Well, I have no self control. Just bought the Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming 8GB from NewEgg.
Coming from a 4GB 770 GTX this should be a pretty sweet upgrade.
So whats the downside to getting a card like this against a normal sized card?
The smaller the cooler the harder it needs to work to push the heat off the chip. Means higher temps, more noise and potentially more frequency drops because of thermals. Basically if you don't have any issues with space in your case - you shouldn't get one of these.
Idle temps are around 35C. I think my Gigabyte 760 was around 29 or 30 idle. Is that to be expected?
DOOM demo runs way over 100fps in 1080p, completely smooth once I turn on vsync (can't stand screen tearing). Temps maxed out at 61. Not gonna try to OC.
Do you have an estimated date? I ordered mine on June 14th and it arrived on Tuesday.
get a gsync, then you can turn vsync off and avoid the input lag
I don't think so, but I did change the power settings in the Nvidia control panel from "Best Power" to "Maximize Performance" cause I read to do so in a guide for optimizing ARK.
It seems obvious now that that would do it![]()

Smaller radiator also means no fans off at idle. :\
It looks like a custom bowler style cooler. But sadly none of the reviewers and journalists seem interested in reporting on it.Is the MSI Aero a Founders Edition card or something with better cooling? Either I buy that or go with a EVGA 1070 card

Alright, I'm gonna bite on an MSI 1070. I need my GPU by the 10th.
Should I go for the Gaming 8GB or the Gaming X? Is that $20 extra worth it for a GPU newbie? I read I can probably overclock the Gaming 8GB myself to Gaming X levels, right?
My 70fps overwatch on 60hz monitor seems like unsmooth/jittery scrolling if i watch scenery pass by. Do i need vsync or triple buffering or something?
Newegg finally shipped my Gigabyte card. Does anyone here have an i7-4790K that they pair with the 1070?
Yeah, that's my setup.
You liking your overall performance? Are you doing any CPU or GPU overclocking?
I'll take a look a importing again. I checked Amazon and the cheapest 1070 I could find was still $450-$500USD so wasn't really that cheap. I'm thinking UK would be the better way to go our Aussie dollar is doing well against the pound.Well, have you considered importing your card, I assume you're in Australia with those prices.
A Gigabyte G1 1070 from Amazon or Newegg is AU$600 shipped. A RX480 is about $360. That might affect your decision making. After that it's really up to you, I think a RX480 will still be good for a couple of years at 1080p, maybe 3 years for the 1070.
Seeing as you're coming from a 770, you would probably be happier with the bigger jump up in performance, maybe 100% diff. A RX480 might get you 50%.
What the hell Newegg? Ordered an MSI 1070 GTX on 6/28 and it STILL hasn't shipped yet, been stuck on packaging. What are your experiences?
Just got a notification from Nowinstock that the EVGA SC was in stock. Got in just in time!
LETS GOOO

I definitely think the 1070 will be the better upgrade in pure power. It'll be a substantial increase it I can justify at that price.
Holy moley is the new Gigabyte OC software the most godawful pile of shit I've ever seen. Decided to try it because I have a Gigabyte GPU and wanted easy access to the various modes for testing and it was a terrible, terrible mistake. Couldn't even figure out how to turn on the OSD or if it even had an OSD.
I'll be sticking with MSI Afterburner.
It's so over-designed, it looks like fake software you'd see in a TV show. I don't have the crashing issues that other's are having but it's not a great piece of software; It does what I need though. I was able to set my card into OC mode through it and change the LED to blue which is very important in my completely closed case where I can never see it.

Use nowinstock.com and check all the brands for 1070. Easier that way.
Don't buy from other retailers on Amazon, it'll be a lot more difficult involving a third party if you need to make a return. Plus their prices seem a lot higher across the board than either Amazon/newegg as they seem to be trying to take advantage of the stock shortage.
I haven't checked Amazon UK but they could def be cheaper.
It's double the pixel count. (1527 / 1080) = sqrt(2).Edit: Just found the "Dynamic Super Resolution" setting in GeForce Expereince, but the only option it seems to offer me outside 4K is 2715 x 1527. Is that just the integer scale between 1080p and 4K? I assumed that was 1440p.
just ordered myself a strix 1070 and it should be here in a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yasssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm thinking about installing Forza Apex sometime soon. That's a DX12 game right?
Yes. Good idea, I'm gonna install it too. I've heard it's awful on nvidia, haven't really looked into it much though.
Interested to try MSI Afterburder and Gaming App on my MSI 1070 Gaming X
Can't unlock the Core Voltage slider even from the Settings / Unlock Voltage control & Monitoring.
Is this a feature on the card?

i have the msi gaming x too and it lets me select to unlock voltage but i can't actually adjust the slider. as for my core/memory, i can only get it to +90/+120 before it gets unstable. not sure if that's good or not. temps never pass 70C and haven't seen my fans go past 40%. so i'm guessing it's the voltage that's holding the card back from any more overclocking.
Is 1070 able to play Crysis 1 on maxed 1080p at 60fps? Is the dream finally come true?
Download the beta version of afterburner.
