No MP in The Order: 1886, confirmed

I was really hoping for a new AAA third person multiplayer shooter. Gears is dead to me ever since Epic abandoned it.

The ironic thing about this list is I honestly forgot the vast majority of the games in the 1st column actually had MP, because they are SP-focused games.

Also you left a BUNCH of games out of the second column.

Really, this attitude that all shooter games need to have tacked on MP components for the sake of having them is so perplexing to me. I am happy that The Order is going to be SP-only, because that's where I want the focus to be.
Tacked on multiplayer is why most people love the first Uncharted much more than the disappointing Uncharted 2.

It's news when everyone is wondering if it does or not. Wish people would stop trying to downplay this; it's a huge disappointment for a lot of us. I was hoping this could fill my Gears void on Playstation.

Infamous is SP only too, and I'm still waiting for a MP heavy hitter on Playstation.
it won't because for the last time, this isn't gears, not trying to be like gears , not aspiring to be like it, not emulating it. it is its own thing.

You know no more than any of us about this game. Almost everyone was comparing it to Gears.
tps and monsters equal gears? as far as the tone and setting of the trailer, it is nothing like gears. and the same people you are talking of are hoping this game to be like gears. with all the talk that rad has done about this game and their vision for it, why would i assume they'd just copy a franchise from another console?

It's not just TPS and monsters. If you had actually listened to what RaD said about "their vision", you would know that they also talked about a sophisticated cover system, which is a staple of Gears. It also looked the game had you traveling in groups of 4, another staple of Gears.

Where were you a few weeks ago? Just about every The Order thread contained Gears talk. It happened.

you mean every tps for the past 8 years? tlou has that plus tps and monsters. is it like gears? no.

I would completely understand if this was the case, but we won't know if it was worth it until it comes out.

There was that tweet from some press dude present at the recent gameplay screening who said the game plays like TLoU and has atmosphere reminiscent of Assassin's Creed. You may be right, who knows at this point, but I don't think it's going to be a whole lot like GoW. I think it'll be slower-paced and less action-orientated.

Quotes from a thread earlier this week:

I actually wouldn't be mad if all it is, is an old timey Gears of War.

That's what I'm hoping. With campaign co-op

I hope it turns out to be more than a Gears-like co-op shooter.

Gears of War 1 : Xbox 360 , The Order 1886 : PS4

Hoping for Gears of War kind of gameplay. would be so good

I'm actually hoping for this game to fill what Gears has left behind. was there any talk of this having MP?

Personally I absolutely loved the gameplay of Gears.

If The Order is a GeOW clone but with big Uncharted set piece events, a steampunk horror theme and a strong story driven narrative then I will be very happy indeed.

Whether you choose to admit or not, people were (are) thinking that this will be similar to Gears. There's no point in trying to explain why if you give generic excuses as to why I'm incorrect.

read my post. i said people are hoping this to be like gears and that just proves my point. i said this won't be like gears. the amount of people hoping this to be like it won't make the game like gears. so where am i incorrect? i am saying the similarities to gears end with tps and monsters. you are bouncing from one point to another. you are incorrect in saying this is tps, has monsters, has a cover system, has companions since tlou is like that but is nothing like gears. so then you point out how many people are hoping for a gears game, which bears nothing to whether or not this game is like gears.

I think they are wise not to build MP into this initial release.

First, they're a small studio and creating good MP takes time & skill. Even studios with a long track record of releasing mass-scale MP fuck it up (no names needed), and others continually unbalance the experience by introducing new features to combat old issues affecting balance. Even in co-op modes this applies (but to a lesser extent than competitive), and I'd sooner see a well rounded SP mode & story for a first game.

Second, both the aesthetic (2.4:1, 30fps) and the potential for fully destructible environments would present some new challenges for MP. I'm looking forward to being able to blow a hole in any floor or wall to escape/trap an enemy, and being in an MP environment where everything can be levelled.

I would hope that co-op might be a DLC option, and that if 1886 is a success that any sequels do integrate co-op and/or comp MP, but for an initial title on a new platform by a small team I think they've made the right choice.

Read my post. I said you know nothing more than the rest of us, and the trailers had led many to feel like it was going to be similar to Gears.

You're also downplaying the similarities. "Companions"? No, when did anyone say companions. We've seen a squad of 4. How is a "companion" anything like a group of 4.

If you were describing a third-person, cover based sci-fi shooter revolving around groups of 4, I'd be shocked if you weren't describing Gears of War. Even that GI preview says it's similar to Gears of War. How are you continuing to deny this?

you set yourself up for disappointment and is now making a mountain out of a molehill. next time, wait for some concrete news from the devs themselves without jumping the gun and running wild with your imagination, and throwing a tantrum at the dev on twitter. it is good to assume things from a trailer but don't go on blaming the devs for something you imagined yourself. it is okay to feel disappointed but to go as far as say this isn't worth it now without seeing anything other than a single trailer of the game, don't expect people to take you seriously. most people who are hyped for the game are still anxious because we haven't seen anyyhing, but you complainers just outright act as if you know more about making the game and running the company more than rad themselves.

No. You're purposefully blowing my reaction out of proportion. I expressed my disappointment on here without EVER insulting or degrading anybody. I then went to the source of the news, which is the RAD co-founder, and said that I would be paying $60 for [likely] 6-10 hours of content, which was upsetting to me. I also didn't say it wasn't worth it, because I have, on multiple occasions, stated that I intended (and still intend) to buy the game. I don't have a huge amount of disposable income, so I'd ideally like for the games I'm really excited for to be rich in and full of content. This guy from RAD even said that I wasn't being rude at all and he completely understood my point of view.

So you're reading into it utterly wrong. Saying and expressing your disappointment at the lack of a great multiplayer component doesn't at all say that I know more about making the game and running the company; it says that I'm disappointed in the lack of a great multiplayer component.

Some of you give off the impression that you would continue to stubbornly refuse to admit that it has anything in common with Gears unless the game had Gears of War in the title and Marcus Fenix was on the box. Saying that a game is like another game doesn't mean they're the exact same thing.

Gears is the best point of comparison. If it isn't like Gears, then what the fuck is it like? Instead of crapping all over everyone else's shorthand, provide your own. What's the better game to point to?

I love that some of the people refusing to admit any similarity to Gears are throwing up RE4 as an alternate. The shorthand for Gears was RE4 + Kill Switch or RE4 + Winback.

Never change, internet. You are a constant source of amusement.

Man I've been waiting forever for a game to ape gears 1 multiplayer which I consider the best multiplayer of the last gen. Shit was fantastic and it's a shame there's hasn't been a similar multiplayer in like 8 years.

when did everyone stop liking MP?!

kind of disappointed

SP better be top notch or this is just stupid.

Is not that we don't like MP anymore, is just that there have been so many tacked on multiplayer on games lately and honestly I rather have a damn good single player game than just having a barely functionable 4 player co-op game with pretty graphics.

I still would of liked to see their version of a tps multiplayer even though I agree that that it'll probably have a killer story I'd still like an attempt at multiplayer Sony really doesn't have any heavy hitting multiplayer exclusive shooters

It's not like they haven't tried. Dudebro isn't a Sony strength.

ummm.. I'd guess a gears clone with basic features missing....

no matter how good the single will be, sony has a hole in exclusive multiplayer in their basic (ie not multiplatform) offerings.

Why won't this be like Gears?

Fighting monsters, third person, cover based shooter, set in a dark - almost steampunk world.

There are more than a couple of facile similarities that are leading people to compare it to Gears. But it's far more similar than say TLOU or Uncharted. So I totally get people who are getting nostalgia over Gears being disappointed this has no MP.

when did everyone stop liking MP?!
When devs started shoving MP modes in games that didn't need it just to have MP, costing resources and time that otherwise could have been spent in making a better single player game, specially that those MP modes will most likely die out in months as people go back to the super popular multiplayer games. Tomb Raider 2013 is basically the biggest example of this.

I just want them to do the game they want to make. If they don't want MP, that's fine.

I think thats great! I dont want MP in games like uncharted, last of us etc, these kind of games will hold its own in Single player story mode.
