Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Why is my physics score so low?

I'm running a 6700K @ 4.6GHz

UKGAF: is it at all likely that anyone will be selling 1070s for £350, maybe come Autumn or Christmas time?

Unlikely due to brexit. Its likely that the pound will drop further in the coming months, on top of 1070/1080 selling well, i am fully expecting the prices to stay above 350 for this year.

I don't know if anyone remembers me from last week with my CPU cooling issues...I got those taken care of with a Hyper 212 EVO + MX-4 thermal paste...just ran the Fire Strike test for the first time since the new cooler went in and the highest temp I got to was 50 degrees (whew)

my old Fire Strike score was 9530 (Physics was dragging it down, Graphics score was fine)

here's my new result http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12824867 (13,354 Overall...18,592 Graphics)

that's with an i5-4690K (stock) and an EVGA 1070 SC (with the stock OC from the factory)...the better cooling helped me for almost 4,000 total

Has anyone ever ordered directly from Nvidia? What is their service and how quicky do they dispatch?

Thanks

They use Digital River to handle their sales...I know people have bought straight from NVIDIA but I don't do business with any place that uses Digital River after having nothing but issues with them in the past

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I will order from them now. One of the few places that still have stock...damn

you should overclock now that you have a 212 evo, i have the same CPU/cooler setup and i get about 8500 in the physics score, which is about a 15% improvement

I may try that eventually...honestly I'm just glad I got the CPU cooling issue handled (did it myself and it was the first time I ever did something like that so I was nervous)

the 212 is kind of a pain in the ass to mount but you've already done that so the hard part is over

Just played DOOM for a bit.

This thing screams.

I thought people's core speeds were fluctuating like crazy? Never dropped below 2038MHz for me. Temps got to about 72C at 45% fixed fan speed. I might need to set variable fan speeds if it keeps climbing much more, but so far so good. 45% is pretty much inaudible over my case fans which is nice. Framerate was around 130-200 for the most part at 1080p, Ultra settings.

Having a weird issue with DOOM where it's locking itself to 60fps randomly. VSync is off. Wonder if it's a Gsync bug. We'll see if it happens with any other games.

if i run a game and my card is cool, it will go to like 2078mhz, then a few minutes later as my temps rise it will drop and continue to drop to like 2040mhz. i believe that is gpu boost. i ain't really worried about it though.

So I put evga sc bios on my FE. Allowed me to get additional 300mhz on my memory so far for some reason. Now stable at 9000mhz in FireStrike. 19909 graphics score. Gonna keep tweaking until I can get that 20k! Core is maxing out at 2088mhz, don't think it can go any higher than that at least in FireStrike.

Also seems like evgas bios makes the card a bit more stable, no more hard crashes from running firestrike.

My $399 Gigabyte is still in packaging hell heaven from Newegg since 2 days ago. What gives, mateys?

They're doing their annual inventory count. Most ordered placed since Tuesday after 330PM PST won't ship until Friday.

I'm going through the same thing with my 1070 SC. Talked to a rep and got upgraded to next day shipping for free. Since July 4th is Monday. I won't end up getting my card till Wednesday.

Damn.

Gigabyte BIOS is holding me back I think. My temps are still quite low in Firestrike. I never really get any artifacting, just hard crashes if I push it too hard. My memory is limited to around 8900MHz and core at about 2050 (start getting the occasionally black flicker above that...and 2076 can hard crash).

FE or G1?

FE or G1?

G1

Power limit is maxed at 111% in MSI Afterburner. Voltage control doesn't really seem to do anything.

Just read you were talking about Graphics score though, not overall...mine is at 20508...shouldn't yours be higher? Or is it still somewhat CPU dependent?

Probably your upper boost clocks are more stable than mine.

Still I'm pretty impressed with the FE being able to pretty much hang with the aftermarkets, granted with a lot of tweaking.

My 1070 i5 4690k in a tiny hadron case is approaching overall score of my xeon 1231 and heavily OCd 980 ti g1 overall score too, which is crazy. Overall scores are like 14700 for the Hadron ITX and and 15500 for the matx enthoo evolve with the higher end stuff in it.

Yeah the blower coolers aren't such of a handicap anymore. I mean, let's compare my old reference GTX 680 to the GTX 1070:

GTX 680 - 195W
GTX 1070 - 150W

On top of that, the stock GTX 1070 is about 1 inch longer than the GTX 680. It's an absolutely massive heatsink with respect to the heat the card is generating.

The Gigabyte G1 isn't even a very good cooler. Sure, it's 3 fans, but it's only 2 heatpipes. That's pretty paltry compared to the better coolers out there. And it still manages to be pretty damned silent under heavy load with a decent overclock.

I ordered my gigabyte g1 from Amazon June 15th and it still hasn't shipped. The only thing keeping me from cancelling the order is they gave me 20% off and $20 in credit and a free month of prime so final price is $320ish for the card. The wait is killing me.

So I now have 9,200mhz memory on my FE using the EVGA SC BIOS. Awesome.

Broke 20k firestrike. 20,068 graphics score!

Those of you who are cool with BIOS flashing I would highly recommend putting the SC bios on your FE, there's a 1070/1080 Bios thread on the overclock forums for those interested. I could not go above 8,700 memory before putting the new bios on, so I got an additional 500mhz memory! Maybe even more! I am satisfied for now though lol. Samsung are wizards with this GDDR5. My bandwidth is now 294.4 GB/s!

Well I got my 399.99 Gigabyte Windforce OC GTX 1070 in today. So far so good, seeing gains from anywhere to 2x-6x in games and benchmarks over my old Zotac GTX 770, the 6c being in Firestrike Ultra which was heavily VRAM limited on my GTX 770.

The card supports the 0 fan mode at idle so no noise there. At load I've seen the card get up to 71C with boost clocks out the box somewhere between the mid 1800's and low 1900's. The fan's ramped up to 59%, which is about 1980 RPM. At that RPM it is audible over my H115i + case fans, but not particularly loud and not an unpleasant sound.

In terms of coil whine, I have non in real world gaming scenarios. I have experienced some coil whine in things like the old DX 9 3D Mark tests where FPS shoots up into the 1000+ range, but none in any real world gaming scenario so far. My GTX 770 experienced coil whine in the same manner, only at non-realistic scenarios where FPS is in the actual thousands.

That physics score looks correct. Not sure what you were expecting.

What's your memory clock? You're getting 400+ more points than I do, yet your core seems to match mine (well, my current degraded core...).

It's not? It's running around 7600. Not sure why it's showing at 3800 in the photo but, that's half the actual memory clock.

That is underclocked. You should be running at 8000MHz effective and that should be showing ~4000MHz.

I'm hoping to buy one of these on Amazon, because I'm in Australia and it seems like they have the best combo of price and warranty, but these prices are just going further and further up every time I check. Only other option seems to be Newegg AU, which only has out of stock Founder's Editions for $600 before shipping.

At this rate I'm just hoping I can get one in time for Mankind Divided in August.

My memory for the bench was at 8900. I brought it down to 8850 now for stability.

And I guess my issue with the physics score is I was comparing against reviews using an 8 core CPU. My mistake.

Getting the GTX 1070 and playing DOOM has made me realize one thing: I'm not ready to go to an ultra widescreen 1440p monitor. I just can't give up these silky smooth framerates. 60fps just doesn't cut it anymore.

I am waiting still for my 1070 to be shipped by amazon, Doom is the first game I want to play when my card arrives

Playing Doom on my 1070 with even just a 24" 144hz monitor is amazing, I wasnt prepared for how smooth the game would be. Running everything maxed bar AA and getting solid 130-150fps.

I just tried the Doom demo on my 1070. It makes me want to run out and buy a 144hz monitor to truly experience it in its full glory. At 1080p max settings I was getting well over 100 FPS and it just looks so good.

I'm still having so much trouble deciding. Either I get the 1070 for ridiculously comfortable 1080p gaming or I get the 480 for 1080p gaming at a decent level with less bells and whistles but cheaper price tag.

Currently the GTX1070 is $780 for a Gigabyte Founder's model, whereas the RX480 is $449 so almost half the price. I can justify the large 1070 price tag as I'm currently running a 770 4GB model and it'll be one helluva upgrade that I won't need to change anytime soon. I'm comfortable running 1080p gaming and can't see myself changing that anytime soon.

Please help :(
