Noooooo!: Your worst game freezes

Conker Live&Reloaded, during the ending cutscene. I just stood up all pissed, turned off the xbox and never went back to it.

Bully RRoDed my first 360.

I've also had many, many freezes in RPGs where I lost 3+ hours of gameplay. Usually kills my interest in the game completely.

Final battle of Eternal Darkness my GCN said it couldn't read the disc. Thank God that Nintendo taught me how to clean a disc.

oh yeah!

Power outage while trying to do the 100 super jumps in mario rpg.

Wasn't that bad because I got it after I restarted lol.

Is that actually even possible? I never got over 20 jumps tops.

You know some secret Mario-fu that allows you get insane combos?

Final Fantasy X
....just when I was about to dodge all those fuckin' lightning strikes!

(It was a power outage, funnily enough)

I had a power outage while dodging the lightning bolts in Final Fantasy X. I was really close to 200 too.

This worked almost too well...

My xbox 360 froze while I was fighting the Ethereal Queen in SO4.
My PS3 got the YLOD while playing GT5.
A power outage during a 9 hour endurance race in GT5.

...those are the most frustrating that I can remember.

One to add to the (small) DS freeze list:

Ace Attorney (1 or 2, can't remember).

Bugger froze near the end of one of the chapters. I was so consumed I didn't stop to save any time during the chapter, so I had to do the whole thing again!

Not to bad if it's a game that has lots of game play, but a game like Ace Attorney it becomes a chore to re-play.

Pokemon Stadium

I don't remember it clearly but there was one battle with Mew and for me it was hard as hell. I couldn't beat him! It took me so many tries. I beat him eventually and I was SO fucking glad.. I think I.. danced.. not sure. Anyway, my controller fell to the floor and lost the connection to the Transfer Pak -> Freeze. I was devastated. D:

PS3 GOTY Oblivion and GOTY Fallout 3

Fallout 3 was by far the worst one, Oblivion is very playable. Fallout 3 locked up all the fucking time, think i ended up with about 10-15 hard lockups by the time i got my platinum

In the early days of Neopets I set the world record in one of the games, then I lost the internet connection as I clicked "send score" (lol satellite internet)

Tried and tried to get it again but I couldn't, and nobody believed me. :(

Had FFVIII freeze on me right after I beat Omega Weapon. Didn't touch the game for a few weeks after that.

Dracula X for the SNES froze halfway through the Dracula battle for me as well. I don't think I ever beat him, come to think of it.

Edit:

This happened to me in Ace Attorney 3, the fourth case in particular. Was a great case, but I was pissed off that I had to replay it again.

Lost about 1.5 hours of progress in Mass Effect. Should have quick saved more, but I didn't. That was years ago, and I still haven't come back to the series since then.

New Vegas.

Finally made it to The Strip and was progressing fairly quickly through some main quests, after a long period of just wandering about. Exit an interior and the game freezes, losing around 6-7 hours of progress.

Know I should've manually saved more often, but completely ruined any desire to carry on with the game despite my enjoyment - haven't really gone back to it since (although I've been tempted recently).

Had a 360 freeze up on me during day 5 of Infinity Mode in Dead Rising. I moved through a door and that loading screen just never finished. That was the last time I played it.

Rented a Japanese Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure, did not have a memory card. Made it allllll the way to perfect chaos without turning the game off, and froze when the boss fight started.

*tweak*

I save all the time, so I don't really have bad experiences with it, Skyrim is the one with the most freezes for me, it's not that I lost a lot of progress but it's kind of annoying when I was just playing for 20minutes before I go to bed and losing all those progress, especially when it was doing chores like selling shit or crafting, then I have to reboot, load the game and go through that again...

Ar Tonelico 2, the game froze on my once and it also happened to corrupt all of my save files, 27 hours down the drain.

I was so pissed off that I didn't replay the game for a very very long time.

I was five songs away from not only finishing the Endless Setlist 2 in Rock Band 2 (Every song in a row) but I also had the achievement of not pausing or failing during the setlist at all going. Then my copy of the game froze on Breaking Wheel: Shoulder to the Plow. Everything was lost.

I never attempted it again

Morrowind a million times. Made me so paranoid I would literally quick save every ten seconds after awhile.

I was scratching my head trying to think of a game that froze on me a lot. Here it is. Can't believe I forgot morrowind. Froze on me all the time on PC and Xbox. Looking back, I can't believe I kept it up.

These days a bad freeze is enough to sour the whole experience. So much that I usually put the game away for a looong while.

Aw damn. This too! I got stuck in an elevator. Don't know what happened to my save. I may have actually saved in the elevator and exited the game or something. But whatever happened, all my saves were gone and I could not leave the elevator. Did not play it again until a couple of years later.

KZ2 froze in my 60GB PS3. When I turned it back on, the yellow light of death laughed vigorously at me for spending $600 on a shitty launch unit that only lasted 2 years.

I hate the crashes *during a save*, corrupting the save game and forcing you to go back to a different save... if you even have that...

This happened to my brother 50-something hours into Tales of Vesperia. Our 360 decided to have a brain-fart while saving and corrupted his only file. This happened to him while the game was still relatively new (definitely before the PS3 version) and he still hasn't managed to get himself to start the game all over again after that.

I'm always scared of that, so I make multiple saves, I do get the bullshit freeze when bringing up the menu to save, fuck, I'm trying to save incase it freezes, so it freezes before I actually do.

Final Fantasy VIII during the ending. I beat the boss, saw about 3 minutes of the ending and then it froze. Never played it again, never looked it up online.

Well, it wasn't a freeze, but this story is relevant for worst-gaming-loss-due-to-malfunction:

A friend and I had just gotten Street Fighter IV (vanilla) the day it came out and were hanging out unlocking the additional characters. We worked on it for a while. Finally, we had all of them besides Gouken... we went through the steps to fight him, fought him, and won. While the credits were rolling, the PS3 died. It was a YLOD situation... his PS3 died with my copy of SF4 in it.

So we ended up having to do that again after he got his PS3 repaired on his machine, and I had to get another copy of the game so I could play it on mine. (Fortunately he bought me a new copy of the game and just kept the one that was stuck in the PS3 when it was returned to him.)

It was infuriating all around.

Bow to your Glitch master GAF. I've never played a single game without glitching it, or freezing it in some manner. I've screwed up every game I've ever touched and the list of game ending freezes/reset situations I have goes on awhile.

  • Golden Sun:The Lost Ages-Game froze all the way out in Atlantis and I lost everything. In fact I glitched it into being unbeatable which is why I had to start over.
  • Final Fantasy 7-The burning of Nibelheim scene had the game freeze right before it. Used disc was damaged and I never got to play past that until years later.
  • Final Fantasy 4- Cart erased my save on the moon before last boss. ;_;
  • Portal- In a wall forever.
  • Batman Arkham City (360)- Tried to glide while dropping down the side of an area covered in strands of decorative lights. Well one gets snagged on me right before I land and Batman can't do his landing pose where he goes to one knee then stands up. The game gets confused so he raises his head slowly, spreads his arms like Criss Angel and uses his Jesus powers to fly. At this point he is now shot straight up and is perched in his arms spread cape flared pose tippy toe-ing atop the wire that had snagged him. I could spin and spin and nothing else as I flew forever atop it. Had to reset to continue.
  • Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones- The ladder glitch game freeze on the Xbox got me. The only way past this freeze that was in every copy was to toss your subweapon and wall jump above the ladder that freezes the game at the top.
  • Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana- Game freezes during end credits meaning you can never save and get the final dungeon, a character, and all the rest of the story. You have to disable all sound/sound fx in the game before beating it to eliminate this. Its in every US copy for the PS2.
  • Arcana Heart-Dragon Glitch. Use the dragon and it flies off screen and you can never win.
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2- Best ride I'd ever gotten, and had huge points coming...clipped through a wall and black screened. I could eternaly trick for points but never land for the top score reward. Had to reset.
  • Sonic Generations PC- In escape from the city at the end of the chase the world disappeared and I would just be in the sky instead of a plaza. If I hit the ring the game locked. Took a patch and another controller to end this madness to progress.
  • DC Universe Online PC- Tried to use wall climb during a room load in the first building (Grodd) ended up climbing out of the world and into oblivion. Theres screenshots of it up here as my model kept getting cloned and making clones of anything he touched. Whole game eventually locked and had to open a save.

It was probably a lockup I had while playing Morrowind. Seeing that I did not have a gaming PC to play it on, I was playing on the Xbox. Ohhhh boy, that poor console would teeter on the edge of having a meltdown every time I played it. It would freeze pretty constantly. One day it froze during a load as it often did. Except this time it corrupted all of my recent save files. About 30-40 hours of game play gone. I remember my jaw just dropping. I didn't play for a long time after that.

More recent;y it seems any time I'm having an amazing game of BF3 my 360 freezes :( Again, what a difference a good PC would make.

I was playing Starcraft online, some crazy big game hunter map 8 person ffa. It was down to me and one other person, my army was ready and ITCHIN for more action. I select my units, scroll to his section on the map, right click and.....

all of a sudden my CD drive starts spinning up. Loading, I think. Damn, couldn't be a worse time for it to freeze up.

less than a second or two later I hear a big BOOM and I'm confused as fuck. I turn around to see my Brood War cd scattered all over my room...

:(

A friend of mine had a pretty bad malfunction on Assassin's Creed 2. A guard shouted "Hey you" from a tower, and proceeded to multiply over and over until the game crashed. His save file was ruined.

Not a freeze but if anyone remembers the blackout back in 2003. I was playing windwaker on GC and hadn't saved in over 5-6 hours. The power went out and I nearly punched a hole in my wall in the basement.

Other than that, the worst worst game freezes from scratched games you'd rent from blockbuster. You'd get to a certain part and it would freeze or lock up and you couldn't get past it. The two games I remember it happening on a lot were the original MGS and jade cocoon lol.

This is why I dislike any game that saves only using Autosave and in only 1 save..., games like modern shooters or Uncharted series.

Well, not that I dislike the games themselves actually... just the autosave stuff.

For me i think it was knights of the old republic 2. i think i was 3 hours into the game and it froze...had to restart. from then on i have always saved after every 15 minutes or so. I'm never losing progress again.
