While not strictly fact, the analyst must have done some research to come up with the figures and given that this is his job, I'd say they are pretty accurate in the region of 10% statistical error either way.

Are we talking about Pachter or the other guy?

I agree with Windu regarding the shortages. No one really knows the presence of all these laptops, other than the Surface. Let's see how the Pro will fare.

This is a JP Morgan analyst advising on the sales of a tablet of one of the world's biggest tech firms, hell even firms in general. He'll want to have his shit researched very well before he says anything.

It's a guess dude. Don't put any faith in it.

it might be the alcohol talking, but i feel Micrsoft usually goes into these things with genuinely good intentions, but are quite literally tied down by the BoD. It's a damn shame, since I see in management discuss the bs politics or "toe in the water" approach to things that make pure sense to gamers.

As much as the marketing scheme Nehas tried to prove the point its worth, it quite actually dosent. We need to see real diverisity within these products and not from an aesthetic or proprietary stand point.

Fact is Windows 8 was quite unneccessary, it has some really nice features, the interface can be excellent, but the overall tone was, but i paid a shit load of money for windows 7 and i've realized this is relavitely all you need, with a bit more user friendliness in 8 - outside of various hotkey actions. shoe horning in the lastest fades and then making exclusive must haves is fine and all, but dont expect the consmer to gain a remote lack of respect for these tactics if ps4 or 720 pump out just the same?.

Also - if microsoft goes to the temporary exclusibe bullshit again, i am writing them off. We are gamers, not a bunch of a fucking bitches.

Upgrading the OS every 2 year is quite unnecessary to begin with. The whole world knows this, only MS pretend its some kind of yearly refresh.

I hate this argument. Never have I read that people are 'so turned off by Windows 8' that they ignore their other options (Windows 7, or hell you can still get Vista).

This is true. Win7 is still the best desktop OS. And you can still get it, so I wouldn't try and credit Win8 with lower sales of PC's completely. It just perhaps failed to kickstart a spurt of additional sales for that tracking period.

Doesn't really matter what you can buy for the average consumer, it matters what the store is selling. Someone goes into the store and all that is on display are windows 8 machines and the person has a negative reaction to it, 90% of them aren't going to then go find away to order it with windows 7. They'll just go away from the experience saying 'I don't like that laptop'.

It is entirely possible for a negative impression of windows 8 to impact pc sales even though windows 7 is still available.

The PC was never going to come back and I don't think Windows 8 was going to change that. The purpose of Windows 8 is to create relevancy with the rising tablet market and ultimately not get left behind in a strictly PC era. People aren't buying PCs as often anymore and I don't think they ever will.

I'll always have a desktop pc, I like having a large screen, a high performance 3d card, and keyboard and mouse.

That said I can definitely see how the average person can get by using a tablet/smartphone, lets face it, the average person used their pcs this whole time as a facebook/youtube/email/piracy box.

that being said using a retina ipad was neat, and I was surprised about its graphics (even though they really didn't compare to battlefield 3 on my rig). and I can see the value in one, hell I wouldn't mind using one if it could run on a monitor with a mouse/kb as inputs, but because its closed I don't see how much support that setup would have.
