X-Factor is scripted, but not to the level that you're thinking. I don't think Natalia Kills would intentionally risk torpedoing her career by coming off so delusional and hateful for the sake of an X-Factor NZ script. And, make no mistake, this is definitely not a good moment for her career.

It's entirely scripted and staged, the bloke wouldn't have even had a say in how he was dressed which conveniently fed into the very obviously pre-planned rant.

Show gets publicity, he gets sympathy votes, apology after "the public has spoken", and everything carries on as normal.

Anyone worried about the integrity of their career isn't appearing on X-Factor in the first place, they are going where the easy money is and where Cowell is concerned that means doing your bit no matter what.

This is X-Factor New Zealand, I don't think it Simon Cowell has an ounce of his being caring about this version.

He actualy shows up on an episode assigning the groups to each judge.

I think you're overestimating how much these shows care about the contestants.

It's about the judges getting what little exposure/paycheck they can, and ratings for the show. But they don't give a shit about the individual contestants. None of the judges, especially those judges with burgeoning singing careers of their own, are going to risk setting their own careers on fire just to be a psycho bad guy for a script to uplift a contestant.

Seems like "disgusting" is NeoGaf's favourite word this year. "Disgusting this", "Disgusting that". "[Insert name here] is so disgusting". "That is disgusting" "I'm disgusted" etc etc.

The days of thread titles like "look at these two cunts be assholes" is long over.

it never existed I was just kidding

Talentless hacks being talentless hacks.

The fact that my namesake emerged from this show with her integrity intact is a miracle. Leona her steely constitution and flawless disposition

Who said anything about caring about the contestants? They don't, but they are intrinsic to how the show works.

X-Factor ramps and de-ramps contestants as each week go by, they all have a life-expectancy and 3-arc stories. It's incredibly stage-managed to get the desired results for the best television and keep the commercially viable ones in till the end.

The judges are characters, the contestants are characters. The contestants just don't get to decide how they're portrayed or how long they last. That's all done with costume, song-choice, staging and the judge's comments. All of which is out of their hands and pre-planned.

A judge playing the villain is all part of it, they are well-aware of it, and no one has set their career on fire apart from in the eyes of those caught up in the faux-drama.

Is there a results show to come? If so it will all play into that as the story reaches the 'right' conclusion.

Wow Natalia Kills is a COMPLETE joke and her husband is an embarrassment. Vile. Good on the other judge for shutting them down and making them look like the fools they are.

Also, good on the contestant, he was clearly emotional and caught off guard, with tears in his eyes but kept it together and even managed to dish back kind comments in the face of this onslaught. May Natalia fade into obscurity (even further).

Hey I recognize this woman from some gifs here on GAF, lol. I hope that was staged, I refuse to believe humans can be this dumb.

I agree with you on the nature of how the show is staged. I just don't think it's completely scripted drama, though.

Like, I'm pretty sure Natalia and Willy are on the show with the intention of being the villains. But I also think that they're just vile enough, and completely lacking in self-awareness, for that moment to have been real. I doubt there was a cue card in front of Natalia on that table saying, "Criticize contestant #31 for looking like your husband."

What an idiot... "No artist integrity" because he wore a suit and tie, which is apparently her husband's "trademark look". Can't even begin to point out how hilariously unintelligible her argument is.

Hah, their cue cards note pads are always on the desk in the UK one. Couldn't see in this clip.

If there's a results show still to come it will probably be painfully obvious how this story was planned to play out.

Even if it is staged its dumb enough to recite said script and come off looking like a cunt

None of us knew who she was but now we at least know she is an idiot

Natalia Kills is just another Lady GaGa copy-cat, a remnant of a few years ago that has constantly struggled to find success. Who knows if this will hurt or help her career but it was unquestionably stupid.

I SCREAMED when she used the phrase "artistic integrity". Girl, you're sittin' there lookin' like Edna Mode and have the nerve to release trash like this as a single:

Saturday Night

This is so stupid. He's just wearing generic male clothes, it's not like you can be very original if you're a man anyway (when it comes to formal clothes I mean).

It's X Factor. Everything about it is staged and rehearsed. I love that Simon tried to bring that dogshit to the US and failed miserably.

LOL at saying he was infringing on copyright and IP laws when he had a standard haircut and a nice suit on for a TV appearance.

what a bunch of turds, does her husband know that "look" is already done by a lot of other people? maybe her husband is the creep with the skin face on.

So, do they ever actually mention the act at all or does she stay hung up on the belief that her husband invented that look?

i mean are we really gonna pretend like she wasn't told by a producer backstage to say this stuff for exposure?

she might be a miserable person but there's no way this wasn't partially staged

Haha, the seriousness in this thread is hilarious.

It's X-Factor, pantomime karaoke. Scripted controversies are in the script.

Maybe.

But only someone really desperate would agree to be a part of a scripted bit that makes them look like they are both clueless and heartless as well as deluded about their level of fame and importance. How many fans do either of them gain from this? How do they gain anything from this other than perhaps a little more money from the show and hopes to continue to be asked back?

You only agree to shit like this if you're certain you have no more of a career left in anything but cash in reality TV dramatics. (Or you're an idiot.)

I think you're making the common mistake of assuming that just because much of reality TV is produced and manipulated, therefor every word that's said is scripted. That's almost never the case. Most people aren't actors. They can't deliver a line that's been fed to them to save their life.

she might have gone a little overboard but i still think someone told her to be unnecessarily harsh and rude

i mean, between them they've turned xfactor new zealand from a non-entity into international pop culture gossip focus

of course this shit is staged

They even made a bit of news when Natalia told the public to "shut the fuck up" when she was telling something positive to a contestant so the contestant wouldn't be overshadowed by others on the show.
