An AR-15 is the civilian version of an M-16. People go on about how the AR-15 isn't an assault rifle because isn't capable of automatic fire, just semi-auto.

I'm in the military, very rarely do we get to shoot full auto. I've only done it once in my 10yr career, and that was in training for a few short bursts. Shooting full auto actually makes you less accurate.

An AR-15 and an M-16 in semi-auto are pretty much the same weapon. It's an assault weapon.
