NYTIMES - Do We Really Hate Anne Hathaway?

I see a bunch of jealous female bloggers mad because she's got too much swag. I love Anne.

Seems she has plenty of male haters as well. I agree that women have a unique way of tearing each other down, but it's not just women having this odd hatred for Hathaway.

I had no idea that there was a dedicated group of people who guess at what they think her personality is off camera just so they can invent reasons to hate her. I'm sure she's crying all the way to the bank.

There's one of these for every celeb, especially female actresses. At this point I couldn't give less fucks except to say that they really try to hate on the most bland inoffensive people now.

People project way too much on someone they've never known.

This is just all manners of "huh?".

Indeed, for some nonfans, Ms. Hathaway seems to embody the archetypal high school drama geek who cannot turn off the eager, girlish persona, even away from the stage. “We love authenticity, that’s why we have a billion reality shows,” said Neal Gabler, an author of several best-selling books on Hollywood culture and history. “And here comes Anne Hathaway. Everything she does seems managed, calculated or rehearsed. Her inauthenticity — or the feeling of her inauthenticity — is now viral.”

WUT

I didn't know there were people who took reality shows on face value. Reality shows are far from reality, and are more a circus freak show.

I'm a Hathahater. The fake humilty and as this article states her "I'm a successful actress" persona she puts on. She's a great actress, so it's easy for me to believe that when in public, she's also acting. I would need to spend some time integrated in her personal life out of the public eye to really see how genuine she is. But since that's not realistic, i'll continue to be disgusted by her until I see some normal human qualities about her.

Why would you hate someone you don't know? Isn't this just another form of bullying? I would feel like shit if everyone around me stated they hated me for no good reason. Why would you do this?

I really hate this article title! An independent panel of psychologists can attest to this.

I don't see what the problem is with her. Sometimes her short-hair-dos look awkward, but I think she's pretty and she sang well in Les Miserables. I don't see what's so hate-able.

Damn I'm happy I don't follow celebrity blogs and culture.

She's the person who would smile in your face and kick the shit with you in school then behind your back tell everyone how much better she is than you.I think more than hate it's distrust stemming from an immature personality, not in that she's a kid but that she has lived a sheltered life.

I hate her short hair but that's about it. She's so bland and innoffensive, I don't see how you can hate her. Apathy, sure, but hate? Meh.

So, you'll continue to hate her, until she shows some human weakness.

And then you'll probably hate her for that, too, if celebrity culture is any indication.

Wonderful thing, human nature is.

This entire "movement" is just pathetic.

Either serious case of Poe's Law or people actually going all conspiracy theorist on her in this thread.
Doesn't that incident also show how much of a bitch she is? She threw a hissy fit because the much prettier Amanda Seyfried wore the same dress as her.

I agree that almost all of her press appears tirelessly rehearsed and she really comes off far too interested in herself by allegedly putting so much time into planning out little moments that don't matter to most people.

I don't hate her, though. She's a good actress.

Really lame excuse for an article. Didn't they have something else they could have written about that actually mattered? lol @ the "Cultural Studies" header at the link in the OP, though I guess it technically fits.

Anne isn't authentic. It is what it is. One only needs to go back to the "It came true" bit during her Oscar speech. The problem arises when people give her more thought than she needs knowing this. Move on.

What?

It's not her looks that people hate, it's her faux humbleness that's overly apparent when giving acceptance speeches. She thanks a dead poet for inspiring the play Les Mis is based on for fuck's sake.

What are you getting at? It's a known fact that pop culture items (actors, especially) rehearse or calculate even the smallest forms of communications. It's rarely known exactly who does it and how much, but it happens.

The film industry is a hot bed for it.

That was a NY Times article, huh? My god, the rise of blogs/Twitter and the decline of printed media has led to some desperate times.

Yes, been saying this for years. This shit would have been laughed into oblivion 10 -15 years ago.
