fault lies with those who sold it early. The players should probably read their EULA.

He replied to some, so he took notice.

I think they're here to get a rise out of someone.

Edit - they just linked a tweet that stated 18 quintillion planets isn't enough content.
