Don't think so pets are much more then "Animals" to people. You raise them, spend money on them, love and etc just like you would a baby. So why are they worthless and able to be thrown away like nothing?

Not sure I would go as far as him but random strangler X does not have greater priority then my dog.

Bingo. I love my pets. Training them, going through lows and highs with them, thinking that I'm giving them a better life than where they were coming from. Kill the random stranger, probably not, but if both were in trouble at the same time, I'd help my dog first most likely. If it were a person from my family or a friend, then things would be different.

A lot of people are quick to judge the cop on what he dead (which I admit isn't the best option); what would you have done in the situation? Since you seem so certain other things are possible. Put yourself (and I mean really) in the cops shoes, imagine what would have happened.

I'd believe my first instinct would be to grab and use whatever is on me that would disable the threat. Don't really have much time to think in those situations.

Dogs usually rush to intimidate without biting. This is EXACTLY what the dog did to the sidewalk lady. You blokes never been around dogs? The cops should have at least tried to taze the dog rather than approach the guy... right after they just saw the dog charge someone else for approaching its owner. They ignore the dude for the whole video, so what was even the point of trying to approach him while the dog was guarding?

Would you shoot a child running at you to protect against the risk of being headbutted in the balls?

The likelihood of a dog attack on an adult male resulting in major bodily harm is minuscule. Let's not even get started on the fact that nobody had even been attacked in this particular instance.

If the dog was stalking a 6-month old child? Sure, understandable preventative measure. This video? Not even close to justifiable.

Yeah bra, pussification of society lol

Woman in Critical Condition after being attacked by two dogs. Had to be airlifted to a major hospital

Google didn't find anything.

This is very NSFW, also very sad to see. The dog dies very slowly and the screaming is heartwrenching. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Now... I understand pitbulls are more prone to kill (bigger jaw muscles and all) but what gets me is that they try to get close to the passed out guy, shoot the dog, let it die slowly, and they don't even TOUCH the guy afterwards to see if he's ok. He's still lying there looking like he's the damn crypt keeper.

Synopsis of video:
Cops try to approach passed out man.
Dog runs around barking at people scared for it's owner.
Cop gets a tad closer and the dog runs toward the cop.
Another cop shoots it. (queue terrible sounds and screaming)
Cops try to damage control as dog periodically moves around.
Guy isn't seen by a single cop during the whole thing.

EDIT: I'm not disputing the actual gunshot. I probably would have done it too from being scared. My problem is what happened afterwards. Dog dying slowly, the man that was SUPPOSED to be the center of attention got no attention in the end.

Bystander:

its pretty silly that everyone thought how they should have "finished" the dog to put him out of misery and dog is now doing better...

... and people saying if they were to chose between their dog and someone else's kid, it would be their dog... thats just sad. Hopefully there is some law that would put them in jail after that.

i think in Germany (or some other European country), aggressive dog species have to wear a muzzle when outside. Why exactly should anyone else have to deal with your animal exactly?

I have a dog, but when a dog charges at you you either react and shoot, or get bitten.
The world ain't perfect, shit happens.

The dog attack could have been prevented, there was so many people around that could have potentially stopped the dog. Of course the adrenaline rush of killing a dog was more important. Stupid scumbag cop.

Yeah all those people around were gonna jump in between the dog and the cop...

An infinite amount of things COULD have happened. But they didn't. Unfortunately the dog charged.

What the fuck? Shooting a dog that isn't even big? I don't understand how some people can defend this shit. Yeah, the dog was getting in the way, but you can simply subdue the dog in some other way without having to shoot him, I almost fucking cried watching the video and I'm an adult by the way.

There is no way to tell at the time whether the dog will even receive help.

All-in-all, the cops are completely at fault. The fuck did they think the dog was going to do? It's panicked and defensive. They should have distracted it first, not piss it off. However, as soon as the dog ran for them, they are justified in making the judgement call to fire. But they are dumbasses for even allowing the situation to reach that point.

Its a bigger tragedy that people care more about the dog and than the guy on the floor.

A dude lying on the ground is less eye-catching and attention-grabbing than a dog being shot and left to writhe, squeal and whimper in pain. Human nature.

lolololol

You continually live down to your poor reputation.

Yes, those stupid bystanders and cops. The true answer is they should have wrestled the dog to the ground. That isn't stupid and dangerous at all.

The way I see it, the police need to get to the guy ASAP. The dog was in the way. They didn't have time to call animal control, they didn't have time to physically beat it into submission, they didn't have time to bait it away with food. The best options to remove the dog were without a doubt tazers, pepper spray, or the gun.

Cops should've used the first two, and they definitely should've done their actual job after dealing with the dog, but ragging on them for dealing with it in the first place is completely wrong.

What sort of dog is it?

I tried to find out by Googling for "star dog shot", but unfortunately I came across an awful story of a dog (also called Star) that was shot 40 times in the head with a pellet gun and buried alive in Malta. :(

There are reports that they did use pepper spray, and they were criticized for that because it makes the dog more aggressive. That's quoted earlier in the thread.

It's easy to sit behind a computer screen and judge the cop, we see it at a different angle and we are not in the same situation. Obviously animal control would have been best, it wasn't there for whatever reason and the dog came at the officer and he shot. What would you expect him to do? Wait and find out to see if he'd get savagely attacked?

The dog was a danger to the public and the police officers. I've had dogs come at me before and I don't have a gun and it can be quite scary sometimes. You don't really know what's going to happen. The cop just didn't want to wait and find out. I don't blame them.

Not everyone is trained to deal with an aggressive animal.

Getting in the way? Not even big? That's a dangerous fucking pit bull. I'm not sure if you've had any experience with these dogs. That cop could have had his hand bitten off.

Have a look at what these dogs are capable of (NSFW).

i have a question for people in law enforcement. do all cops get tasers or just a few cops? i thought only a few cops got tasers? if so then those cops might not of had a taser to tase the dog.
