Obsession Teaser Trailer (2026)

I don't understand why people need everything spoonfed these days. It's very easy to make up imaginative reasons as to why things are certain ways with the OWW. But some get stuck on "plotholes" that they can't think their way around and lose all sense of immersion.

agreed - gone are the days where movies left a lot unsaid - classics like Rosemary's Baby are a great example - you are told just enough to be intrigued who the cult is and what their goals are but they never explicitly explain things. Same with some modern movies like Hereditary for example.

Guys, quit suggesting changes to Obsession that we've seen a million times before. "Ian's wish also goes wrong" "The store Bear bought the One Wish Willow at disappears when he goes back".

Part of the reason the movie did so well is it doesn't do the obvious stuff. It's subversive but because it wants to be entertaining--not just for the sake of it.

Although the hospital turning Nikki away when she had a massive headwound makes no sense.

Just saw it. After finishing the movie I feel I just saw a 10/10 movie and I can't recall which movie I last gave 10/10 to. It was just perfect in everything. Totally lived upto the massive hype. Deserves every success its got.

Yeah, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Nikki's actress was really great, photography was nice, some deaths were awesome.

But I don't think it's some innovative concept like Backrooms is, for example (haven't watched it yet)

It's ok, very fun movie. Crazy to think that it has grossed more than $400M tho.

She did a very nice job. I felt her acting pulling on my heart strings.
I want to know where that came from.
director got the best girl without having to meet some checklist handed to him by studio execs and she has an expressive face not paralyzed by botox. Match made in heaven!

She's not bad in Trap House, the only other thing I think I've seen her in. Shes got good on camera charisma and a very natural acting style.

Her weeping really got to me. It reminded of pain I've felt and witnessed in person.
It was almost haunting.

Yeah, I watch a lot of slasher horror flicks and she brought a new level to the scream queen role. Hope she gets her shot.
Laurie 2.0 or ( Jamie Lee Curtis 2.0)
Back when I saw Halloween II and every time she screamed I got scared, lol. First watch, though and I was alone. Watching that shit at 7 years old. LMAO.

Second watch was even better. I noticed the soundtrack more (it's really great) and the use of shadows on Nikki's face felt more deliberate than me thinking the movie is too dark.

Ehhhh, yeah ... that isn't enough for me considering the huge role this plot device has. They're rare, but there's a whole box of them just sitting there as soon as the characters need them and the main character googles them and finds information and people debating about them easily within 10 seconds. Doesn't seem believably "rare". We get three wish pops in the movie and they ALWAYS worked without question and even the store clerk behaves like it's just normal ("he already got his wish"). Like WTF. Again, something like this would've instantantly become known in today's world, streamers/youtubers would literally make make videos on them to investigate, call numbers etc.

It just doesn't work for me. The movie is at its best when that stuff is in the background and yet, the whole movie relies on it, so it is impossible to ignore. It would've been better if the main character would've found some random shit in a dumpster or something, made the wish as a hail mary/joke and it was never spoken of again. Definitely not support hotlines/internet searches or some other unnecessary elements drawing attention to such a thing. Something like Death Note does the whole mysterious object thing a lot better, they should've copied that, minus the Shinigami. My 2 cents.
Here's how i explained it.

The store clerks and anyone selling this thing are on it. They are in some kind of cult or something. Fully organized with a hotline and all.

But this is still a new thing. It hasn't caught on/discovered yet. Maybe they just got into circulation a week before Bear discovers them and is among the first batch of users. So the rest of the users maybe haven't got to the "monkey paw" part of their wish yet. Some maybe haven't realized their wish is granted or maybe it takes time depending on their wish. Some probably ended up dead before being able to post publicly about their experience.

But even if someone does manage to warn the world about it, would you believe it? Let's say this thing exists and some people are posting about it being real. You would think it's fake or a creepypasta or something. It would take a lot of time and a lot of victims for the world to take it seriously.

Also, they are "rare" and "collectables" not because they are indeed rare or old, they are just marketed that way, kinda like modern pokemon cards. Or a product with a limited release, which would make many people hoard them without using them.

So yeah, maybe Bear is one of the first majorly affected victims and a few months after the movie's events and with enough people being affected, this thing gets discovered and the world goes crazy over it, like you would expect in a realistic scenario.

His downfall was fairly immediate?
Not really due to his wish though. Was his house full of money at that point? Were the cops coming after him? Gangsters?

Seemed like he was just "wrong place, wrong time" and if he had come just a few minutes later perhaps he could have slunk away to live life as a playboy.

Misinterpreted you post. I get you now. I'd actually think that would be a good "what if "sequel. No way would a billion dollar in cash have worked out.

I actually can't think of a wish that would. Reminds me of the twilight zone movie and the kid with unlimited wishes

Well, get the right kid and the wish will be 10 pages long covering every possible continegency.

"I wish for the regeneration powers of Wolverine as depicted in issue #254 of The Avengers but I can cancel them at any time and I won't have the vulnerabilities seen in issue #356, #20 of New Avengers, or #455 of Wolverine" :P

If i remember correctly he just wished for unlimited wishes. Doesn't work out

I was high I while ago and settled on wishing there was only one religion in the world but then you'd just have nutters blowing up atheists. Currently leaning towards Dogs being able to talk.

Maybe, decent theory, but you misunderstand the point of my critique and my grievances. I was poking holes in the world building precisely to illustrate that point. I'm not looking for head cannons and possible made up justifications or lack the imagination to construct such scenarios myself, I'm simply saying that the whole wish thing was executed poorly in the movie and the more it is present, the more it detracts from the point of the film, which as the "Obsession" title implies is the characters and the relationships/shenanigans between them.

The movie presents a half baked idea or plot device that only adds unnecessary questions and bloat to the main concept. Even if you try to explain it away (which shouldn't be your job as the viewer to do mental gymnastics to begin with for such an important plot point that is front and center), it simply does nothing for the movie.

Of course, this is my own subjective take, but when people praise this movie, I've never seen them praise the wishing aspect. They care about the actors, the performances, the craziness between them, they comments on what they thing about how the characters behave, who's the villain, right and wrong etc. Which just further shows how superfluous that whole aspect is and how the movie's focus on it detracts from what makes the movie good.

She's also a regular in Superman & Lois but the downside is you have to watch Superman & Lois. But if you enjoy teen drama then good news: she's in all 4 seasons.

I just googled the show to double check how many seasons it had and Google has her billed before the main cast :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Won't lie that she's one of the reasons why I started watching Superman & Lois. ;) She looks way younger in that show, basically still like a highschool kid. But judging by the fact that the show is not that old it's probably the clothes and the hair to make her look more like a teenager.

I'm after about 7 or 8 episodes and the Superman fighting villains and saving people bits are very cool, but the family / teenager drama can get a bit annoying in some episodes. Doesn't help that one of the kid actors is just awful and can't act.

The sad and funny thing is that this was one of the better CW D.C. shows lol.

That broke my heart but here's the heavy reveal

I have low grade/quiet BPD. And please don't judge me but fuck me i don't think it was their intention but Bear's victim screaming that it's not her and she wants out is what it felt like hardcore before I sought treatment.

I saw myself being crazy

I know it wasn't me

I know this isn't my normal behavior

I don't want to hurt anyone

I can tell you that her behavior was like me during my breakdowns where I was going overboard and JUST COULDN'T FUCKING STOP ITS FUCKING HORRIFYING!

After several years of therapy, some medication, getting my ADHD diagnosed and regulated and most importantly - learning to be normal and walk away, not engage emotions and just say "I need some fucking space!" I don't have nearly the same issues.

But this movie triggered me, yes triggered, me that I saw myself and felt like reaching out to anyone I did that around. Granted low grade makes you introverted and more hateful for yourself the outward can come out badly still even if not at the same level of those with BPD you read about.

Families always been able to call me and not have to hear about the past for instance. But I still people please but because I want too and not because I'm afraid you'll not be my friend anymore or some shit.
