Not only was your T. rex covered in feathers, it couldn't even run... lame.

It could fly though.

And I thought a recent article went back on the feathers?
No, it just showed that T. rex likely had scaly skin on the areas of its body we already thought had scaly skin.

It still likely had a significant coating of feathers based on phylogenetic bracketing.

What does a T rex look like accurately now?

Fake news, like the feathers. Give it a couple of years and we'll get the truth that it could outrun a cheetah.

I mean... 12 MPH is faster than I can run long-term, and as a T-Rex needs to take less steps to equal the amount I do and expend less energy, I feel it'd still catch most humans at the very least.

I'd be scared out of my mind if a T-Rex came after me running that fast. I'd also be dead since I'm not in shape and I would be dead within seconds.

Moving at 12 miles an hour for an animal that size is fucking amazing.

Can't catch me, though. I zig zag.

Zig zagging probably wouldn't be an effective method against a t-rex at 12mph. If you are running faster than that and Zig zagging it would just continue on a forward trajectory and potentially catch up with you because of your Zig zagging.

Nerd.

Somewhere around 35-40mph over short distances. Don't ever try to outrun a bear.

Damn scientists making T-rex's lame. First Pluto and now dinosaurs. What childhood belief are they going to ruin next?
Pterodactyls couldn't fly. They could only glide short distances.

I heard a report literally yesterday that said the T-Rex would top out at 17mph.
A guy was on NPR talking about how despite limb length and muscular advantages, large animals are slower than medium-sized animals because they tire out before they reach their theoretical top speed.
Also, the current thought is that T-Rex was very lightly feathered.

I think in the end what would be the bigger factor is if its a Burst runner or a sustained runner. if it can sustain that 12 mph over distance it would likely catch anything it needed too through persistence.

Of course we do not also know what other dinosaurs could do potentially speed wise. I mean at the Hell Creek fossil bed Triceratops and Edmontosaurus make up to something like 60% of all specimens. Tyrannosaur are close to 25%. So could suggest that Tyrannosaurs had a keen interest in both of those herbivores as far as eating habits.
