No New Assassin's Creed Coming In 2019

Ubisoft has revealed that it will not launch a new Assassin's Creed title in 2019, and instead will support this year's entry, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, with additional content designed to keep players engaged in the game. Speaking at GamesCom, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained that Assassin's Creed Odyssey's 2018 release was enabled because both 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey were being developed at the same time, and Odyssey will not be immediately followed by another game.

"On Assassin's, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin's next year," said Guillemot. "It's just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you're not going to have a fully fledged one."

Asked whether this meant there would be a spin-off title or something smaller instead of a brand new, fully fledged entry in the Assassin's Creed series, Guillemot confirmed that this would not be the case either.

"What you'll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin's Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you're going to get in for a couple of years, actually."

Reflecting on the decision to stop Assassin's Creed's yearly launch schedule and give Ubisoft's developers the time to reinvent the series for Assassin's Creed Origins, Guillemot said it was ultimately worth it.

"[The time] gave the team the possibility to really bring what they wanted to. The community has been responding very well to it and when I see what we are bringing with Odyssey I know that the community that got back in with Origins will be amazed."

Well, can't say I'm not glad about it... AC is that kind of franchise that deserves some time to breathe.

Also, this means we're getting Watch_Dogs 3 next year!

Lessons were learned, I can respect that.

This is great news, I much prefer longer development time for AssCreed games. Not just to get better games but so I don't get burnt out on them with the yearly releases.

I admit after Origins I am really looking forward to Odyssey though.

Also, it seems that AC Odyssey will have a 100h main quest storyline...

That seems huge, though I doubt that it will have quality, if true

Good.

Maybe starting work on their next gen game/engine? Hopefully they don't screw it up like Unity

That sounds bad.

The vast majority of 100h+ games only get there with a lot of filler and time wasting.
I don't have much confidence that the masters of open world bloat will do it right.

While I like Odyssey's focus on "Witcher" like RPG narrative structure, and it's Greek setting and mythology, I am glad they are taking it back to a 2 year cycle. I really want to play Odyssey, but Origins is still backlogged for me at 50% and to be honest, something looks very unpolished about Odyssey's gameplay.

After playing through Origins and it's slog, I'm not sure I'm really ready for Odyssey. Good to know they'll be supporting it with post-launch content through next year, because by then I'll probably be in the mood and it'll be cheap.

Good. I'm already incredible tired of the series again. Origins was fun but the story was still awful (including the voice acting) and the amount of crap on the map that was copy paste was too much. I hope they can quit making boring open world games. I'd rather go back to the roots where things were smaller but there was less crap all over the map.

Glad to hear that, I guess they prepared two games in case the new direction wasn't polished enough with Origins.

I'm sure there will be some kind of collection or a remaster. Assassin's Creed III remaster would be great. That is my favorite game in the series.

Maybe they are releasing a new Splinter Cell game? I really hope so. There have been rumors but they haven't said anything about it.

Watch Dogs 3 will fill the void?

Have a feeling Ubisoft will want a piece of GTAO pie and launch WDO where you can 'hopefully' travel between Chicago, San Francisco and perhaps also London the rumored location of WD3.....

I quite liked Origins but felt the game was too big. I mean, I finished the story and a lot of side fluff and still hadn't even set foot in a bunch of regions. I fear Odyssey will basically be a reskin.

The series needs this classic one year rest, hopefully they switch their efforts into Skull & Bones. I'd also take a new Rocksmith game.

Fine with this , it's the best that has happened to the IP in years....put it to sleep some time. Think UBI is working / focusing on BTS2 and also they need think how to solve the lore / story of the series ...Odissey was a safe project since it's before Origins but what comes next it's a serious task for UBI.

The best thing Origins did was having about three minutes of modern gameplay.
They should keep the Ancient Aliens presence as vague as possible. It was good back in AC1 and 2 but then Desilets left and they went full retard. They're aware of how badly managed it was.

I want to give AC another try after years of not caring for it but the combat looks terrible.

Once you play S&B you realize it is not what you expect it to be. It has been semi cancelled (back to the drawing board), previously it was a multiplayer only arcade shoot'em up. It was the worst game I played in years. Such a disconnect between marketing and what the game really is.

Aww thats shitty, I was hoping for something between Black Flag and Sea of Thieves. Seriously though I hope they take the time to actually make it what it could be.

Assassins Creed Origins feels more like a "time machine", than a video game. It is unique and fantastic game.

I think Ubisoft has finally found a distinguishing feature that AC series were severely lacking.
I'm looking forward to play Odyssey and dreaming about future Assassins Creeds games ...

I hope Watch Dogs 3 goes full on stealth/non-lethal game. Non-lethal was by far the most fun and most rewarding way to play WD2 and it's a shame that play style only had bare bones support. If they're going to keep the murderous cop killer vigilante thing going on, they need another Aiden Pierce because it's very weird tonally to have a domestic terrorist that is turning San Francisco into a war zone gaining followers on social media.

I want to believe this is because the next consoles come out in 2020 and they are targeting console specs that the low-end models of the current generation would buckle under. But I think that's wishful thinking on my part. Would they really launch a game that only runs on Pro/X and the next generation so soon? Seems doubtful to me.

Good, cause I literally cant keep up with the series, haven't even scratch much surface in Origins...but Odyssey looks hella sexy, I must day zero, no matter what.

Honestly wish they would retire the IP for good, or for at least like a decade, and made actual honest historical RPGs unrelated to AC universe.

They said 100 hours for the "main" storyline. No way that's true.

Who knows, they could be counting both players. I can't say for sure because, what if it is 100 hours for real? We'll have to wait till release to see what the real final average count is.
