No Man's Sky went gold

What exactly do you do in a game made by white guys?

Funnily enough, Life is Strange [a game about teenage girls] was made by white guys. I could hardly spot any woman in the behind the scenes video of that game's development. Directors, producers, lead designers and writers... all male.

IMO, the entire argument is pointless to me. I don't care who makes games, I care about results and in very rare cases I care about the singular figure that led the development [Kojima, etc].

Well, now we just need to wait for in depth reviews and see if it was even worth the wait. Personaly, I don't have high hopes for it.

Are all No Man's Sky threads this bad?
It's odd. Hello Games seem like a lovely bunch. They've made some fun, sweet little games like Joe Danger.

No Mans Sky looks clean, simple and obvious as s game and there's nothing remotely contentious about it. The only thing of note is it's very ambitious for s small team and it's gotten a lot of attention and has become a Sony timed exclusive on console.

Yet it produces the most idiotic and stupid vitriol for some reason with most threads requiring you to wade through some of the highest concentration of crap posts I've encountered in a single thread.

I still can't fathom why. The only thing about the game that remotely lends itself to that is the Sony deal (which admittedly is a shame as I dislike deals exclusives but by all accounts this is one of those deals that helped development). But few comments focus on that do I just don't know.

The death threats for delaying the game a few weeks so it launched in a polished state was the cherry on top of madness.

I have to admit: I'm morbidly curious to see the launch reaction.

Racing to the center huh. See I'm conflicted I wanna takr my time but in the flip side if I take my time I have to avoid the thread and not be able to talk with you guys because I don't want it spoiled

how can you spoil something that's randomly generated. shouldn't eveey experience be different?

Very interested in this game. I just hope the procedural design doesn't harm its replay value.

Pretty sure that's literally the opposite of why it's procedural. And this isn't just Minecraft or Spelunky "plop combinations of levels together" procedural. This is procedural landscapes, planets, atmospheres, buidlings, animal races, animal animations, plant life, resources/minerals, physics, space stations, battlefronts... Over an entire universe.

This isn't your daddy's procedural generation, son.

Congrats.

This kinda makes me wish it was also a bounty hunting game. Something like Space Stranger's Wrath with endless planets and creatures and tons of fun ways to capture them would kill me.

Sean is on record saying he thinks Minecraft's update/expansion model would be ideal - free, substantial content updates every 8-12 months for the future.

Bounty hunting sounds like something cool they might patch in

I genuinely still didn't really know what the game was about until I looked up some gameplay footage just now, and still a lot of details seem to be left out.

But I am pretty excited to give this a go regardless, so congrats to the team for hitting Gold.

We'll see I guess. Just saying there's a chance that the game can't keep up this sense of wonder and awe beyond the first few hours.

Good to see the developer has their game available on a DRM free store like GOG, and also equally good to see people responding by buying the game day 1.

I actually think the wonder and awe will be fine - especially as you get closer to the galactic centre, where the procedural algorithms start breaking and warping to give increasingly bizarre and creative results.

However, I'm not convinced about the gameplay. I think it'll be solid, at least, but i'm not convinced it'll carry us over 50+ hours, let alone 100+.

Years ago during Minecraft's early alpha before it went into the beta, I read something similar to this.

Kind of interesting to see how that turned out in retrospect. It's a good nostalgic memory to be honest.

i have a feeling that this game will flop bad. i dont understand whats the hype is about this game, people will get bored easily after a while. i hope i'm proven wrong

it wont flop

people might stop playing it after a week or two, but itll still get good sales at launch I think

Feel like the price is why most people will hesitate to buy it at launch, especially on PC. I wanted to try this but 60 bucks is too much.

Yeah I would honestly agree with this. I think my plan is to see the reviews, and if theyre mostly positive ill buy it and see how i feel before the 2 hour steam return policy runs out

but IMO it should have been 40. I say this obviously not knowing the full extent or scope of the game, but from what we've seen so far

I dunno. I'd argue what we've seen so far, It looks like one of the best games to come out this generation.

Good word of mouth is critical for this game.

And I think stuff like YouTube would be invaluable to show all the crazy stuff in the game.

"You'll never BELIEVE what you can find in No Man's Sky!" Rake in a couple thousand sales.

The Limited Edition sold out within days once it went up at Amazon, nevermind being a number one seller for almost two weeks.

Sales prospects for this game flopping are not likely by any means.

Congrats to the entire HG team, it has been a long and tough road for them I'm sure!

Can't wait to get my hands on it now.

It's basically the most open ended exploration space sim people have dreamed of, it's on console which rarely get these type of games, and it's beautiful to look at.

I hope it turns out to be a solid game st the very least.

Spore looked like the best game to come out last generation.
Im saying, based on what we have seen it looks great. To me it looks like its worth about any other game I've paid full price for. Spore was shit. We dont know if this game is shit or not.

Also, Hello Games did not make Spore.

Speaking of NMS. I turned on my PS4 for it to say my pre-order had been cancelled.

Re-ordered with the money it gave me back though lol.

There is also the fact that are some folks that had hands-on and actually played an early preview of the game. If signs of this game were questionable on the fact it wasn't fun to play, I'm quite sure it would have been stated, but almost all of the articles and videos of those that had hands on with the game were positive.

The article from RPS, Polygon, a few other articles as well as this video from PS Access.

IF early hands on folks had any issues or concerns about an early build they played of the game, they would naturally would have been addressed and brought up.

Figured everything would be digital these days (as in sending a finished copy of the game to Sony for distribution and shit).

I just saw on PSN it says:

Online Play: Optional

Last I'd read here there was no online at all...... Which is it?

Best way to say it's similar to something like Journey, I guess.

It's mainly a single player experience, but you can run into other players, but it's supposedly a rare occasion. No solid confirmation on this though, so I can only go on information presently available.

Sorry I couldn't give you a concrete answer.

Destiny 2 aside, this is the game I'm most excited about right now. HYPE! Have it pre-ordered digitally (this is exactly the kind of game that digital is best for - always there on your HDD) but I'm really tempted to grab a physical copy for that box art. <3

Waiting for reviews and to see if my laptop can run this. The first reveal caight my eye, but I am skeptical at this point.

You can play offline if you want, or you can be connected and upload discoveries so that others can see, and see other discoveries yourself, and possibly run into someone (Even though that'll probably be super rare).

Thank you ⭐️ The online implementation in Journey was something that worked very well for me. I like the idea that maybe you could run into someone on a rare occasion.

Edit: Also thank you for the above post 👀

I was being sarcastic. No Mans Sky threads usually have someone asking "Yeah, but what do you do in the game." despite it being explained multiple times. The notion that the team somehow wasn't good enough because they lacked diversity was silly and I said as much earlier in the thread.

It will probably be rarer than Journey, if only because the galaxy is just huge. 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets.
