PlayStation.Blog is a bit of work in progress, we see it as a place where we can share with you our company’s collective insights, opinions and perspectives on all things related to SCEA, PlayStation and the industry we play in.

At the moment, we’re thinking about sharing all sorts of things here, ranging from product news and title announcements to developer updates and industry opinion posts – all of which will come straight from the people here inside SCEA who are working, thinking and playing with this stuff everyday.

Now, what we’ve learned, perhaps the hard way, is that a blog like this is really about you and the things you want to hear, share and discuss with us.

LOLZ

I guess we can thank Microsoft for this... Major Neilson as much as I dislike him.. has opened up other's to a level of dialogue we've never had before..

Just so you guys know I think Threespeech is SCEE's mouth piece... So thats why it was so centered on everything in Europe..

HOpefully This new blog will open up SCEA to the people.

This is great!!!! Finally someone to bitch to about the lack of new stuff on the PSN store.

I thought threespeech did that already?

It seems different, in that named SCEA employees are the ones doing the blogging here, seemingly. They have blogs up from a R&D director and a PSN manager, for example. In that regard, it's closer to the model Phil Harrison suggested before, where for example, he thought it might be a nice idea for the XMB team to have their own blog to give people some visibility of what they're doing. This looks like that kind of idea, but for SCEA.

It might be more useful than threespeech..the latter posts stuff from invited journalists or anonymous SCEE community people for the most part, as far as I can tell. This seems a little more direct.

Hey guys What do you say we Spam Playstation.blog with requests for Better Thursday Updates.. Maybe one that actually has a playable DEMO!!!

threespeech am cry :(

Threespeech is based in the UK and is more catered to the PAL crowd, they needed something for the North American PS3 owners, even better would be if they make podcasts available in the Playstation Store...

I think this is good. While you have to filter it, I like a more open Sony like MS. This is certainly a great development, I've always felt that Sony and Nintendo are too shut-off, unlike MS.

Heres what they basically said on the segment ( what I caught )

PSP Going Mobile. Cell phone capabilities coming to PSP to rival iPhone Sony makes deal with T- Mobile. iPhone juggernaut. Sony can get gaming side while iPhone won't. Sony shares up almost a half point today while Apples shares are down more than 2 points.

Just what the world needs, more 'Telling it like it is!' from purposely biased corporations talking out of the side of their mouth.

This is all about control, people. They want to control every possible avenue of your thought process surrounding their products.

Just take a look at who posted it...

wait what?

This and ThreeSpeech (besides it being catered around Europe) are totally different.

This seems more inline with: http://gamerscoreblog.com where people who are actually part of SCEA in one way or another can get involved and share (hopefully new) info.

It's about damn time too. Yet people bitch that Sony is tight lipped, and when they finally try to be more communicative, they still find a reason to bitch.

Before people go crazy... it looks like Their source of information is !!! Blogs..

http://www.cnbc.com/id/19173071/
The news from Sony, first reported in the mainstream press by the New York Post this weekend (though bloggers were speculating about this last week) is the company's patent filing to add cell phone capabilities to a new line of Playstation Portables. Further, the Post reported that Sony has signed a deal with BT Mobile in Europe to offer video chat and messaging to the PSP.

This could potentially be a serious game-changer and give Apple some competition where it wasn't counting on it. For Sony, it's a stroke of genius. Any time you can add "communication" and "connectivity" to a device, it becomes a game-changer. And the development comes none too soon. PSP has run a distant second to Nintendo's DS portable device. The former has sold about 25 million units; the latter over 40 million. Sony needs to inject something very cool into a new line of device that can eclipse Nintendo. A cell phone alone won't do the trick, but a hybrid device that acts as a high-end gaming system; a multimedia music and video download device; as well as a cell phone all wrapped up in a tricked-out package? That's got some possibilities.

"If you look at the Playstation as a platform, it is the strongest in all of video games; if you look at Sony-Ericsson, it's gained a lot of marketshare in Europe because of a few of the unique features it can provide. If you bring both of those together, I think Sony-Ericsson would have a recipe for an excellent device, if it were to come to market, and able to provide games at a level we haven't seen yet," says mobile analyst Evan Wilson at Pacific Crest Securities.

Sony's news comes at an interesting time for the wireless sector. The buzz surrounding Apple's iPhone is bordering on deafening; Research in Motion Research In Motion Ltd just received a $300 million cash infusion from Elevation Partners, the same private equity/venture capital firm that put about the same amount down to buy game developers Bioware and Pandemic. Hmmmmm. That's interesting. Even though the two companies don't have mobile technology (so far as we know) and neither is known for more casual, cell-phone games, Sony's news could propel Palm into a new area of super-smart, game-playing, music-playing, video-playing devices.

Sony executives are downplaying the patent filing today leading some analysts to believe that nothing is imminent. Still, the industry is expecting some kind of details from Sony at next month's E3 trade show in Southern California.

They are all just speculating... on what Sony will announce for the PSP at E3... So guys dont go all crazy..

This is another Gaf >> Internet >> Gaf moment

Oh boy, better late than never I guess. Welcome to the blogging world, Sony, and remember to have fun.

Can you expand upon how you feel this is a bad thing?
I think you need to check his post history with regards to Sony threads b4 to understand why he made that statement

It's about damn time!

I hope they're ready to get flamed because I think there's a lot of stuff that people in the PS3 community need to get off their chest about the PSN updates.

Threespeech is Europe!, for the 14th time.

It doesn't seem like people know this. That and threespeech just needs to say or become, "we are SCEE, this is what's up." None of this corporate veil BS.

Before I forget... Partrick... can we call you Patrick ? Em... are you going to join the GAF Resistance and Warhawk clans ? That way, we at least have someone inside who will push for the updates (any updates !) :D
