Nomura - "...we're absolutely not making FFVII remake"

Anyone else getting kind of sick of people derailing topics that already kind of sucked with potential sales figures?

Sakaguchi's arrogance? What?

Did you even read anything in this thread or did you just see Final Fantasy and decide to post that comment?

Sakaguchi originally had a different story in mind for FFVII, but Kitase and Nomura changed it. How does that make Sakaguchi arrogant?

IMO a FF VII with the standard of the original would be too time consuming and expensive (for ps3/360).

If they remade it, people would be playing it with perspective and realize that it's a terrible ****ing game.

Actually I'm replaying it now on the PSP. While the "plot twist" shocker obviously doesn't have the same impact, the world they created for the game and atmosphere is still absolutely fantastic, and the battle system is still pretty fun (mixing and matching materia ftw).

The main thing that kills me about playing the old version are the pre-rendered environments really make it hard to sometimes be able to tell where you're supposed to go.

Just makes me wonder what SE's big announcement in November will be? Though I don't really want to stoke the flames any more, I can't help but feel if SE were ever really seriously considering a FF VII redux they would have moved on it by now.

Like someone said earlier, if FF XIII is going to be this massive all consuming graphical monster, surely people will want to look forward, not backwards.

Awesome proportions and the placement of the head to the torso.

didn't nomura said he wouldn't do a final mix version of KH2 because the game was already perfect or something along those lines?
FFVII REMAKE CONFIRMED!

Fantastic world? FFVII? FFVII's world map was generic, bland, and filled with generic towns - each with generic background art. There are few exceptions, of course, like Midgar, but the FFs from VIII and beyond have improved so much when it comes to worlds and their history and culture, that it is not even funny.

We're absolutely not, but if fans want it, never say never

wtf kind of shit is that? go draw another character with 80 million unnecessary buckles and chains and shit on their clothes.

Nomura is the Rob Leifeld of gaming.

:lol :lol
I thought I was the only one that thought Leifeld was a talentless hack. Haven't heard a RL crack since middle school, but most of my friends loved his uninspired character designs (Youngbloods bleh) and the way he tried his damnedest to mimic Jim Lee, yet failed horribly.

I nominate you for comment of the thread.

I replayed it not too long ago as well and it still holds up very well. Its strength is its atmosphere and pacing. It's not my favorite story or plot and the death scene didn't do much for me, but the game still has one of the most immersive grips in the genre. The only RPG that goes above it for me on replays is Deux Ex. Once I get into it a bit, it becomes just such a focused and tense story, and it really never falters in terms of that atmosphere.

Most of the time it's never given value though. It's overwhelmed by its coolness factor or demeaned for that very trait or its fans which focus on that trait. Its ludicrous popularity has been counterproductive to the recongintion of the few elements the game really does do well, basically.

boo-urns...I want to play FF7 again.

I can't tolerate the controls and visuals anymore in the original version...sooo outdated.

If that were always the case, where is the FFVIII remake for the PS2 Square obviously confirmed with their PS2 tech demo?

Square announced FF VII, VIII, and IX remakes for the PS2 back then. It's obviously vaporware now.

He's pretty much a running joke in the comic book industry. It's not exactly an original quip, but it is a true one, at least on Leifeld's side.

Sorry but I'm not in the comic book industry and I haven't touched anything with Leifeld's name on it since that Brigade skateboard I got back in the day
kidding
.

Seriosly though, my friends loved him so how was I supposed to know that they were the wierdos?

Good riddance.... the game already exists, and I'm fine with it.

What it could use is a new fan translation.... So you could rip the iso from your copy, patch it, and burn it back to a disc or play it on PSP.... Keep "this guy are sick" for laughs, but rewrite everything that is important! The original Sony translation was pre-16 bit A WINNER IS YOU quality translation.....

There was a character called Hot Blooded Detective Joe." The Midgar city was already in place at this point. The early part of the story that was written by Sakaguchi involved Detective Joe chasing after the main characters, who then blow up the city.
Sounds like some classic Hollywood mystery, knowing Sakaguchi's love of early films.

I'd wager the detective had a big burly Japanese mustache. Nomura then shrieked upon seeing it, his Gacktness threatened.

a winning post is this.

FFIX needs more love
and a faster battle system.

Yes please.

IX is one of the best in the franchise
even with the older, slower battle system

sadly this is the attitude that killed next-gen in Japan.

well you know, expectations would be over the roof. they have would have to deliver. an emo and half-assed remake wouldn't help them.

Sorry, but just because your system of choice isn't doing so well it doesn't mean next-gen (which really should be called current-gen by now) is dead.

I honestly need to remember to take an anatomy book to Comic Con this year to get a picture of Liefeld holding it.

It'll happen when it happens.

And when it happens, I pray they make the materia system not suck.

Having played through it again, gameplay wise, the game was shit. Plot wise, it was one of (if not the) best thing they've ever done. Graphically, at the time, it was amazing. But the entire system of advancement revolves around upgrading interchangeable balls of magical energy, none of which actually bind to any character in any way, meaning you're not leveling up or customizing a character, you're just farming magic balls.

For some reason this FINAL FANTASY SPECULATION topic makes me want to put my face in Captain America's bosom, shake my head from side to side and go "brBrBrBr"... GAFsanity indeed.

The detective story sounds cool.

Christ, how easily impressed are you? I'm not saying it couldn't have been cool, but the details presented in the interview are so ridiculously sparse to draw a conclusion like that from.

"I was, you know, planning to have a hot-blooded detective chase after the main characters."

Merovingian: "SO AWESOME WOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!"
