Thank you, Cyan, for hosting us. Your work is extremely appreciated.

And to my fellow winners, a final congratulations are in order.

Okay let's do this right.

drive1.gif

First off, I ended on 50,535 words on the 30th November 2013. I wrote 3 novellas:

* Novella 1 [ Muslimah - The Third Year] ~ 16k
* Novella 2 [The Child Destruction] ~ 15.6k [completed]
* Novella 3 [Animalia - (working title)] ~ 18.8k .

Of the three pieces, I finished one. Extract from THE CHILD DESTRUCTION:

(Ending)

So very many people think they are justified in their position. Far too many in my opinion. I wonder how they express their arguments in their own head. Is it as all-over-the-shop like mine? Oh do they print statements like in an essay? I suppose we humans aren’t machines. We’re frail. Some of us more so than others. Some of us are more serious than others. Some of us can laugh off anything. And others cower beneath smiles in their frozen eyes. I’m one of those people. Sometimes I convince myself that I’m like a child in a world far too grown up for me. As if I’m small and lost in a Parisian crowd. Always in my dreams, or shall we say nightmares, I’m running. Instead of running away, I’m trying desperately to get home. Perhaps it is this one thing that gets me through. I’m not running away. I’m running home. Whatever my parents’ failings are, home was safe. And comfortable. Home was not a house. Home was home.
I lost the first house I bought. I lost the first cog of my family in that single blow. And here in this second house, I managed to lose my self too. And tomorrow we move to another house. I hope that house finally becomes a home. And it becomes a beacon for my children, like my home was to me, a shelter where they can in their own way, grow.
I discovered, I suppose, that in our own lives, truly, we can be real heros, and that in essence is the same as being what my father called a real human being.

The End.

Yeeeeeessssss

Thank you for your play. Game over.

Oh and one last thing, @Cyan:
200.gif

Congratulations, everyone!

It was a lot of fun, even if I had to stop as soon as I hit 50k due to other commitments. Still got a ways to go, and already looking forward to next year.

And a thousand thanks as always, Cyan!

Thanks Cyan for doing this! It's been a blast doing this again and seeing so many people push on thru. Cant wait for next year!

Thanks Cyan for putting up with us and keeping all the word count updated.
I'm definitely will try my best to keep on writing (I now am at 55.5k words now) and hopefully publish my stuff out.

Congrats everyone, and amazing 40k in a day joshcryer! Thanks Cyan for the thread and everyone for their words of encouragement and motivation. That's a great boost over last year's winners list and hopefully we can see at least that next year. Happy December everyone.

Congrats to everyone who won and to the rest of you who participated or encouraged us. Big thanks to Cyan for everything you've done for the thread, I'm sure I wasn't the only one looking forward to our congratulations pics. See you next year everyone!

I hope to be around next year with an even better novel!

By far the most I have ever written, all thanks to this thread and all you guys and gals.

I'm hoping I can do this again next year and I'm still writing my novel. Another 20k at least in this draft.

Amazing NaNo thread this year, too, Cyan! Thanks for hosting and for those glorious victory pics!!!

I had a lot of fun this year : ) I didn't think I was going to do it, and flew into it blind. I still have to finish what I ended up with.... but Im really enjoying what I've got so far : D

Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who participated !

Keep writing : )

Best NaNo thread so far. :)

Thanks for everyone for the feedback and support. I'll see you again next year! Or...more appropriately you'll see me again in GAF in like five minutes, blathering on about Doctor Who or Indie sandbox games or whining about how much my writing sucks!

Thank you to Cyan, not just for the great advice, but a fantastic thread that must have been an incredible duty to keep tabs on! I bow to you!

Not comes the fun part of retweaking evertything and rewriting things. Also trying to get an editor to look over my stuff.

I was dreading checking this thread again. I looked at the leaderboard after I'd finished and worked out in my head, at the time, that we'd not match the 36 from last year.

To see 54... holy hell. What a year.

Congrats to everyone who finished. I'll see you all next year. :D

Thanks to everyone here for the motivation and support, and congratulations to everyone who won!

And special thanks to Cyan for a fantastic thread.

Also my first win! And the first time I entered. Flawless!

But now I have to finish it and haven't written anything since hitting the 50k. I'm gonna take a couple more days off, but after that I'm back in the game.

Janury 1st, 100k or a finished story!

It too was my first entry and my first win, and I've also slowed down drastically since the win. I've only done about 2,000 more words, but I can finish by the end of this week for sure.

Figure my story will end around 60,000 words, but I can see it being around 65,000 by the time I'm done with first revisions as there's plenty of parts that I can write more about. My hope is to get this thing self-published (print and digital) by March or April.

Congrats to all the winners! I know it feels good.

I gave up on the 3rd day when we got the news that my Father-in-Law had a brain tumor and was being scheduled for surgery. He's fine now, but that anxiety was a huge damper on my writing motivations.

Congrats to all the winners! :D

I lost motivation at around 10k and couldn't get into it, though. I did learn a few things despite this.

1. Outlining is essential.
2. It's hard to come up with something that you'll love enough to stick with until the end. I lost the drive, and didn't want to keep up with it.
3. School sucks.

If I can take anything away from this, it'll be that I discovered my writing tendencies and I've already got a few new ideas kicking around in this noggin of mine.

I'm going to practice my writing and hopefully be motivated enough next year!

Great job everyone, even to those of you that didn't make it

Props to Cyan for maintaining the thread too; I don't think I would have been motivated enough to continue after that 1 week of laziness if it weren't for that leaderboard

I'm currently thinking about using the createspace winner offer to print my novel again. However, I'm not quite sure regarding publication rights.

It would only be my first draft I'd be printing. But it gets a ISBN and all that. Does that prevent me from getting it published later on after revision?

Just on the off chance that you're not all sick of writing: the new creative writing challenge just went up. Only 1400 words and you've got a week and a half, should be easy after NaNo, yeah?

Anyway, these threads are a typical hangout for writing GAFers through the year. Feel free to chat a bit about writing in there if you feel like it, even if you aren't planning to write a story for the challenge.

But seriously, write a story for the challenge. :P

So it's asking us to create our novel on there...do we just do that and save it for later? We have until June 2014 to take advantage, but most of us aren't actually DONE yet.

You can still work on your novel it seems so yeah since it asks for pdf, doc, docx, rtf files.

Great initiative by CreateSpace, especially havingt the offer to at the end of June 2014. Those novels need some polish!

Congrats everyone who finished (and to those who didn't. You'll get it next time). I didn't enter this time around since I was absolutely swarmed with work, but god damn me if I won't enter next year. A novel shall be written!

Yeah mine does and I'm polishing it now. But I'm also working hard on the outline for the next novel so that can be close to perfection and be able to write it faster when Nano starts again so I got a lot of work to do either way, lol.

Ooooh, gives me an excuse to keep writing or edit now. Didn't like my 2012 material, this year was a bit more fun.

I've been taking a little break from writing, well not writing as much. I've been getting a few hundred words done a day. I want to keep up the habit, but I feel I'm slipping back into the too-tired-to-write mode. I suppose I'm just catching up on lots of non-writing stuff that I let slip.

I am banging away at that creative challenge, 1400 words seems like a walk to the shops after NaNo. It would have seemed like a mountain climb before. Perspective is a weird thing.

I was filling out that Createspace form and hesitated when I reached the "Series" part. I clicked "yes", then named the series.

I realized I have a ton of stories to tell in this alternate Old West and since my character can shift through time and space I can tell Natty Bumpo like "Wild East" stories or Civil War stories and since the title is fairly non-exclusive to my character I can tell stories of his grandfather and parents and great-grandfather.

But I'm thinking: I shouldn't keep writing books in a series if no one is going to publish the first one.

And I guess I'm going to go the Amazon route and self-publish as long as I have to. I don't care - I love this series, I get excited when I sit down to write.

If five people buy a digital copy, that's pretty awesome to me. (and I'm pretty much guaranteed that because I have THAT kind of mom...) :p

Great stuff. I just used the createspace voucher to order two copies of my nano work. It isn't even a 1/3 of the way finished, but I figured it will be a nice way to sit down and read through it to decide if I want to continue.

Wrote 2500 words just now for the first time since hitting te benchmark. I need to keep motivating myself to write this month.

Incredible how much of a motivator NaNo was.

Well, got winner codes I won't use. Can I give them away through Modbot?
