Office pranking. Did I go too far?

My co-worker and I are pretty good friends. We chat frequently throughout the day, I give him expired food, he stores my snow tires under his home. As an ongoing bit of mischief I move his water bottle in the hallway outside the mens' room but this has never been an issue. I move it in the bookshelf underneath where he leaves it, sometimes behind some papers. Again, it's never been an issue and just a bit of admittedly impish fun.

Yesterday morning I had a bit of a craigslist kerfuffle where a buyer was trying to scam me. When I threatened to come get my money back (long story, but the money was presumably still in his mailbox) he threatened to call the cops. If anyone would be calling the cops in this situation, I would think it would be me. My co-worker was feeling a bit mischievious yesterday, though. First he unplugged my USB for my wireless mouse so I thought my computer was frozen. No big thing. Then he called and pretended to be a police officer from the town where the craiglist guy was from, and relented pretty quickly but kind of had me going and slightly terrified for a moment. Then this morning I came in and he had taped the receiver button on my phone so I couldn't take calls until I realized this. He also told me he had thought about calling as a police officer again.

Last night when I was falling asleep I was struck with an idea for retaliation. When I got in this morning I put his lunch (a wrap with cold cuts, and baby carrots) in the freezer. At 11 AM he walked down holding the frozen meal and was quite displeased. He walked away before I could reply so I emailed him asking him what the issue was, since I had heard revenge was a dish ordinarily best served cold. Now he's quite cross and hasn't spoken with me in a few hours. I've tried to talk to him a couple times but he's not having it.

So GAF, did I go too far?

You made a food-based pun, he impersonated an officer.

Make more puns and punish him.

get it

EDIT: SERIOUSLY, CLYDEFROG? SERIOUSLY?

You should have had someone else impersonate a detective and call him and say he's being investigated for impersonating a police officer.

Although yours was quite clever.. messing with someone's food schedule is a little different. If I don't eat lunch I feel like shit, ill.. I'd not be very happy either.

You don't freeze a man's lunch. My dad gave me this advice on my 18th birthday and it's seen me through so far.

Don't be surprised if you come in tomorrow and realize your seat has soaked up a full bottle's worth of water when you sit down.

That's the big problem with pranking, eventually someone gets pissed off. The problem is that what seems benign to one person can be a major offense to another. Apparently your co-worker doesn't like having his lunch fucked with. Did he have anything else to eat or did he have to go hungry?

Your prank is pretty damn brilliant. The lunch in the freezer is a good idea in itself, but the "best served cold" line elevates it quite a bit. I don't think you went too far at all. He's probably pissed about something else.

Tell your friend to quit being a bitch. You guys have friendly ongoing hijinx between each other. Freezing his lunch shouldn't be something to put his panties in a bunch, especially after everything he did to you yesterday with your CL situation.

Never mess with a person's food. Sure, what he did yesterday was a bit much but it's easy to say "I GOT YA!" and jokes is over and everything immediately goes back to pretty much normal.... the thing you did was a 'GOT YA' and now you can't eat.

That's pretty hilarious OP and your co-worker needs to lighten up.

However, if messing with the guy's lunch has really got him grumpy you can always go out and buy him some replacement food to show no hard feelings.

People just tend to be grumpy over food, especially when hungry. He'll get over it.

And be sure to update us when he gets his glorious revenge.

Maybe he was hungry and he only had a few minutes to get his lunch and now he's gotta fucking thaw it and shit? Don't fuck with a bro's food, bro!

I'm starting to doubt the validity of my own friendships.

None of my so-called "friends" give me expired food. I don't even own snow tires. :(

Also, if you are going to play a prank by ruining someone's lunch at least have an alternative and hopefully better lunch ready for them.

I would be pissed off too if somone ruined my lunch.

The messing with your phone thing is the only thing close to "even" on this. But that's only if it actually messed up your job.

A prank phone call that scared you for a few seconds vs. basically destroying someone's lunch at work?

Not equatable. If his taping your receiver prank screwed with your job, then maybe.

YOU PUT A MAN'S GOD DAMNED COLD CUT SANDWICH, WITH BABY, MOTHER FUCKING BABY, CARROTS, IN THE FRIDGE AND YOU'RE COMING TO NEOGAF TO ASK IF YOU WENT TO FAR?!

You should be flogged in the street. You don't touch a man's sandwich. That's sacred, son. What if he's on a bulk? You just fucked his protein.

He impersonates a police office, unplugs your mouse and taped your receiver down. Then you put his food in the freezer and he stops talking to you. This guy seems to be laying it on a little thick. You sure he just doesn't hate you?

That doesn't sound too far at all given the other things you each have done. I guess he's especially sensitive to food-related issues though.

Just don't slash his snow tires. It might seem funny now, but could cause serious bodily harm to your bro.
