"NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE!", eukaryotic cells & evolution are hard

I didn't watch the video 100% of the way through, but i hope that the guy behind the camera silently judges her from behind the camera for the entire duration.

Edit: watched it some more and he doesn't, he's a huge idiot as well.

I watched this earlier! My favorite part, by far, is her discussion of dragons! If you aren't gonna watch the whole thing skip ahead to the part where she is looking at the dinosaurs! It's so good bc it's so bad!

I jumped forward through most of it because she is annoying.

At around 6:40 she pulls the old "were you there?" rhetoric. Is she for real or a youtube character/personality?

I kept trying to write posts in reply to this video but they all contained "punched in the face" somewhere so I just gave up.

The level of stress she seems to be under while in the presence of widely accepted conclusions that contradict her beliefs is a sad result of her inability to cope with anything that doesn't align with her childhood indoctrination.

It's depressing.

I saw this on liveleak the other night and she made my head hurt. I cant fathom there are people out there that are really that stupid.

"Really? Really? Show me the video proof"

Just......I dont know. You couldnt imprint any knowledge on her even if you beat her over the head with an encyclopedia.

Oh my gosh, why did you show me this? I'm just sitting on the bus correcting everything she says in my head. Aaaaahhhhh

"This is a fantasy. Like dragons are a fantasy! Well, dragons aren't a fantasy, but this is."

Are we sure this isn't a comedy routine? She could give Steve Carrell in The Office a run for his money.

Only made it like 30 seconds in and I can't take anymore of whatever that is.

But to those of you that watched the whole thing: creationist?

I don't want to watch this, I just read the (confusing) description.

She found enough bias to show that the people who put this exhibit together at the Field Museum pushed an agenda with quasi-religious overtones: the cult of "science" where the "scientists" are more like high priests pushing a religion instead of using the correct scientific method.

Ha. Making fun of religion while pushing a religious agenda. That makes so much sense.

"why we still got monkeys?"

because someone chose us instead of monkeys.
they fused our second and third pair of chromosomes together.
if they did that to monkeys instead, today monkeys would be humans and humans would be monkeys.

"How do you know?" is a valid question though. Maybe she should find that out.

The problem is she probably isn't being honest here. She wants to come off as espousing a position of rigid skepticism, which is fine in and of itself. But I bet you anything her credulity knows no bounds when it comes to believing in even more extraordinary claims based on worse/no evidence. Like, what if she believed in the story of Noah's Ark? She would lose all credibility.

Skepticism is fine so long as you apply it to all areas in life. I don't see this woman doing this since I get serious creationist vibes from her. I could be wrong though... maybe she is an honest skeptic about everything but the thing is you rarely ever come across such people.

Can someone confirm whether or not she's some sort of creationist?

edit: wtf at 19 mins in she talks about how some dinosaur bones she saw in a museum must have been... a DRAGON. Can't tell if serious.

"This is a fantasy, a fantasy like dragons. Except dragons aren't fantasy" - Probably the best line in the video.

I had to search for "cave paintings of dinosaurs". The results were quite expected (not very convincing that is).

I'd call this more or less just denial. Being sceptical about something doesn't mean denying something outright but questioning or being doubtful. Meaning that if your questions were reasonably answered you are willing to accept the proposition. However what she demands is unreasonable evidence and thus made it clear that she has denied basically all other conclusions than her own.

While the "how do you know" question is valid, she doesn't use it as a device for inquiry but an argument against one.

Religious types using the term "religious" as a pejorative in cases like these really make me scratch my head.

This is VERY painful to watch.

5:20 is where it gets REALLY crazy.
"HOW DO YOU KNOW? HOW DO YOU KNOW? ALL JUST A FAIRY TALE!"

I need to go to the Bible for answers, folks. Clearly that is a better source.

17:15 is hilarious.

'and you have to walk through ALL of that to get to the dinosaurs. That's all people want to see!... Except those stuff in the water before, that was cool. '

Hm, so basically she has a hard time comprehending divergent paths?
That A can split off into Aa and Ab, where Aa will more closely resemble A as opposed to Ab.

Is it really that hard of a concept to wrap your head around?

This woman scares me

I just got to the dragon part, holy cow

If her ancestors come from Europe and she's American... why do we still have Europeans? That's what I thought.

The lack of an Immanuel Kant-like person in the 18th Century is still showing today in the US, lol.

I made it until 38s, when she was claiming, that the continued existence of monocellular eukaryotes would be proof, they never evolved.

That is a very good comparison, perhaps that might help her understand it a bit.
Some europeans turned into americans, but there are still europeans.

I only made it 2 minutes.

Someone teach this idiot 10th grade science (and other Highschool bio courses), then make her take an intro course in genetics.

God she is stupid

Why we still got Europeans?
Why we still got Africans?
Why we still got monkeys?
Why we still got other mammals?
Why we still got fish?

You could seriously bring this line of logic all the way down to bacteria. But then they'd realize how fucking dumb they sound if they were actually logically consistent and asked the question "If evolution is true, why we still got bacteria?"

For some reason creationists think the end goal of evolution is to transform all forms of life (monkeys especially) into human beings, and since this is obviously not the case then evolution must be false. Basically one big straw man argument. What they fail to understand is that there is nothing at all special about monkeys or homo-sapiens when you look at the big picture of evolution.

My favorite easy to understand evolution example is dog breeding. It's not really the same, but it shows how you can drastically change characteristics in the same species. If it happens when you purposefully set it up over a few years, surely it can happen on it's own over millions.

Looking through the topic, I thought that everyone was being a bit mean by ganging up on an old lady. But then I opened the link and saw that the video was of Megan Fox, so never mind.

preach it, sister !

The obsession with Darwin, I think, really illustrates how these people think. It is almost as if they believe that Darwin is still the single source for every modern thought about evolution and there exists no person since who has studied, discovered and written about evolutionary processes. Regardless of what lies or truths about what Darwin has or hasn't said it is inconsequential to modern evolutionary biology. Darwin was not merely taken on his word.

Though... they're often Christian so I guess the concept that people do just take Darwin on his word probably doesn't seem too absurd to people who believe a whole bunch of shite without verifiable evidence.
