Okay, as I finally have the means to play Bioshock having bought a new laptop, I bought Bioshock yesterday and started playing it today. I have to say I'm seriously underwhelmed. The beginning with the plane crash, entering Rapture etc is really really good, but then it seems to turn into Your Average Corridor Shooter with an above average art style and a bunch of gimmicks. So far I just really have no sense of the narrative - is the game mainly received so well because of that? Or does the actual gameplay get better too?
Another gripe regarding the otherwise decent atmosphere is that everything seems like a pulp comic. I always had assumed it was sort of the realistic side (in terms of depicting the world), but the enemies and their movements are very cartoonish, as is the whole special abilities kind of thing. Seems like I had the wrong expectations then.
But yeah, I just wonder if I should bother putting more time into it if it looks like I'm not liking it too much at this point already - can anyone help me on that? I put slightly more than an hour into it so far.
