Oblivion Coming To the PS3? Again.....

Correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't the seek-time better in a BD-ROM even if it's 2x's? Thus why a lot of dev's *said* it'd be better at streaming??? Maybe I just read that wrong...
The specification sheet for Sony's recently announced BWU-100A PC Blu-ray drive is listed here:
http://news.sel.sony.com/documents/...al/storage_sol_others/BWU_100A_Spec_Sheet.pdf

While the PS3 may not feature exactly the same drive, it will operate at the same speed and should give a very good indication of the seek times to expect:
210 ms (BD-ROM)
170 ms (DVD-ROM)
160 ms (CD-ROM)

For reference, thanks to its 12x drive, the 360's average seek time is 115ms.

Being better for streaming isn't just about having low seek times. It's also very beneficial to not have to seek at all, and data redundancy is the solution for that.

BD-9 Has the same anti piracy measures as BD-25 as far as I know. It is part of the blu-ray spec. Its just Blu-ray put on a DVD.

It has to be a fair bit cheaper than BD-25, or why would Sony feel the need to subsidise production costs on BD-25 to compete with HD-DVD costs?

Since the format is new, recorders aren't widely available, they cost a lot and the writable support isn't as cheap as a DVD9,piracy is definetly discouraged compared to DVD9.
Anyway it doesn't matter as Sony for whatever reason has decided that all games will be on Blu Ray anyway. No DVD.

Edit:Oh sorry you were talking about BR9,I didn't even know discs of that size existed:lol :lol 25 and 50GB are the only versions I hear about.
But Sony of course is pushing over extra space and extra contents.

BD-9 IS Blu-Ray. Sony never mentioned it being red or blue laser blu-ray. Anyway, as I said, it only takes one blu-ray reader and someone clever enough to rip the game to under 9 gigs.

Anyway, we`ll see.

(red laser blu-ray, what a messed up concept!)

Blame Warner, it's their fault. And yes, it is a red laser format based on DVD's physical specifications.

There hasn't been any actual confirmation that it exists in the current spec though (it only went so far as being publically 'accepted' by the BDA, not implemented), and considering the Warner exec who insisted on its existence has stepped down, it may well never have come to pass.

1) Snatches posts a release list (and he's got the access, believe me) that says Oblivion Nov 6th

2) Gamestop posts a listing for the game on the exact same day.

3) I've actually gotten a confirmation it's happening from a good friend.

So, it's looking good for the RPG of the Year being available at launch. This November is going to hurt so bad.

On the other hand...

Hmmm. It will probably happen, but I'll file this under "unsubstantiated rumors" for now.

GRAW hasn't been officially announced yet and we all know its going to be a launch or near-launch PS3 title. This has happened too often, I'd say if this isn't a shoo-in nothing is.

I own Oblivion on PC anyway, but I'd be all over a PSP title.

A man can dream.

Just dream that it's a real RPG. Oblivion is a great Adventure game but I really want an RPG made in that manner. Mmmm... Fallout 3...

As long as Fallout 3 offers the huge world of Oblivion with an actual plot and characters (along with choices and consquences) I don't care about much else. Of course, I've only played a few hours of Fallout 2 so I don't have much of an attatchment to the series. I just want a new RPG and all I see on the horizon are Fable 2 and Mass Effect.

rejoice PS3 owners , for verily, you are in for a treat (DON'T listen to the haters , they are wrong - and usually smell funny/have eyes pointing in the wrong direction/bent teeth)

I say bring it on. The more neophytes introduced to the Elder Scrolls universe, the better.

However, I personally doubt the validity of this. Year old ports historically have not sold well, even as launch titles. Besides, Vark is slavishly devoted to Microsoft, and word is he suckles at the teat of Bill Gates.

However, one rarely sees enough Attractions riding more optimal routes.

Don't aggrivate everyone! Definite release anticipated , stop creating unnecessary miscontent.

It is only 9 months away from when Oblivion first came out. And, because it's coming during the holiday season, it could actually outsell the first one. There should be 2 million PS3s out there, I wouldn't be surprised if this was able to sell to half those people.

Sales bets? 500 000 copies during the first three months(several early buyers will already have it elsewhere I would think).
Over 1 million during it's lifetime.

:lol :lol :lol

I'll go out on a limb and say there's no chance in hell the PS3 version (if it exists) outsells the xbox 360 version. No way at all.

I don't really know anything about the business side of gaming, but it seems like if Oblivion was able to sell a few hundred thousand copies on the PS3 it would be a huge boost for Bethesda. It can't cost too much to port it over. And those fans, presumably "new" fans who don't already own it on the X360 or PC, would love the title and be excited about future Bethesda games. I mean, why wouldn't this happen? It's the same logic as Assassin's Creed going to the X360. We all knew it was going to happen because it's too damn logical not to be multiplatform.

Ya pretty much. They've done 90% of the hard work already in coming up with all the art, game scenarios, game logic etc. And since the game is running on PC and 360 it's obviously got a pretty solid tech foundation. All they'll have to do is replace the lowest layer of their tech with some PS3 specific things, and they're good to go.

I just hope it's not a straight port. Let see some friicken content stuffed in that extra 30 gigs of space.

uh, did you not see Vark's post? Free horse armor!

Just a thought...Oblivion has more content than the vast majority of games you're likely to see next generation.

It's more more content than most people will ever see. Which is why it's funny that people download more stuff when they haven't finished the old stuff. It's like ordering my ice cream when after two licks.

It's pathological.
