The latter is a shame, but I thought the first Ace Attorney game was a little on the weaker side, even though Edgeworth is awesome. Still wish it would come over though.
Kay was pretty cool too.
People say that Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is one of the best games in the series.
I thought that it was on par with AAI, but I liked that game a lot.
I agree, I just think that DD pushed it the game logic and coincidences further than it needed to, especially when there were logical routes to the same end.
Man I should really get back to this series. I played the first one and loved it, but never got around to playing the sequels.

Was soo satisfying to finally shut Von Karma up after he was objecting to like every single word Phoenix said for the past few hours. I think that was my favorite moment from the first game.

Would be nice for Capcom to consider localising and releasing it on the the Wii U's eshop as a virtual console title, or just releasing it on the 3DS eshop either way I really want it

You really need to. AA2 has the worst case in the franchise, but also has one of the best in the franchise following right after it. AA3 is regarded as the best in the franchise for good reason. AA4 isn't as good as 3 and some people dislike it, but I thought it was a nice start to a new trilogy. I thought Apollo and Trucy were a great team and the new characters were a lot of fun. AA5 is also pretty mixed as well, but its my personal favorite in the series, even including 3.
I also like AA Investigations as well, mostly because I love Edgeworth.

Okay, that makes me really disappointed we'll probably never get it.

Honestly, I would be completely okay if they did that. I accepted the fact that we'll probably never see physical Ace Attorney releases ever again, but I'd rather have them release all the games (especially AAI2 and DGS) digitally than to not release them at all. Ace Attorney is the only series that Capcom truly has for me now, so I'm willing to take what I can get.
I just really want my Ace Attorney games, man.
On a serious note, Ace Attorney is one of my favorite franchises of all time. I've never been so hooked on an adventure/VN type of game as much the Ace Attorney series.
Even if Justice For All is the weakest AA for me, it still gave me my most memorable case in all of the AA series: Farewell, My Turnabout. That was really wicked of a twist.

The series has yet to balance the duality of Phoenix's character. It makes sense that he comes off to other characters as an asshole mastermind since they are deprived from his silly unconfident inner dialogue. But from the player's perspective it still doesn't work nearly as well as it should.

Yep. The writer clearly intended to do a sibling version of Phoenix and Maya but then fucked it up by having...fans who want everyone to hump everyone.
Trucy should have been the Attorney with Apollo being the assistant is my real problem. She's clearly the better legal brain of the two.

Another (potential) romance was Diego-Mia. AA3 really did tackle lots of romance right there.

What are everyone's thoughts on the spin-off games? I've been playing through both AAI games for the past couple of weeks and I quite like them, but I can't help but be disappointed that you don't actually do any prosecuting in them. Edgeworth is painted as a wandering attorney, basically, or even a gentleman detective like Sherlock Holmes. Everyone's perfectly happy to stand perfectly still and rattle off their testimony for you just out in the street 
I think the AAI games have a real problem with bloating their cases out to ridiculous lengths. The final case in the first one was absurd; I honestly thought I had it all wrapped up by mid-afternoon on a lazy Saturday, but it was past midnight by the time I actually ended up finishing it, and my 3DS battery light was blinking. The 'villain' just slips every punch you throw at him for hours. At one point the game even trolls you by setting you up to think you're going to have to go through another investigation phase, and I swear to God I almost threw my 3DS across the room. I can't say that I didn't enjoy it in its ludicrousness, but man it was a test of patience.
Unfortunately, it feels like pretty much all the cases in AAI2 are of this length, and I just don't think longer is better when it comes to Ace Attorney cases. At some point I just can't hold all the details in my head any more and I want it to be over already. Case 3 was really bad about this; it took me days to get through, and the point where you get a good weaselly villain to feel excited about taking down doesn't happen until right near the very end. 90% of it feels like you're spinning your wheels investigating and rebutting and logicking while you wait for something to happen.
Is Layton vs. Wright worth checking out? It seems to be out of print and extremely rare in PAL land these days, but once I finish AAI2 it'll be the only game in the series I haven't played and I do love Professor Layton games.

I was a sophomore in college when this came out. It was the end of the semester and I was working two jobs on top of schoolwork. One was a seasonal position, which meant I wouldn't be able to go home for the holidays for pretty much the first time, and I lived in the dorms, which close during the holidays, so I had to sleep on a coworker's couch over Christmas break (whenever I had time to sleep, at least).
To cheer myself up/celebrate a bit after finals I traded some stuff in to pick up a new game, and since the DS was the only system I had with me at the time, I focused there. I remembered reading some general good vibes about Phoenix Wright, so I snagged it used.
The entirety of the little amount of free time I had over that break was spent on that couch, under a blanket, playing that game. I was super hooked, and those last two cases were just an emotional roller coaster. Easily one of my favorite franchises ever. Gumshoe is the best character, natch.
I didn't like Apollo much in his own game but I liked him more in AA5.

Probably on account of Athena filling that game's shit-character quota very well on her own. She is just the worst.

This series made me want to become a lawyer. At the very least, it helped me stick through law school, thanks to Mia's exhortations that "You can cry when it's all over." I finished the last "arc" of my career
and it's all thanks to Larry Butz and crazy statues that also tell time.
Any iteration of this series is a Day One purchase for me, although I don't think anything can top AA1-3.

But, the case following it is easily my favorite case in the series.

Definitely worth checking out, especially if you're a fan of both franchises. I had kinda burned out of my super into Layton phase by the time the game finally came out over here, but I still loved it. The trials are pretty great.
I thought the first AAI was neat and was kinda glad they didn't just make it Ace Attorney but as a prosecutor.
Haven't touched Pheonix vs. Layton. I'm not the best at Layton games/

I played the first game for the first time just this past year. Loved it. I'm currently stuck on what people call "the worst case" in AA2. Been there for like three months. Can't push past -_-
Case 2 is definitely the weakest of the bunch, but the rest of the game is definitely worth playing. Especially the DLC case.

Case 2 of DD is the worst case in the series. It is worse than the Circus case straight up, because it also drags on foreeeever but also has batshit stupid logic that, for one of the only times in the series, resulted in me just randomly trying shit with no clue what the correct move was
