Not New Super Mario Bros. video

I think this video is pretty old, but still sweet.

Multi-layer backgrounds, my world is collapsing.

Seriously though, what was with the background hate in the last thread? Old video, but still gets me excited.

Well, the entire graphical style is rather bland and uninspired. That's my issue with the entire game.

Anyone who says Mario Bros. 1 is better than Mario Bros. 3 or SMW is absolutely holding onto nostalgia.

Agreed. The first Super Mario Brothers is very repetitive now.

SMB3 > Any other SMB title... especially Super Mario World.

Please explain. SMW had better mechanics, better level design (and more of them to boot), better audio/visuals than the previous games in the series. You sure it's not nostalgia talking?

SM3 was awesome, but I played it again recently, and though the variety of levels and tons of items is great, SMW as a whole is better. Maybe if they added the ability to go back to levels more than once like in SMW and have tighter controls like SMW, it could have been better. So in conclusion:

SMW>SM3>>SM2>>>>SM1

I actually enjoy smb1 the most, then yoshi's island, then mario 64. Smb3 is cool and all, but its difficulty makes it hard for me to keep a hold of those awesome powerups for too long. TOTAL BUZZKILL. I like the original mario brothers for its simplicity yet still with alot of variety that most games today cant match.

SMW also included a powerup which broke the gameplay.

And this powerup would be?

You sound like one of those who want every sequel to be exactly the same as the original.. How did it break the gameplay? Because some levels were easier if you flew through them? ..wow, you must really hate SMB3 then... the frog-suit really broke the gameplay in the swimming levels, and the P-wing.. omg, the p-wing.. almost returned the game after being forced to use that item.

The P-wing analogy is the accurate one. The feather was like the P-wing, but a standard powerup on (almost) every level. Frog suit analogy is not valid.

Look, I still played through SMW, but the fact that you can bypass 90% of the game without doing any actual platforming will always net the game a lower rank in my Mario hierarchy.

You...you do know that you don't HAVE to get the feather, right?

Then what's the problem? That would be like me complaining about getting the star and being able to whiz through half the level without doing anything.

The star is time limited. And you'd still have to jump.

90 percent???!

Come on. :lol :lol
Fair enough, I was not aiming for accuracy with this percentage. Let's avoid numerical semantics and move on to the abbreviated version.

These are true statements:
1. I like challenging games.
2. SMW is a weaksauce game.

Thusly, I prefer the more challenging mario games over SMW.

By that logic, I hope you love Sunshine (which is a great game, IMO, but wasn't anywhere near as fun as SMW).
Sunshine was an entertaining game with a flawed (understatement) camera. The fludd-less levels were pure secks, but the grossly anticlimactic run-up to the last boss battle and Bowser encounter left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. SMS > SMW though.
