Oculus Rift version of Minecraft cancelled?

A moron who has made the most successful indie game on the planet?

Morons can do great things. But hearing him speak his mind and truthful is nauseating. His response says he was looking for any way out of having more work to do. He has made his money and doesn't give two shits about supporting what he created more than the absolute bare minimum. He is the one who says Steam is evil because it's DRM and has his fucking game on Xbox Live and PSN. Total hypocrite and an absolute fucking moron.

Why would a minecraft on VR matter its merely a niche device anyway and going by the demographic that plays minecraft I don't think they would all be out in droves spending $300+ on a peripheral. Whatever version of minecraft was intended for oculus I'm sure it would have been released on other platforms anyway.

And nothing of value was lost. You can play Minecraft on Oculus already, no sense in notch making a version specifically tailored toward VR if it would be stripped down and free, like he said it would be in his blog post.

The promise of the future is what makes it a really large title. A HUGE amount of people play Minecraft. That's market expansion.

There is a huge issue with my argument, though: console compatibility.
If the OR can be used on a console, we're looking at a prime game to use to demonstrate the possibilities. If it cannot be used on a console, then ignore my post and call me a bum. lol

Notch is a weird dude, rails about open systems, releases minecraft on iOS.

*shrug* he feels how he feels and does what he does, but I can't be bothered to pay attention.

Good. Good!

Notch can do what the fuck he wants, if he does not think facebook will do good things to Oculus he can cancel whatever work Mojang is doing in regards to them.
The attacks against him in this thread are completely childish and stupid.

What's so bad about Facebook?

Every member here on GAF knows its a social platform and how that sort of thing ruins hard-core experiences. Social + Online + Large Corporation + Advertising: Facebook represents everything we don't want in gaming.

No more childish than his ignorant ideals and complete hypocrisy he constantly shows. At least those that criticize him have big fucking reasons to. He is constantly changing his stance and opening his mind to one evil while shutting another out.

In short. He's a fucking moron and people with some coherence can see that.

I don't really like Facebook either, I like Notch, but, I mean, come on. His opinions on matters like this are so underdeveloped and immature (and hypocritical).

Pot calling the kettle.

He listed why he is canceling the project in his blog post and it seems very reasonable.
Unlike the brainless hate train some people are on.

Pot calling the kettle.

At least I'm consistent. ;)

It may seem reasonable to you for a man to be a hypocrite but I and many others are able to see through BS excuses and label a man what he truly is.

Looking at facts, you would be the one on a blind train.

Keep on telling yourself that.
Notch made it clear in his blog post that he does not support this move due to how he thinks facebook only cares about the number of facebook users and fears in regards to what they will do to Oculus to push that agenda.
Nothing there makes him a hypocrite!

With his history of hypocritical statements I don't know when to take him at his word. He railed against MS for the Windows 8 store yet is cozy with them in one of the most walled off gardens in existence. He bashes Steam for being DRM yet his game is on IOS and Live.

Here he says he doesn't like this move because Facebook creeps him out. It's laughable and the reasoning he goes further into is even moreso. He was fired up and ready to get into OR development but after the Facebook purchase he goes off on a rant about how he hates something else without knowing the possibilities or repercussions that lie within. Just blind hate towards something he happens to not like.

Looking at this, he was trying to get out of doing anything VR related because he thought it didn't fit the platform due to it being java and GUI heavy. That is simply a petty excuse for saying, "I don't feel like doing this as it requires a lot of work". This was his golden ticket out. I'm glad he got to do it in a way that further portrays him as a one hit wonder and endless hypocrisy and a large following of people that will take whatever he says as ultimate truth without being able to connect the dots in their heads that he is full of shit. Ignorance is bliss.

None of that makes him a hypocrite!
The Windows 8 store is not like any other store, it is a store with it's own, new APIs built into a system that has always been open!
iOS and the Xbox have never been open platforms on the other hand and thus there is not the threat of them eating out the platform from the inside!

This quote from engadget also proves that fears about facebook buying them are not even close to "blind"!
Update: We're on the call now, and Mark Zuckerberg is already pointing out Facebook's acquisition of Instagram as an example of how the company is getting experience buying properties and allowing them to continue to operate independently. Zuckerberg called out virtual reality as one of the computing platforms of the future -- following desktops and mobile -- and yes, talked about building Facebook's advertising into it. Specifically, he talked about the potential of a virtual communication network, buying virtual goods, and down the line, advertising.

Sorry for this off-topic post, but I had to share my feelings.

After reading this post, I found that Notch is worth $150M from Minecraft. That is four times as much as Kim Kardashian. All is right in the world.

I dint blame him, but at the same time, he also won't develop on Nintendo hardware and there's no excuse there at all.

He is really picky.

$150 million is a lot more than a lot of celebrities, believe it or not.

3DS would likely have a hard time having a worthwhile port of minecraft due to it's lack of power and the WiiU, well you do not have to have a PHD to figure why it is not coming out for it.

He'll come back if there's money to be made. Minecraft is on everything. If Oculus catches on and I think it stands more of a chance with fb backing it, then yeah he'll be back.

The most powerful thing in the world is fuck you money. Notch isn't doing anything he doesn't want to, nor should he.

What a petulant child.

Google does everything "creepy" Facebook does and then some, but I don't see Notch's morality stopping him from rolling in Minecraft PE money on the Play Store.

I guess I'll just keep my copy of Oculus Minecraft next to my copy of Psychonauts 2. Thank you Notched.

This is stupid.
I know hes punk rock indie.
But there is no other reason for him to say this than to contribute negativity to the conversation. He doesn't have anything to say. He was "in talks" to maybe bring a version of his game to this platform. And now he's publicly saying he's creeped out because Facebook also happens to run Facebook.com. Childish. He didn't have a deal, he didn't get slighted, there was no solidarity Occulus somehow betrayed. This is just someone wanting to be a part of the conversation for the sake of it. He should be ridiculed for treating his audience to such pig-headedness.
No. This is how the most unethical companies should be dealt with. It's the same reason I don't shop at Walmart.

Brilliant marketing. By shitting on Facebook he makes Minecraft even more appealing to the young and lucrative demographic (teens and early 20's) that already doesn't like the social network. Notch knows what he's doing.
