I will be doing the same.
Same here. My 3DS library is growing at an insane rate. Got a 3DS XL + MK7 Bundle last week, got Pushmo and ordered both Fire Emblem and Paper Mario. Then I'll get Luigi's Mansion and get SM3DL for free. Might as well not buy new games for a while.

I would think so. When you buy a 3DS game with coins like Kid Icarus you get a code which you redeem on the eshop.
I was considering it too. Word of warning there is no online. I'm not a diehard Star Fox fan so it was a deal breaker for me.

Still don't like how early adopters of the XL get jack, and also don't like how you have to buy a game in order to get in on this. NoE just gave out a free come after you register your XL.

Download codes work on any 3DS. It's just like the download codes gotten for buying games with CN coins each month.

Yes. SM3DL and StarFox are the only games likely to be actually $40 still, but even those you could get for $20-$30 at different sales in the past 1.5 years.

I hope it's a code. I'd like to give the free game to a friend of mine. I already own all of the choices that I'd want.

I googled around a bit and I think people on the Nintendo tech forums point to it being the Club Nintendo PIN and not the serial. Something about the serial only being used for warranty purposes. I'm not sure, though.

Signs point to Luigi's Mansion. I tried the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon demo and it was pretty dull and lacked any sense of challenge.
And have you played other Layton games? If you're invested in the series, then it's not a bad idea. Otherwise, get Star Fox.

Yup.
Basically looks like Starfox 64 if it were made for the Gamecube instead. Would have been amazing with online leaderboards, dog fights and co-op.
Missed oppertunity, but worth it as a freebie.

Oh I mean, don't you get a Club Nintendo serial code to enter to register your digital versions of the game, to get coins? Never bought a digital version of a game from 3DS so not sure if that's how it works, sorry.

Oooh, I have an ITB bonus waiting for the registration of the cartridge format (saving it still
), so am wondering if registering the digital version first will do anything with it, since it was from before digital versions were made available. Probably not, but will still be interesting to see. Once Luigi's Mansion comes in I'm gonna register that, my XL (had it since launch but saved the code for next CN year, but I guess I'll use it early), and I'm gonna pick Starfox as my game, and sell off the cartridge I own for it after Nintendo puts out their save transfer tool (I gotta keep the case ).
I still think It's pretty crummy of NoA to make this promotion so limiting compared to NoE, but whatever, it doesn't affect me. I'm more mad that they took Style Savvy out of the promotion - I definitely would have picked that one for free!

Just keep in mind that for digital versions of retail games you need to complete a registration survey within one month of downloading the game to get the coins for it. However, I don't believe doing the survey and getting the coins is necessary for it to register to be eligible for the promotion (but why not get the coins right?).

Could someone please clarify this? I bought XL on the launch day and immediately registered the serial code (I did this to get gold nunchuck). But nothing happened, no survey, no coins and the system wasn't even listed on my "registered products". My CN PIN number is still unused. To get the gift which one should I enter? PIN or serial? Anybody?

You can call 1-800 numbers with skype (for free), I did this when I was overseas. However a lot of the times the nintendo hotline would be busy, idk what was up with that.
Looking forward to getting that free game, still torn on whether or not I should get starfox (already have the cart) or Professor layton. Haven't played a Professor Layton game since the first DS iteration, anything specifically special about the 3ds one?
Registering the serial code is specifically for extending the warranty. There should be some sort of club nintendo pamphlet that came with your 3ds that has a pin number printed on there. That is what you need.
CN PIN. That's what gives the coins, survey, etc.
They made it annoying to find everything, since it allows zooming in on sections in addition to the screen right in front of you. Actually wish they hadn't *enhanced* that part of the game. Only barely started playing, and it's in my backlog pile currently. Maybe it gets better, though.
in the packaging there is a little two page slip of paper that says "club nintendo code." that's what you have to use for club nintendo. I just used it earlier and got about 100 or so points from my 3ds xl (bought the blue one today).
