Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

It's beautiful.

Does it have a backplate?

There is no backplate on it.

Hey guys, just ran a Firestrike benchmark... is this good? First time I ran this thing.

Beats me. I genuinely have no idea. It says my graphics driver isn't approved, which I don't really get because it should be fine, but okay. Maybe that's something to do with it? What was your score?

Posted it above with the link and a snapshot. Maybe I ran it in "custom mode" at 2560x1440. I'm running it now on default settings to see what I get. My current graphics driver isn't approved as well.

Ah. Looks like you paid for your version. I was using the demo which just outputs at normal stuff. Maybe that has something to do with it?

My 2500k is clocked to 4.5 GHz by the way, which is pretty trivial to do.
Mine is running stock speeds for now but I'm hoping to get a new cooler before my 1070 gets here then upgrade the CPU in a few years. It's too expensive to do it all at once.

Still on a HD7950. I really want a 1070GTX

I'm like $200 to my goal from happening. It's almost a matter of time, then I can join the club.

Four years since my last GPU purchase. Almost 10 years ago I had a PC from back in 2007 which I replaced in 2012 had a 9800 GT. and my current 2012 PC had a HD7950, and now going to a 1070 GTX.

All in all it's always been a significant leap each time as I generally don't update but rather outright rebuilt a new PC every 5 to 6 years.

My i5 3570k hasn't given me issues, and I haven't found any significant incentive to move on to Skylake yet, so simply upgrading my GPU to a 1070 GTX should suffice for now.

Would a gtx 1070 be a good fit/upgrade for my system? Or would waiting for a 1060 or grabbing a rx480 make more sense?

Guessing a 1080 would be overkill.

It mostly depends on what resolution and framerate you're going to be playing at. If you're only looking for 1080p 60FPS then an RX480 is probably the best bang for your buck. If you have access to a higher res or framerate, or you're planning to upgrade your monitor, or you want to downsample, or if you're getting a VR thing, then a 1070 or 1080 will become more useful.

Card? Gigabyte Windforce 2X (the $399 card from Newegg).

I'm doing another test right now with +205 and +405 to see if I can remain stable at those clock speeds.

Nice. After the very to me disappointing reveal of the 480 (not because of performance but AMD's decision to do a 6pin instead of 8 and the subsequent power draw issues) I'm looking into the 1070 more and more. But there's no way I'm going to spend upwards or $500 on the ASUS Strix and the like. So it's good to hear the Gigabyte card seems more than adequate.

I have an ASUS MG279Q amazing IPS 1440/144hz monitor I was hoping to be able to use Free-sync with. So I can either go for the 1070 at around $400 or wait for the 490 or higher level card. But who knows when those are coming.

I think the 490/Vega cards should be coming in around November or December this year, but let's see what short of goodies AMD can come up with to compete with 1070/1080. Competition is always good! I would check Newegg on the $399 Gigabyte, btw - they'll go in and out of stock throughout the week.

So is there any particular 1070 that everyone prefers to get that I should wait for? Or is any of the aftermarket ones that are coming out now fine?

Always the dilemma. I may get a 4k tv at some point, but I don't intend to rely on this rig for 4k gaming.

My tv is 120 hz. Passive 3d that I'd like to utilize with downsampling if possble.

Damn the 1070 is pricy in canada, though. Rx480 seems relatively better...if still not great. I wonder if prices will even out over the next month or two...

Has there been any word on a 1060ti coming in the near future? I currently have a 660ti that is serving me well, but I know as this generation continues, I'll have no choice but to upgrade.

Gigabyte has some really good 1070s. The G1 seems to be the most popular.

I've read a lot of good things about the Zotac Amp Edition as well.

Nice I was looking at those. So basically if I just put my name on the backorder list I will get it whenever they have stock? I don't use newegg too much. They won't charge me until it ships?

Newegg doesn't charge until your item is ready to ship. They're pretty good about their stock, so they won't oversell. Looks like they're expecting to get more Gigabyte cards in a few days.

After mulling it over for the past several days, I went ahead and placed an order today for the Zotac AMP! Extreme and I'm going to be returning my FE. The good news is that I ordered it from B&H, so no sales tax. I'm actually going to get out paying less for what I believe to be a better card.
I have the regular amp model and have been extremely happy. Easy overckocking and stays cool.

Thanks! Even though everyone says I am fine I hope my i7 5820k can stand up with one of these cards lol.

Ha, didn't notice that. I should try that one next since I have a 4K panel.

You serious? That CPU can probably last you for 2 or 3 more years. I know I'm sticking with my 4790K for at least a year or two more.

yeah I guess I meant more if I am going to have to mess around with overclocking it

EVGA ACX SC is in stock now for $439.

Pro strat for any Aussies that are still waiting on an Amazon deal: make sure you check out in US Dollars, not AUD. Amazon will automatically suggest AUD, but their conversion rate is a bit of a rip off. I got my order in on an MSI Gaming X and it came to $644 if paying in AUD or $619 in USD. Luckily I was able to cancel the original one and reorder it; every dollar counts :P

I'm on a 5820k, OC to 4.0 on air, and I know it could go a bit higher if I really dig in there (mobo had a simple OC setting)

Bought it specifically because I don't want to have to build a new system for a few years.

My Windforce 2X should be here today!

I've been waiting like three weeks for my Strix to ship. But I see the SC 3.0 is in stock on Amazon. It's a smaller card, which is important for my Fractal Node. Guess I'll go EVGA. I really want the second hdmi port, though. But size is a killer, too :/

Tempted AF. Is that a smaller than average card?

My power is at like +75% / 120 on my Gaming X. Can I use the power consumption stat in monitoring programs to tell if i can turn that back down without affecting the oc?

My plan is to pickup a 1070 today since they are finally trickling into stores. I am looking at the Gaming X and the EVGA SC ACX 3.0, overall which is the better card? I use mini-ITX cases so I do like the EVGA cards since they are smaller usually. It looks like the Gaming X and EVGA SC ACX 3.0 perform pretty closely.

look what came in the mail today.

i love the design of it. cant wait to get off work and try this sucker out. Im upgrading from a 770.

Is a 1070 overkill for 1080p gaming? It seems like 1440 is a big reason for making the jump. But if a cheaper card can run games at 1080 with solid 60+ frame rate is there a reason to splurge on a 1070?

Depends if we're talking 1080/60 or 1080/144. A 1070 tier card is still quite beneficial for the latter. Not to mention, even with a 1080/60 monitor, you can still take advantage of downscaling from 1440p for better IQ.
