Oddworld on PS+ will NOT be crossbuy (paid version is)

Sony says you are offered once per month:

2 PS4 games
2 PS3 games
2 PSVita games

Nothing more. If some of those titles have cross-buy active it is a bonus.

Think of this in a simpler way:

The six games you are offered each month are like Birthday cake! Really good and awesome to receive.

Any of those games with cross-buy active is the FROSTING on that same cake. WOW! Super tasty and even more awesome!

Understand?

While technically true, the point is we have gotten very used to that icing as it has been the norm 99% off the time. The worry now is that if they start taking it away it will become more and more common to take it away and we are left without the tasty icing we all enjoy.

Yep, exactly. I love crossbuy and hope this doesn't become the precedent that leads to it no longer being included with the Plus games.

The thing is this has happened mutliple times before, it's not the first or the last time it's going to happen. we got crossbuy games this time anyway so a few games not being crossbuy isn't a concern and probably won't be the norm.

What he seems to he saying is that every single time a crossbuy game has been on plus we got all the versions and now all of a sudden we dont. He is worried that this is going to become the norm and is trying to call attention to it so this new policy isn't snuck under our noses.

You guys are exactly right, they aren't REQUIRED to make the crossbuy versions free also but they always have and I think we would all prefer they continue to.

People getting upset is really the only thing that can stop it. If people dont care because it doesn't affect them, then they will just go ahead with it.

I agree with you completely, and of course I would way rather have four PS4 games a month instead of two.

The problem is only the way he's going about it. He's not getting "upset" and he's presenting literally no argument at all which could compel someone to think that actually, they should be getting these games. Just the same thing about "crossbuy is a feature of the game" which is not only completely untrue, but you haven't even bought the game if you've subscribed to PS+ so crossbuy couldn't possibly apply as standard.

If there's an argument for getting crossbuy games on PS+, he needs to go and find out what it is and then we can have a discussion because until then, you can have a problem with this, but you can't argue that it's wrong.

I bought Madden 15 on PS4, can't believe it didn't come with the Xbox One version. Fucking EA, selling me this incomplete game.

What a terrible post. Living up to the tag I see.

If it said the above and shows up in the webstore as purchased (live every other PS plus game) then the OP is right. Even if I totally understand the counter argument. Realistically Sony should just be clear one way or the other so people know where they stand on Plus cross-buy.

Myself, I bought it. Regret it because it's a horrible remake though. This matthewmatosis video explains the problems very well. Guess I get the Vita version to not download in the future, yay.

Yep, I'm going to go ahead and assume this is now the norm. Always seemed like an unintended "side effect" of their cross-buy strategy.

The whole point of cross-buy is to act as an extra incentive to pony up and buy a game. If a game is released on PSPlus, then the game's dev/publisher may not be ok with cross-buy being active since they'll feel like they're losing more on the deal.

How many people would really buy multiple copies of a game? I would say a very small minority. It might be many here on GAF, but we should remember we are all very much enthusiasts and not your average game.

If I buy game X for the PS4 and it has cross buy with the Vita, awesome I will very probably be playing some of it on the go, depending on the game of course.

If I buy game Y for the PS4 and it does NOT have cross buy. The likelihood of me buying the vita version to play it on the road is minuscule.

I would wager that they hardly loose out by offering cross buy.

Right, so you're kind of agreeing with me :p

What I'm saying is that cross-buy is seen as a big incentive for users paying for the game, and an unnecessary bonus for users getting the game for free as part of the PSPlus subscription.

So, to go along with your example:

- Game X is available on PS4 and Vita, with cross buy
- You're interested in Game X, but not enough to buy it
- Game X gets offered for PS4 as part of PSPlus, without Vita version
- You download Game X, end up loving it
- You pay for the game on Vita to have it on the go

If cross buy is active for Game X, the publisher would never get that payment for the Vita version. If you don't buy the Vita version, then the publisher doesn't feel like they lost anything.

Yea I can see that scenario in principle, it would be incredibly rare though.
I cannot think of single game for which I would have taken that course of action.

What I do regularly do is buy DLC for PS+ games that I enjoyed! Eg. Guacameele. I bought all the DLC because I enjoyed the hell out of it and wanted to continue playing while also supporting the developers.
Would I have bought the PS4 version after having spent hours playing it on the Vita. No. I hardly touched it on the PS4 as is.

For me personally the developer is more likely to earn disrespect from me by not making their game cross buy. Because I see hardly any upside for them in them not offering it.
