Nobody getting Quantum of Solace then ?

looks worse than most upscaled xbox games
Yeah, it's ugly. The only nice thing so far is the Bond model and also the music is nice (not that Treyarch had anything to do with that).

The shooting is completely run of the mill fast-paced shooting. The cover is kind of weird and a little uneven compared to something like Gears of War (prompts to go into cover? is this PDZ?)

its not bad....just like totally unspectacular.

i thought cod4 was not that pretty anyway, but this isn't even 60 fps

Making a Bond game that's just a straight-up shootfest makes absolutely no sense anymore, let alone applying that same style of gameplay to Casino Royale, which had a ton of parkour, card-playing, and Bond wrecking dudes with his bare hands.

Goldeneye was amazing back in 1997, but it was 1997. Just let it go, already.

I don't think it plays anything like Goldeneye. It feels more like quake 3 arena or something. It's absurdly fast. It's just like action set piece after action set piece. It's not boring, that's for sure. It has QTEs, lol.

You take very little damage and your health regenerates in 2 seconds. Everyone dies in like 2 hits. You can go stealth maybe later? Right now I'm just shooting people because that's what it's having me do.

I don't get all the marketing that says "OMG BEST GMAE SINSE GOLDENEYE". Come on...move out of your parents basement and realize that the EA games were at least average to good, and Everything or Nothing in particular was fantastic.

A cookie-cutter cover system, regenerating health, QTEs...those sorts of things are usually pretty clear indicators that the developers aren't interested in breaking the mold.

Rented it... the game plays fine I guess but it is nothing special. The multiplayer actually has a matchmaking system which means it will be dead soon as a big community is needd to support that sort of game. Certainly a rental at best for most if not all gamers.

I agree, Goldeneye was great but it seems to have hamstrung every future Bond game from here to infinity. Nowadays you do have the technology and ability to make a game with the sort of variety in an actual Bond movie. Look at what Obsidian is doing with Alpha Protocol... something more action-based with some Mirror's Edge style platforming and you are on the right track. Not just to making a great worthy Bond game, but the best game ever. No more Goldeneye clones, please.

I finally got around to downloading and playing the Quantum of Solace PC demo. And I am reminded how much I hate PC gaming, including mouse and keyboard. Anyway, I'd definitely be interested in playing the full game on 360. As a Bond fan at least. I'll try to rent it over the next few weeks.

I thought it was a pretty decent shooter tbh. True it doesnt fit the bond style but if you take it for its own merits then its a well spent 4-5 hours in campaign and with some half decent multiplayer probably longer overall. At the very least it is without question the best direct movie to game for a good while.

Yeah, while I'm going to play Quantum of Solace, and probably enjoy it for what it is, I hope they take a different direction for the next Bond game, whenever it pops up. I never played the From Russia With Love game, but I think third-person might be the way to go. Bond definitely doesn't fit the first-person shooter genre anymore. A third-person shooter, with some hand-to-hand stuff, and other varied stuff thrown in to make it "more Bond-like" would probably do well.

EDIT: And go figure, I saw From Russia With Love for like $4.99 the other day at Best Buy...Was thinking of picking it up just for fun and it's not 360 backwards compatible. Third game in a row this has happened to me with.

So, this game isn't anything worth investing time into? I thought it looked pretty decent in a mundane kinda way. Like a shooter without anything special about it. Fun to play through once or twice, since it's supposedly short. I was thinking of buying it since I saw it on sale.

But then I saw that screenshot on the first page, with the "next gen water". Man, that screen doesn't look good.

considering that you'll never get any return on that time you invested, it would be best to spend as little time with it as possible. It is decent and mundane and it definitely has nothing special, as you said. But playing it once or twice is a stretch. I played it all the way through hoping for an ending that would impress me but it never got there. In retrospect, I wish I had just played it halfway and quit. It peaks somewhere around the Italy/jungle stages and fizzles after that. If you have time to burn, rent it.

there's a $20 coupon for this game at Best Buy and it's on sale for $29.99. Is the game worth $9.99?
even if its an average game, 10 bucks is a pretty good deal.

[never played the game so i dont know for sure]

guys on the playstation nation podcast said it was worth the 10 bucks yesterday.

There's an online component which still has some people on it.

the single player is only 4-5 hours long though.

ps. i haven't played the game either.
