No Man's Sky - The Swarm Trailer

A new danger has appeared in the No Man's Sky universe. Something terrible hangs in the sky: a huge, foreboding Hive-like ship, unlike anything we've seen before. It has nigh-on impenetrable defences, not least a swarm of smaller and nimbler battle drones which must be neutralised to get close enough to target its primary weapon systems, notably the biggest laser cannon our universe has ever witnessed.

It will take a combined community effort to take it down, but the Traveller soul is fragmented into three; all three groups are competing for glory, but will also need to co-operate and strategise to take down this existential threat to the universe.

Epic and chaotic space battles await for the bravest and nimblest space pilots who dare to take on this faceless but formidable technological terror which has mysteriously appeared. Fully decked out S-Class ships assemble!

I want to get into this game so bad. It looks so cool. I hear nothing but positivity from those that play it... But I just can't get past the first few hours. I'll have to give this another go.

Every time the game gets updated I reinstall it thinking it will be different. Half an hour of shooting rocks later > uninstall and swear it's the last time.

Im the same way.. Its first few hours does such a poor job of making you want to play the game. Like with all the expansions and such you'd think they'd look back and consider making an actually interest first chapter that would engage a new user and give some sort of push. But so far I havnnt seen that

Fuck off with your FOMO shit, I'll be on Destiny 2 sorry.

That's the last 6 years of Steamchart performance...

It looks like the floor is raising slowly but the updates aren't doing much outside of getting people to play it for a few hours every few months.

It's a pretty great VR game. Just wish I could tolerate VR for more than 30-40 minutes at a time so I could put some serious time into it before I inevitably move on to something I can play for long stretches.

Steam Frame, you're my only hope!

The expedition rewards look cool. I'm back in.

I'm starting a new playthrough in a mostly survival but custom difficulty (I like challenge, not so much tedious grind and inventory management).

This game is all about the journey, so making it easy and quick can make it boring very fast.

If old school NMS players are in here remembering Waking Titan, there is a new ongoing ARG at the moment called Project Skyscraper (as in the codename of No Man's Sky in development and the name of their engine) at the Atlas65 (former ETARC) forums. So the Citizen Science Division is called back into action... Or back to lurk about what the fuck is actually going on.

We don't yet know if it's official or fanmade. Alice & Smith do not seem to have a hand in this one afaik. But do drop in if you're interested. Waking Titan was a memorable experience for me and deepens the connection I have with this game fundamentally... May this one do the same for other travellers.

I have 200-300 hours in the game, and it's pretty good. And you might love it. But be warned, it lacks the atmospheric, cinematic mood of the trailers. If you're expecting a grand, narrative-driven space odyssey, you'll be disappointed, there is basically very little to none of it. The actual game is sandbox heavy and sort-of bogged down by repetitive gameplay loops and resource management. Some would call that a boring slug... But, I enjoyed my time with it.

Edit: I misread, didn't notice you've already tried it, don't know how. I guess you already know how it goes then.

Yah, I've seen enough gameplay playthroughs where it looks like something I'd enjoy... once I get to it. It's getting to it that's been rough. I've got 200+ hours in games like Satisfactory. I'm currently playing the heck out of Subnautica. Exploring, resource gathering, building, slowly and meticulously doing things interests me. From trailers to hours of watching gameplay, it looks like something I'd get hooked on. I just struggle to get into it. This will be my 5th time re-trying it. I feel like if I just force myself to play more than a few hours I'll get hooked, I just don't make it that long.

Devs...we get it! Seriously, we do. You fucked up at launch...big time...but come on! You've pretty much given us all your first-born's by now and we know you're sorry. You really don't have to keep giving us all this. I mean, we'll take it but chill. Seriously. We're good. We forgave you around 8 years ago!

But thank you all the same,

Same here. The world etc seems awesome, but I would be hooked if I instead of running around pointing a laser pointer at shit could just send out bots to do the work and spend my time exploring shit.

To the people complaining it's too much gathering.
1) after the first few hours you should have enough units to just buy whatever standard material you need. Some obscure or rare ones you get later down the line.
2) there is a pretty extensive difficulty setting in this game. If you don't like to spend resources to buy/fuel your ship or your tools, just disable it or start in creative mode.
