North American Wii/DS Release Schedule (Q1 2009)

You tell me what big titles Nintendo released Q2 and Q3 of this year.

I know you're alluding to Mario Super Sluggers, Wario Land: Shake It, and whatever other meager thing they decided to put on the system, but I find it hilarious that people tend to overlook...

Wii Fit
Mario Kart Wii

Those were the two biggest games of last year, bar none, and they're going to sell more than any next-gen game ever will. And both came out in Q2/Q3 last year. :lol

Next up is NES Super Mario Bros. with Wii Remote jumping action.

That was in one of the very first Wii trailers. :lol I remember because you didn't see the screen, but you saw her do it once and heard the classic jump sound, then it zoomed in on her odd grin and she repeated it multiple times like it was the most awesome noisemaker ever.

It's really mindblowing that NoE's the one who's taking risks on releasing titles now. NoA's been truly coasting. If it weren't for the buggy new release of the American branch of Club Nintendo, I'd be convinced they weren't doing anything at all.

One really tell-tale thing I saw the other day was a brand new, CG-heavy commercial. It featured Mario Kart and Animal Crossing, and at first I thought it was for Nintendo as a whole, including the recent Wii titles. No, it wasn't even that. It was pimping the DS titles, and Nintendogs as well. You know, the DS titles released in 2005. They're making brand new commercials for three-year-old standbys.

I think you can't even count with Fatal Frame 4 for Europe in February. It's still a rumour launched by an ONM UK preview with a "TBA" attached and appearing in play.com's catalog, which is famous for making up almost all their dates for games that might not even exist.

I'm not taking anything as a fact until official PR appears

Lets see what Ill be buying.

January:
Big Bang Mini® 06/01/09 DS
Moon™ 13/01/09 DS
Fire Emblem™: Shadow Dragon 16/01/09 DS

February:
Tenchu™: Shadow Assassins February (should have been released in Jan so I can play something, missed oppurtunity cause there is nothing that interesting to buy for Wii that month)
The House of The Dead: Overkill™ February Wii
Little King's Story 17/02/09 Wii

March:
Pokémon™ Platinum version 22/03/09 DS
Grand Theft Auto™: Chinatown Wars Winter DS

Suikoden Tierkreis Q1 DS
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure Q1 DS

Has Microsoft released their Q1 games list yet. All I can think of is RE5 and Ill buy that only if it gets reviews that blow me away (higher than RE4) as is most of those releases on the list wont be bought otherwise.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but:

Capcom: We Do Have Wii Games For Winter ‘09, Nothing For DS

Nintendo’s press release today listing the Winter 2009 Wii and DS line-up didn’t include any games from major publisher Capcom. Cause for concern?

I just heard from Capcom p.r. and was notified that, yes there will be two Capcom Wii games this coming winter, “Dead Rising: Chop To You Drop” and “Moto GP.”

Unfortunately, the publisher of “Phoenix Wright” and many “Mega Man” games won’t have anything for the DS until Spring.

As for me: Suikoden Tierkreis and strangely, depending on how it turns out, SimAnimals. If it's ANYTHING like SimSafari then count me in! Speaking of which, EA, please?

The fact that there isn't a lot of positive hype here for Broken Sword disappoints me greatly. Tsk tsk GAF!

I'd actually be excited for Pikmin (supposing it has a widescreen mode) if they hadn't removed functionality from the game (GCN controls). Adding new controls is great as long as they don't remove anything from it.

I'm guessing it's too late for Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis (both of which would be must-buys if they were definitive, complete versions with multiple control methods including GCN/classic controllers), but hopefully they don't skimp out with the US version of Jungle Beat and any subsequent Gamecube re-releases.

:lol

I can only assume Nintendo doesn't want people earning a bunch of coins and trying to log on to Club Nintendo to cash them in, hence, they just chose not to release much of anything. I'm pretty bummed that out of that entire list, the only three things that interest me in the slightest are Mad World, Little King's Story, and Flower, Sun, and Rain. I was hoping Punch Out or some of those other October revealed titles would be releasing a bit sooner.

Nintendo better announce some killer shit for summer to make up for GameCube ports.

They'll probably just announce more Gamecube ports once the initial batch have been released. They don't need to make new games not when they have old ones they can shoe horn motion controls on to.

That said I will be part of the problem when Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes are re-released.

Wii Sports Resort was the one game on Wii I was really looking forward to in the Spring.

God dammit.

Um, Spring also includes April and May (spring is March 20 through June 21).

The website itself pretty much takes care of any possibility of that happening.

Marble Saga Kororinpa
The House of The Dead: Overkill
MADWORLD
Flower, Sun, and Rain
Moon
FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: Echoes of Time

+1

Ugh.

I sold my PAL Wii to get a US system due to Nintendo of Australia's complete incompetence, but all of a sudden it seems I would have done better to keep my machine and just import from Europe.

I want Fatal Frame. :(

just hack your wii so you can import euro games for your us wii :p

the process takes fewer than 10 minutes and there's no downside.

My blind faith in Nintendo is wearing thin.

It's fucking sad, This is why you do not want a single winner in the "console war"

I think my only purchase for the Wii next year will be that EA exercise one.

Yeah, I would, but I don't have TP Wii, and that's going to set me back a nice 70-80 bucks. :/

Besides I thought the whole Twilight Hack was stopped by an update from Nintendo?

I don't know if it's been fixed with the 3.4 update, hackers managed to get it working within 8 hours of the 3.3 update in June.

3.4 has a Twilight Hack, but it's recommended to stay on 3.3 or lower, if possible.

Lots of good quality there. Too bad about all the bad reviews for Moon though :(

Yes it is. No wonder there is nothing to play on wii.

what's up NOA?
getting the gc-to-wii conversions is nice but what about the other wii-specific games you failed to release in q4 2008?

[/broken record mode since everyone beat me to it]

EGM said it sucks.

They did? I skimmed through EGM the other day and while I saw it at the very end of the review section there, I don't remember it being a review. I don't remember them saying much of anything about it, really.

Come on now. Early reports are that it's mediocre at best. I doubt there will be flood of A+ reviews for it.

I doubt there will be a flood of 100s, but I don't see why it wouldn't be a solid 7.5/8 game and I really don't remember seeing the EGM thing you're describing. They certainly didn't give it a full review.

What's the point of Square Enix releasing Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time on the DS and not on the Wii at the same time? Isn't the fact that you can play the game on either system supposed to be one of the big features?

...something of a low budget Metroid Prime Hunters...we've seen more imaginative enemy designs in Geometry Wars...top it off with groan inducing dialogue and you've got a solid yawn of a package....consider something with more spirit than a stoned mime.

Maybe it'll turn out OK

Mad World and maybe Mario Tennis are the only buys for me.
Forgot to say for the Wii.

I'll be buying two copies of Pokemon Platinum. :D
So that I can restart one over and over again whenever the urge rises...this is why I always buy both versions when Nintendo releases pairs.

Fire Emblem is a sure thing, too.

Definitely going for Pikmin, but was never interested in Tennis. Bunch of other maybes. Probably Onechanbara.

I think Nintendo is holding a bunch of stuff back for Christmas next year given how the 3rd parties all UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY FAILED this year.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about a lack of Nintendo made games...

....surely it's a good thing that the quality 3rd party titles have room to breathe without being overshadowed by Nintendo software. Isn't that the way it should be? Plenty of good stuff for the 1st quarter IMO..I would assume we can expect the Nintendo stuff like Wii Sports Resort and Punchout around April/May.
