Odin Sphere Leifthrasir |OT| Second Revision

Currently at chapter 4 act 1 , looks like I played more than I thought back on the PS2 because I still remember the story up to this chapter .
I am playing on hard and getting S in almost all areas, a few bosses gave me some trouble but when you die you get back pretty quick on the current fight so it's no big deal .

Game is definitely going in my top 5 for 2016 , it got so much style and charm it's amazing.
 
Dragon's Crown bounced right off of me, but I really like this one so far. There is enough going on with the story bits, growing/eating food, and quick combat sections to keep me hooked. DC felt like an endless loop of replaying similar stages. I do play on going back to it at some point to give it another chance.
 
Amazon is only just now shipping my preorder. somehow says it will still be delivered today, but i doubt it.

it's going to be raining like crazy for the next handful of days so hopefully UPS doesn't leave it on my porch to get soaked, if it comes tomorrow.

UGH i can't wait to play. the demo was great and my wife seemed really jazzed about it, and she's been on a no-videogames strike for a handful of months. (focused on looking for work)
 
Pooka-man is a freaking beast. I'm already having 10x as much fun as I did with Gwen. With some ability nodes unlocked and a speed belt, he's so damn fast.

Damn I love Vanillaware games. I got caught just staring at the
Queen of the Dead's
flowing dress. It looked real and surreal at the same time. The art is just too damn good.

I really think they found a sweet spot in combat with this game too. There's tons of ways to combo, and I've been actually enjoying and using the magic a lot more lately. Also, the alchemy system is way more in-depth than I originally gave it credit for.
 
Loving the game so far, but it sure is as overly easy as I had feared prior to its release. Even on Hard the enemies and bosses are simply too lethargic and don't deal enough damage for death to even remotely be a concern. Not to mention the drop rate for food, seeds, and items in this remake is absurdly high.

Either way, I double-dipped on the PS4 and Vita versions and have no regrets. In an ideal world Vanillaware would've maintained the balanced challenge of the original along with adding all of the cool new stuff, but oh well.

How far are you? Some laterish bosses easily two shot me if I'm not really careful.

It was the dual horse knight fights that put me through the ringer. I didn't die, but damn was I close by the end of it.
 
Done with Mercedes.

Hers was the fastest campaign and she made quick work of the bosses.

Still as I said before, she was the strongest but also the least fun to play as, glad to be done with her.

Moved on to Oswald. And as I suspected he's probably the weakest in DPS, but I'd have to compare against gwendolyn. Still, he has a certain flair. Can't say I'm a big fan of the berserk mode as it's one more thing to manage in the battlefield besides dodging, potions, etc...

As of right now Cornelius continues to be the best.

They sent it LaserShip and it just arrived at my home after calling them yesterday.

Now I REALLY can't wait to get home.
 
For some reason I missed this game on PS2, I liked Muramasa rebirth on Vita and Dragon's Crown so I played the Demo on PS4. SOLD! This game is awesome, as usual art style is fantastic and the game is so damn fun. This one feels like the best of Muramasa rebirth and Dragon's Crown wrapped into one.

I've always felt that Odin Sphere was the superior game. Dragon's Crown was much more arcadey and repetitive. Especially if you were playing without a group.

What level are you? I find myself having a more challenging (better) time fighting bosses if I'm one level below the area's recommended level. I try to refrain from eating too many foodstuffs so I don't over level while minimizing the use of consumables.
 
Reached Velvet. Seems like she might be fun to play I'll see. I guess that after this I get to pick and choose which character I want to do freely for the ending scenarios.

Oswald ended up being better than gwendolyn with damage dealing if I take into account berserk mode. Except for one fucking boss.

The challenge mode
dual ice giants
were single handedly the worst fucking boss fight I have ever done in this god damn game and it made me scream in hate. How the fuck do they expect you to do that shit properly when these fuckers only have one tiny spot you can hit, which is high in the air, and they also don't let you stand on top of them for long plus most potions don't hit them from the ground.

So now I gotta fight
two of these fuckers
with Oswald which means
while I do one the other is either turning into a giant snowball or bouncing around
Worst designed challenge boss ever and it made me seriously consider playing more of Oswald but I pushed ahead and finished with a C/B because it took me forever to hit them. Fuck you bosses.

Dragon's Crown had the disadvantage that you had to replay levels over and over again for different side missions, while at least in this game you don't have to play levels more than once per character, which means that replaying levels won't occur for 4-6 hours. Dragon's Crown also had bad balancing issues, where if someone played as the amazon lady at first they'd wreck shit. Same with the dwarf. He was super fun to play and decently strong as fist, but in the hard/harder levels he was useless. Throws did no damage. Maybe they balanced him out to make him stronger later.

Dragon's Crown was designed to be an arcadey game with a lot of replayability, and I respect it for that. It's easily their least enjoyable single player game, but it has a lot of heart.

For me, it's GrimGrimoire>Odin Sphere>Muramasa>Dragon's Crown?Princess Crown?Grand Knight's History(haven't played the last two)

I played Dragon's Crown thoroughly and think its a better game than either Muramasa or Odin Sphere (having played those to completion). Albeit, I did play co-op the entire time, but indeed a much more enjoyable experience repeating stages and bosses in that capacity. I just got my Odin Sphere SE this afternoon, so once I eventually get around to it I'll be curious if the improvements will be enough to trump Dragon's Crown (which I see as their best game yet).

I feel like GrimGrimoire has to be their least played game, heh. To be fair, it's really, really steep to get into. Once I figured it out, though, I loved it.

in Gwen's story. It takes pretty much everything I have just to get the first health bar down.
 
I forgot how LONG this game is. I just started Cornelius and there's still so much left to do.

I love how the story is told slightly out of order. Start up Cornelius' game and, surprise,
Griselda is still alive!

I never finished Corn's story on the original game, so I'm hyped to finish it now, especially since he's amazingly fun to play as this time. Still wish he kept his human design - best character design in the game, IMO

I'm on Cornelius as well and about to finish his section.

I played the original which I loved, but this chance to play again after so many years with all of the improvements has been consuming any opportunities I would normally have available for sleep.

So good. So very good.

Also hoping for a DC update on PS4 - that would bring great pleasure. Same formula with the equivalent improvements would be fantastic.

Just returning to thank you two. Wasn't doing poorly because of my ignorance -- was still making progress just fine, but certainly felt that having a reminder on how to access my skills would prove incredibly useful in improving my efficiency, and alas it very much has!
 
Whoever designed the dwarf airship needs to be shot. The bastard on the flamethrower is the worst. I always switch to normal mode whenever I fight it.

I would recommend a hit and run style which would even work on expert difficulty.

Create some distance and make use of your minimap, once you see that she's stopped spamming fire or has stopped swinging go in for a flurry of hits. Then back off again and repeat and heal as necessary while far enough away.

If all else fails, eat some food at the travelling restaurant and level up ;)

Either way, the strategy above should make her manageable.

Is the traveling restaurant open at this point in the game? I'm in the second chapter of Gwens story.
 
Good point, probably not - was last week for me and I'm already forgetting.

Food you grow/find can still be useful for the same though.

Have you been leveling up your skills?

The needle strike one and the one that charges forward are good on their own, but also extremely effective on bosses...

I'm pretty sure you have access to the skill "Blinding Light". I'm sure many folks completely overlook it, but that skill can't be super clutch against bosses and large groups of enemies. If a boss is winding up a big move you can stun them out of it with that. Makes most fights a complete joke. A boss can resist it, but at such a low cost you can just cast again anyway.

I can't seem to find a way to disable that. Just have to patiently avoid it I think?

Outside of the
lightning
I found the airship enjoyable to fight once I understood what was going on.

Largely focusing on leveling the spear itself. It's already on level five of nine. I should probably start feeding into the skills. Currently level 12 from eating and such.

Good call, that's right.

I don't see that sort of mechanic work on bosses in many other games, but other characters have similar skills as well that are fantastic for bosses.

Corn
has a really good one too that I use until depletion in a lot of boss fights. Can't remember the name of the skill since I'm at work.

Queen Odette out of her spider form
which I thought was awesome.

Yeah, I don't recall the name of his skill, but I think I know which one you are talking about. They all have a few really good skills that could be easily overlooked, because you wouldn't expect them to be as good as they are.

These skills are not unilaterally effective, bosses are tailored with various potential player strategies in mind.

For example, there are a number of bosses that are resistant enough to
the Corn skill
such that the cost of activation is hardly worth it.

Makes you to map in something better for the fight which causes me to admire the design.

Yep, which is why I love that they gave so many options for mapping skills. I actually have every ability mapped to something because an ability that may seem worthless could end up being useful somewhere.
 
Going through velvet slowly but surely.

These guys took a cue from Quentin Tarantino in this story telling with jumping back and forth, with some characters entire playable story taking place before their major appearance in another.

Velvet herself has been fine so far. I don't know why people dislike her. Made it seem like she was weak but she has a spell that basically does the same as volcano, isn't too expensive point wise, and doesn't go through enemies making me not have to make volcano anymore.

So far if I have to have rankings of how much I enjoyed the character, using skills and power equally then it'd be

Cornelius> Velvet> Gwendolyn> Oswald= Mercedes

I know it seems like sacrilege to put Oswald so down, he was fine as it was but as I complained earlier there was one challenge boss battle that was the worst bullshit I've faced in a game in a long time.

Mercedes is the strongest but i didn't have fun whatsoever playing with her nor did I like her story all that much. Whoever designed her sections didn't think it through there were a total of two boss battle that were designed with her in mind.

Im doing velvet, and the challenge battle was this. When the end boss of the level is a certain level and for some reason the dwarf ship is 5 levels above, something is wrong.

I also remember a a battle I had to fight two of them.
 
Anyone know where I can get Rosemile seeds?

Also I can confirm in order to get the Eat All trophy, you need one character to eat all types of Maury food items.
