Nyko Power Pak triples Wii U gamepad battery life

I reached out to Nyko on their twitter account and they confirmed the power pak would be available in April, but stopped short of giving an exact date.

Just got MH3U and I pretty much need this now. Hopefully it'll be available for order on Amazon again once it actually releases.

...and weight. Remember Iwata was real gung-ho on keeping the weight down. The fact that there was extra space in the battery compartment tells me that Nintendo planned for this.
It probably would have cost them a quarter cent to fill the space with plastic, and that's why they didn't do it.

I started playing Darksiders on my Wu a few days ago, and it's my first game where I really sit with that pad for any significant stretch of time, and I'm finally starting to run into the battery issues. I actually relocated my dock to be behind my couch, so when the thing turns red I can unplug the cord from the dock and just play corded. This pack sure would be nice.

If it were real.

I really hope that this gets released soon since my current pad is hardly holding a charge anymore.

When I got the console I would generally get a good 3-4 hours on a charge but now I'm lucky if an hour goes by before the red light comes on :'(

Wow, it has only been a few months. That sucks.

Does Nintendo sell a replacement battery you could purchase?

What the hell is the deal with this thing? Nyko sells like 50 different products with rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Why is this taking so fucking long to be released?

*sigh*

I don't understand what the deal is.

Please understand.

But seriously, I wonder if Nyko has sent out impending stock notices to any vendors. A day ago my pre-order for this thing on Amazon changed. It no longer has the option to cancel or change payment method. It hasn't charged my card yet, but now is in the "request cancellation" stage that happens just before shipment.

Will report back if Amazon charges for the item.

Did a little snooping and found this recent exchange on Twitter:

I was kind of trying to hold out for this one but looking at their 1980's style online retail store shows that they sell replacement battery covers but no replacement batteries :/

For now I'm just keeping it plugged in most of the time while I'm playing, hopefully that's not making the issue worse.

Oh well that's completely understandable.

(Generally speaking, nothing on Wii U is ever quite ready yet.)

So it turns out most of the inquiries on their Twitter account are about the Power Pak. They keep saying it's been delayed, I'm just trying to figure out why. It's not like this tech is fundamentally different than the other battery packs they sell for every other console (including the Wii U).

I just don't get it.

Anyone try Nyko's UBoost yet? Just wondering if it is worthwhile.

It does what it's supposed to do. It's basically a charger that is attached to the pad. Turn it on when the low battery indicator on the pad is lit. It's nice that it's compatible with the OEM charger dock to recharge it and the pad at the same time. It's compatible with the cradle as well but it's not really needed since it has a built in kickstand.

It's attached to the back and doesn't interfere with my grip so I'm ok with it. The added weight is negligible IMO.

I'm waiting for the power pak as well so I can add even more playing time between charges.

I'll buy this the second it's out, feels like the original battery is always drained or close to when I pick up the controller

You should always (ALWAYS) be picking it up from the charging dock. I definitely think that you shouldn't have to charge it constantly but...these are the cards we were dealt.

I've had this preordered on Amazon for like four months. This past weekend I had to click some links to keep the preorder active otherwise Amazon was going to cancel it.

I came into the thread hoping that there would be some news on it shipping... I am disapoint. :(
