Noooooo!: Your worst game freezes

Chrono Cross on a PS3. It freezes at the ship. Took me forever to get the attachment to swap a gamesave to a ps2 memory card that I had to buy, and then borrow a buddy's PS2.

I had a lot of issues with the Odin sphere save file continually corrupting, but that probably wouldn't count as it was not technically a game crash.

PSO on my gamecube while saving. I lost at least over 300 hours after 3 corruptions, but i kept coming back. Luckily, the game was already kind of broken then and saying you got corrupted in a lobby would more than likely get you someone who was willing to drop a few dupes your way to get you back on your feet.

Well, I have a story from a couple of weeks ago, was playing Just Cause 2 and needed to get to 75% completion for a trophy, i was at around 70% when the power in the room where i was playing died, due to a faulty device in the kitchen.
Now the game does auto-save, so i wasnt anticipating any problems once i would turn it back on. Well, the save did not corrupt, but i was not able to save anymore. So this meant i had to get to 75% without getting killed or making any stupid mistakes, otherwise it would reload the auto save at 70%. Now 5% might not seem like much, but in this game it meant i had to take over villages, cities and military installations to gain barely ~.2% for every single one.
Took about 2 or so hours to get that 5%
it was worth it

WoW during Blackwing Lair Nefarian as the main tank.

One of my fan's said goodbye -> Computer overheated and shutdown completely.

Zelda: Majora's Mask...

I had finished Woodfall and Snowhead and then CRASH. It was a long gaming session and I never saved :(

(EDIT)
It wasn't on my first playthrough, it was on the GC collectors disk...but I haven't been able to bring myself to play it since.

BF3 only freezes for me when I'm having a good game.

I never get a freeze or a disconnect when I'm getting my ass kicked...

I had a very similar experience. I had just collected all the zora eggs and was on my way back to hatch them and the game just froze. I was playing on the GC collectors disc too.

I think it was 49 wins in on MK2 on the SNES in versus mode so that we could fight Noobsaibot and the SNES froze.

Any time in WoW where I've solo'd something I probably shouldn't, I fire off my first frostbolt and wonder why my second isn't releasing to realise it has lagged/frozen and I've been two-shot by the time I've logged back in. :-/

Replace BF3 with TF2 and you've got my story. Luckily it takes less than a minute to get back in the server. Unless someone took the last goddamn spot!

And a bit unrelated: My mouse batteries once died while I was playing demo and got kritz from a medic. I literally could've wiped out the entire team completely. :(

Modern Warfare 2 and Devil May Cry: both crashed right before the final cutscene. And, of course, a lot of other games that crashed when I forgot to save every 10 minutes.

After BEATING the boss in DDS2. For a moment I considered throwing my PS2 outta the window. Luckily the second time the boss was pretty easy.

OP that's what you get for playing substandard adventure games. I swear it's like the Japanese haven't heard of the Auto-save yet.

Tales of Vesperia PS3. I was grinding for skills with everyone during one of the parts where Flynn joins. It was summer and 2 different air conditioners were on in the house. Sister turns on vacuum cleaner and all the power in the house goes off. 3 hours down the drain. What really annoyed me was that I was on the world map and could've saved any time.

Xenoblade on Dolphin. Fortunately, never more than an hour or two, but it still made me save more often. I've tweaked the settings to all but get rid of the freezes, though :)

Dark Souls. I get in front of Sif for the first time ever, the cinematic launches, I'm all "wooooooooooooow" and then there's no sound, and it stays stuck with that big wonderful wolf howling at the moon (only with no real audible howling).
Not a problem, progress is saved pretty regularly. I go back, load my game and... half the forest level is missing, I'm walking on black/clipping emptiness. After some time, I realize the game didn't really freeze: the blu-ray drive in my good old fat ps3 had just died on me.

I was at the 20h mark at the time I think, no ps+ to cloud my game. I just got out, bought a slim, came back home and started again from scratch, slaughtering everything on my path in the following couple of hours, only to get back to Sif and go "wooooooooooooow" all over again. This time though, he didn't get stuck mid-howling. And then I died.

So yeah: Dark Souls had killed me dozens of times already, apparently decided it wasn't enough, so it also killed my ps3.

I was scratching my head trying to think of a game that froze on me a lot. Here it is. Can't believe I forgot morrowind. Froze on me all the time on PC and Xbox. Looking back, I can't believe I kept it up.

These days a bad freeze is enough to sour the whole experience. So much that I usually put the game away for a looong while.

Identical. Played it on both as well. On 360 I hit a game ending bug on mission 3 in the main story when an npc I had to talk to fell through the floor. Problem was this was about 60 hours in when I had done every sidequest I possibly could.

Worst game freeze was playing Prototype: Was doing a really hard mission completely stealthily to work on a trophy. Hadn't been seen at all and was literally within two buildings of completing the objective after spending 20+ minutes on the mission. Game froze. I put it down and never picked it up again.

I remember playing Morrowind GOTY on original Xbox and it freezing randomly every couple of hours. It's amazing how it's in my top 3 favorite games ever and it probably froze on me at least 100 times during my playthroughs of it. Everytime I opened a door in Vivec I expected a freeze.

Majora's Mask GCN, of course. It's especially bad due to how infrequent saving is in that game.
I was lucky to sell my copy on eBay for more than the cost to replace everything on the Virtual Console.

Was playing Dark Souls and finally grinded my way the Queleg. Doing all right in the battle, then the power goes out...... I lost so much progress and so many souls because the cable guys were working outside my apartment and hit the wrong line. I was so beside myself

I know its not a freeze, per se, but its very similiar

My Dark Souls froze the other day. But I didn't lose much thankfully, I'm at bonfires all the damn time.

you guys do realize the game saves all the time? Bonfires are checkpoints, not save points. Next time you open a menu, see the little flame in the top right corner? That means it's saving.

Several crashes during KOTOR 2, but I saved fairly regularly so those weren't too bad.

It wasn't until I was 30 hours or more into the game before I finished a planet and I couldn't leave.

Ship empty, couldn't activate navigation computer, no fix on the entire internet. Wasn't enjoying the game enough to trudge through it all again.

Thankfully I don't remember ever lost saves due to a freeze or crash. Even with all the 3rd party memory cards I used back in the PS2, Gamecube era. D:

I don't remember the specifics (I think my mind has blanked it out or something) but this one time I was playing Tales of Symphonia. I hadn't saved in hours and had made so much progress, did some grinding, and the game froze on me during a cutscene.

I raged.

Body Harvest would crash almost always at the very end of the Java level. Right after you've beaten the big-ass boss. I have no idea what caused the crash, but it happened a lot. Very annoying after plaything through the entire thing.

Oh man, the only way I avoided freezes (and not entirely) was by reading a FAQ that told you how to keep your save file as small as possible. So fucking absurd. Even more absurd that console Skyrim has similar problems all these years later.

Sort of a freeze...

Half-Life 2 on Xbox 360. About two thirds through the game, it autosaves a split second before being runover by a train. I was stupid enough not to have several manual saves, so everytime the autosave loaded I was dead instantly every time. Never did start it again. This is why checkpoints were invented I suppose.

Battlefield 3. In fact I just rage quit a few seconds ago. It freezes pretty much every damn time I play the game.

Funny you should mention that as I've had it freeze up on me at least 5 times in the past week or so. It usually happens just before I respawn, but it has also happened randomly, mid game. The screen just freezes, I can no longer hear party, no game sound etc. This is on a slim 360 btw.

Never had any issues with it before so not sure why it's started doing it now.

I've had a few games freeze on me during review, and twice had saves corrupted due to freezing during review. I can't begin to tell you the immensity of a fuck I couldn't give when Skyrim freezing led to a 54 hour save file corruption when I was playing for review.

the first HL, when coming up the elevator to the outside surroundings.

this was soooooo irritating, that i actually stopped playing the game for several days, before trying again the same run. result? freeze comp :(

then i've tried several ways to unfreeze it, until i came with the weird solution:
before the game stops to load the area, you need to jump. if you time it correctly (took me several tries), you'll be in the air, while the area loads, and then smooth sailing to the next one.

the funny thing is that it happend to me on several different comps, although on some it didn't.

Bulletstorm

Me and a bunch of mates played wave after wave of anarchy trying to get the achievement for 50000 total score. After hours of coop play we finally hit the mark, only for the game to freeze and the server to boot us all out without the achievement popping
Never played the game since!

BioShock used to crash my 1st gen Xbox all the time.
After a while I got used to it.

But the worst offender was Oblivion on the 360.
Sometimes the game would just show the dashboard screen stating that I should insert the Game disk or clean it.

What console does not support resume after opening the tray?!
Even DS consoles support removing the cartridge during play!

My old Japanese 360 was prone to freezing, so there have been countless times where it would lock up while I was having a good run in a game. The absolute worst was in Akai Katana Shin. I was having my best run ever with Type C - I had over 2.1 billion after finishing stage 5, and the game froze as soon as stage 6 started. I almost smashed my 360 to pieces.

Had Kid Icarus freeze on me right after I beat the final boss :P I was playing it through the Wii Virtual Console so I wasn't keeping track of passwords, and the game has multiple endings so I couldn't necessarily look on youtube and see the ending I would have gotten.

The weird thing is it was clearly an in-game freeze, as I could still quit out to the Wii menu and resume...when the 3DS Classics version came out, I played it through in one go, no freeze in sight!

I recently got WRC 2 region free from the UK. In the career mode, middle of season 5 (a lot of races done), probably over 20 hours. I had a freeze/hard lock up glitch over and over.
Had to delete the save and start over. Grind grind grind.

My PS3 froze when I was half way through GTA4. My PS3 ended up dying and I had to send it back to Sony. Lost my save and never gained enough interest back to finish the game.

Pokemon as a kid, i forgot to save after hours of work. I find it very hard to repeat whatever i was doing after that happens.

Yeah I cant remember any particular incidents but I do know that unless I have a savepoint around the corner a game freeze is most likely going to kill that game for me. :( Replaying potentially hours of the same content isnt fun.

EDIT: There was a James Bond game on the PS2, it was actually a pretty good one. It froze on the last mission and then I dont think I had saved for a couple of missions. Totally my fualt but I couldnt bring myself to go through those few missions just to do the last half an hour or so of the game. Kinda sucked in a way. I think that was pre-broadband so I didnt even think to youtube the ending lol.

Its not quite in the same realm but on Halo ODST a achievement required literally playing the game through 4 full sets of Firefight, something that would take like 3 hours solid. Worst of all it had to be done Co-op. I heard many a story of someone's net dying right near the end which would crash the game for all players in the party. That achievement was tied to an in game unlockable people wanted aswell, so brutal.

It was really late and I was into hour 4 of playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 online. I was trying to get 100 kills with one of the crappy Vietnam guns. I had about 30 kills in this one match only for it to freeze just before ending. It cost me a 360 controller too.

Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth on Xbox. About two thirds of the way through, crawling through an air vent on the ship, the game froze. Whatever. I reload and try again. Same thing. Again. Same thing.

I google it, and apparently the solution is this. delete all your save files, and delete the cache and start the game over from the goddamn beginning. I'm reviewing the game for a website... so I start over. Get to the goddamn airvent... and it crashes again. At this point I want to murder someone.

But, I've got to get that review done, and I was enjoying the game other than the fact it keeps crashing on me, so I start over. On the third time through I get past the fucking airvent. Never did finish the game though. I couldn't get past a stealth part on the island after you get locked up in prison and had to throw in the towel.

Fuck that game.

Power cut fried my PS3 and my 80+ hour Demon's Souls save with it... I went back and played another 80+ though.

The prospect of losing my current save along with Dark Souls is really pushing me towards PSN+
