Octopath traveler or triangle strategy?

Octopath Traveler. Just an incredibly fun and deep JRPG. Grabbed me from the moment I began and never let go until I beated the final boss.

Triangle strategy for me no question, I don't believe they are quite similar besides visuals. Triangle strategy is more in line with ff tactics or tactic ogre while octopath is more similar to a mainline early final fantasy or other standard jrpg.

We get a lot less games like triangle strategy so that is why it may have grabbed me more

They aren't similar at all really. One is a turn based jrpg, while the other is a very story heavy tactical rpg.

Hugely different experiences.

I'd go for Triangle Stratrgy though.

Case closed! Thanks for this. I really appreciate all your comments 🐱.

Triangle Strategy. The tactical combat is fun and challenging, and the story is a lot better than that of Octopath.

Just be warned it's very story heavy so be prepared for A LOT of cutscenes.

Related; Triangle is deep enough even without classes?
In my opinion yes because it has really nice map design and you get variety of characters with unique abilities and even on your first playthrough you wont get all the characters.

I think the lack of a class system actually helps balance the game, since each character is basically an exclusive class, you can't just pull a FFT and make everyone lancers to cheese a level, you have to find synergies between the characters you bring to the fight.

I choose Triangle Strategy, but I love both. Octopath Traveller has a hell of a battle system and the music is legendary.

Triangle Strategy is definitely worth a look. Not completely finished yet, but from what I could see, it brings back good memories of the great Tactical era.

Octopath has its charm too, but I'll recommend Triangle first.

We felt a bit lonely (and old) enjoying it and playing it as a priority during other big releases..

I'm surprised to see so many folks say triangle strategy. I enjoyed octopath, but guess triangle strategy will be added to my list of games to get...

How long is triangle strategy? I need to have my plate clear before I jump into Xenoblade 3 at the end of next month

Just finished Octopath. It was a perfectly "fine" game that I put 62 hours into, and the story was a giant pile of meh. Just a collection of mini-episodes, really. It was still fun, but at the same time nothing special. Triangle looks great, - may have to pick it up.

Yeah Octopath has cool combat and really nice music but the story was a massive disappointment to me.
Triangle on the other hand really surprised me with its plot. Felt more grounded and a bit more mature than the usual JRPG, it has some really hard decisions and every time I thought it would hit me with some anime cliche it surprised me by going in a different direction.

I don't like Tactic/strategy battle systems, so don't care for Triangle Strategy.

Octopath is a fantastic JRPG with a very fun combat system and other interesting mechanics.

If you like turn based jprg's then octopath.

If you like tactical/strategy = triangle strategy

Tactical rpg's are my favourite genre

Say, FFT and Tactics Ogre are amongst my preferred games so I guess I really take a look to Triangle right? It happens to release with Elden Ring and my subscription to Gamepass so I put it for later, moreover that they started to release Squenix titles on GP. Paying 92$ CDN for a Switch game is a bit much in my book.

My first experience with tactical was vagrant story. Great game but I recall the ending being unfinished? Or maybe it was one of those games that had different endings and both times I got the bad one haha. I went to dive into triangle strategy but I'm wary as I bought fire emblem: 3 houses and did not finish it ( I was enjoying it but it got to a point where it felt like work). I'm actually really looking forward to Digimon survive as I've always liked the series and it's set as a tactical game. I'm sure it won't have the same level of depth as triangle but here's hoping it's enjoyable enough.

Triangle Strategy has a much better and well written story with great characters (Benedict is a straight up G) and is a strategy RPG in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics. The soundtrack is also excellent.

Octopath is a more streamlined RPG with a really fun battle system but a poor story due to all the playable characters having no relevance with each other (iirc).

Ultimately, I would say to get both, but if I had to choose I would say Triangle.

I played Octopath, but it got kinda boring. I didn't get Triangle due to how similar they came off in development. I much rather have the game it's trying to imitate? Not to sound offputting, but I tend to stick with older strategy games. I almost bought Triangle for $50 USD, but decided against it. Maybe someday. I wouldn't go back to Octopath.

You get it.

Fun combat will always trump boring strategy games. Keep it fun simple and engaging in it's simplicity.

Also I hate Chess games. Probably why Triangle Strategy doesn't appeal to me and why FF Tactics has a great story by Matsuno and great music and not much else(GILGAMESH isn't even in it anyway). Vagrant Story was more my jam.

Octopath is amazing for the same reason Bravely Default is amazing. It does what it does well and the gameplay loop feels good. Octopath like BDFF1 feels like your classic Final Fantasy experience and I love it for that reason.

Do you like mainline Final Fantasy or Final Fantasy Tactics more?
Octopath is a traditional rpg while Triangle Strategy is a strategy rpg, so whichever of those genres you feel like playing, go with that. For me personally, I enjoyed what I played of Triangle Strategy more.

I'm not big on Strategy RPGs so my vote doesn't hold water with that being said, Octopath has the best RPG battlesystem I have ever played. The Boost system is a joy.
