So has Romney come out and officially stated he is against gay marriage?
Yes.

how dare he curseThe Times They Are a-Changin
"These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage?" Eastwood tells the magazine. "I don't give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We're making a big deal out of things we shouldn't be making a deal out of ... Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."- Clint Eastwood
Yes.
As stated one of the first replies, he finally shamed himself into it. The only reason he didn't do it earlier was because of perceived political reasons - shameful on a topic like this, IMO.
So how long until this isn't an issue anymore? :\
asterix: since he's been running for office.
Good question. What's needed to silence this subject forever? Supreme Court? President can't do anything alone can he?
A Supreme Court ruling is the only way it will happen on a nationwide basis.Supreme Court ruling holding the State Constitutional amendments to be unconstitutional would be a huge step in the direction of overall marriage equality.
And no, the President can't do anything alone.
This always bugs me as I never really see gay advocacy groups coming to the defense of African Americans yet they expect and almost try to shame African Americans into supporting them.

I agree! My point is it is WORSE for a politician who KNOWS better and BELIEVES in better things to oppose equality for political benefit than for a politician to do so honestly.
ivysaur - We COULD have had a presidential candidate come out for equality in 2008, Obama just chose not to fight for our civil right to equal treatment under the law.
Still, I should probably bow out of this thread and let people celebrate.
Independents are stupid, fickle voters who decide the election.

Trying to figure out if that's the most out of touch with reality, crazy, bullshit thing I have ever read. Yes, anyone who is not part of a political party is an idiot. Wow.
If he loses it will be because of the economy.I will vote for Obama in November, but if he loses this election, it will be because of this decision.

Haha, no. The upcoming election will be about one thing and one thing only - the economy. Everything else is noise.

When President Obama was born his parent's marriage was illegal in 22 states.

nah, it's a moot point. If romney attacks obama for supporting gay marriage, obama attacks him for denying gays rights. Either way they pretty much cancel out.
Something crazy I heard today:
Kind of puts this into context for me.
You're giving the general public too much credit.
Yeah, I think making a couple million in one day because of this decision says a lot about how much it might help re-energize excitement among his base for his campaign.Thirdly I understand Obama's election campaign has already raised more than $2 mill since he made the announcement. So this has ignited his supporters and sharpened the campaign.

But as you well know, the presidential election is not a national election. It is a state-by-state slugfest. So that graph . . .which only shows a noisy 50/50, isn't very useful.
I hope they did the state-by-state polling and made an informed choice on this. They are committed now.
I'm not one to deny racism in the gay community, but I can't make heads or tails of what you mean when you talk about gay advocacy groups coming to the defense of African Americans.
?... and Republicans are more for religious rights.
Very interesting, thanks. The southeast is just pitiful. *shakes head.Thought people might find this interesting...a break down of the rights of LGBT people by state:

Basically I wouldn't classify this announcement as news. Its like when Obama announced the end of the war on drugs but has done more raids than Bush.
Gay marriage has nothing to do with 'religious rights', which is what I assume he was questioning.
I was expressing confusion as to what you meant by the bit I quoted.Expand?
