35. Vince Carter – The good news: VC averaged close to 29 points per game, six rebounds per game and five assists per game after the All-Star Break and seems sufficiently recovered from his scarring Toronto experience (in which the Raptors and their fans unrealistically expected him to play hard every night when he was making $14 million a year). The bad news: He reverted to 2002-04 Vince in the Miami series, to the point that TNT producers probably considered cutting Barkley's microphone off because you could tell he was just dying to describe Vince with a certain five-letter word that wouldn't have been very nice

Here's the smoking gun with Vince: Would he have lasted two quarters in that Spurs-Pistons series (on either team) before checking into full-scale "Not going with 25 feet of the basket/only launching 3s/spending the fourth quarter on the bench with a white towel over his head" mode? Of course not. And since that's the direction basketball is going – for better or worse – "star players" like VC and Francis are useless for anyone hoping to win a championship. They're just not tough enough.
.

Don't cross me, Simmons!

(from his quote of the day)

"The average fan doesn't study the draft and players like we do" -- Raptors GM Rob Babcock who drafted Charlie Villenueva 7th in 2005, Rafael Araujo 8th in 2004, signed Rafer Alston to a $6 million per year contract and traded Vince Carter.

7. Tracy McGrady – Yao gets to play second-fiddle to T-Mac for the rest of their careers. So maybe it's a moot point. And just for the record, we can officially call "T-Mac for Francis, Mobley and Cato" one of the five most lopsided NBA trades of all-time. You know it's a terrible trade when the GM involved starts getting death threats and everyone has the same reaction: "Well, it was bound to happen."

:lol :lol

16. Emeka Okafor – Fantastic rookie season capped off by an unexpected shattering of the Unintentional Comedy Scale on "The Rookies," when he told the camera (in all seriousness) that he was reading a book about hermaphrodites, adding, "Hermaphrodites are people with male and female gena- um, genitalia," as one of his posse members recoiled in horror. Other than watching my daughter trying to poop and ending up making the "Shaq trying to shoot free throws at the end of a game" face, that was the highlight of my summer so far.

WTF Emeka? :lol

lmao I saw that episode. Emeka' sitting there explaining this true-life story about a hermaphrodite whose parents are either brother/sister or cousins, can't remember and how his life is all fucked up and stuff while his friend is just sitting there with a horrified look on his face, wondering how Emeka can be eating chicken and telling this story at the same time :lol

14. Manu Ginobili...
.
.
.
8. Yao Ming...

One player plays his ass off every second he's on the court, the other plays his ass off about 5% of the time he's on the court. I'm not unhappy with where Ginobili places on this list (about right I guess), just where Yao ranks compared to him. Anybody who follows the Spurs knows that getting Ginobili 3 years ago was the piece SA needed to go from being a great team to one of the best, if not THE best. He's the guy who carries the Spurs when everyone else's confidence turns to mush and their balls shrivel up. Frankly, I doubt the Spurs win their past two titles without the guy, and IMO he'd be the 'guy who does all the little things' anywhere he played, if it wasn't SA.

Yao is a chump. IMO he's one of the most overrated players in the NBA. Tim Duncan may have soft tendencies, but Yao Ming is a motherfucking Care Bear. Plus, Manu flops better than he does too. :lol

Theres also the fact that there are no more good centers in the league, the fact that Shaq at his age is still far and away the most wanted center in the league says a lot.

Yao isn't good, though.

Damn, the Bucks are desperate. How the hell is Redd a maxout guy? Then again, better him than some stiff big-man and it's not like they can attract anyone better to Milwaukee :lol

I wonder if any idiot GM will give Ray Allen a max deal at 30...

How about idiot GMs?

It must be nice to be Ray Allen. On the first day of free agency, Insider has confirmed that at least four teams with maximum cap room contacted Allen to bid for his services.

The Sonics, Clippers, Cavs and Hawks are now in a bidding war to acquire the Sonics' sharpshooter.

I just don't get it. At least Redd is just entering his prime but a maxout SG who's primarily a jumpshooter at 30?

This is no LeBron James, who was 18 going on 30 when he was drafted. To get a sense of just how much of a kid-next-door Bynum is, visit the profile he's posted on MySpace.com. It's possible it's a year or so old, but can you imagine any other McDonald's all-American wanting or needing to do this?

It's as if one minute, the kid who calls himself Andy was trying to meet "gurlz" on the Web. The next, somebody was knocking on his bedroom door saying, "Son, how'd you like to come to L.A. and make millions taking Shaq's place with the Lakers?"

Here are his answers to some of the profile questions.

Is he a nerd in school? "Yea."

In the past month, has he been dumped? "Not dumped, not rejected, just kind of put off to the side."

What do you want to be when you grow up? "NBA balla/entrapenour [sic]."

Do you have a girlfriend? "She's out there sumwhere [sic]."

Yes, Andy, dozens of potential girlfriends will be circling like vultures outside the Lakers locker room every night after games.

Bernie Bickerstaff is pissing me off with his managing of the cap. He wants to use it next year when we have the full cap, but the Cats need a good SG/SF, and next year's SUCK. I'd rather extend a max offer to Joe Johnson or or something like 7-7.5 mil per to Larry Hughes, then sign Harrington next year to play SF. That way, next year, this team would be prime for a playoff push:

PG - Felton
SG - Joe Johnson/Larry Hughes
SF - Al Harrington
PF - Sean May/Emeka Okafor
C - Emeka Okafor/Primoz Brezec
Bench - G. Wallace, Hart, Carroll, 06 draft pick, Robinson

If only Bickerstaff wasn't a fucking tightass, argh.

I just remembered this from a bizillion years a go. There was this talk about how if you turned the Bulls logo upside down you'll see a satanic robot reading some book. Did you guys ever hear that?

Doesn't really look like a satanic robot. Honestly, it looks like one of the worms from Worms getting ready to perform a fire punch (yes, I'm that much of a nerd).

Clutchcityfans...

"It's July 1st and the diehards are anxioualy awaiting word on what is set to unfold for the Rockets with regard to free agency.

According to sports radio station 790 in Houston, the Rockets contacted the agents of three players available on Friday.

Those players are Memphis power forward Stromile Swift, Clippers swingman Bobby Simmons and Celtics forward Antoine Walker.ummm scorer yes, rebounder and defender...eh?

Swift and Simmons? Not terribly shocking. Walker? Huge surprise.

The forward does not fit in to Boston's new kiddie rebuilding plan and it no longer seems like he will be back with the Celtics, but at the same time he is a very offensive-minded power forward (albeit versatile) that doesn't seem like a coach Jeff Van Gundy-type player.

Update:
The Houston Chronicle would later confirm this report on Saturday, and the Boston Herald also reported that the Rockets expressed interest in Walker and that Antoine could come visit Houston early this week.

"We talked in the middle of the night about Antoine," Walker's agent Mark Bartelstein told the Chronicle. "They could do a sign-and-trade. But I will say this, the Rockets are a great organization. They have a lot of great pieces. He sees Houston as a terrific young team with two great players. Antoine sees them as a championship-contending team, and he is looking for a chance to contend for championships."

Stay tuned. "

The only positive about Walker is "Hey, at least he's better then Weatherspoon and Vin Baker". I hope Juwan gets 100% healthy, he was so great in his role before he went down :( He was able to knock down the open 15 foot jumper, he could defend the bigger PFs in the league, and he was able to run without getting tired in 5 mins.

Noooo...

I still don't believe Walker can be a "part" of a team. He's show that he's the type of player who can and WILL take any shot possible. It's great if it's off a Yao/Tmac kickout with a few seconds left on the clock, but if he gets the ball anywhere early in the shot clock...it's basically Steve Francis + 6 in height advantage.

My thoughts exactly...GIVE ME SWIFT over the other two! I dont want Walkers hogging shoot first ass,I hope the Rockets have some other free agents to look at.

Walker has toned down his 3-point shooting, he only averaged around 3 per game with Dallas and Boston #2. And he CAN rebound, he's never dropped below 8 per game in his career. The only thing that worries me about him is his defense and turnovers, but maybe Gundy can work with him :)

Gundy couldnt fix Steve :lol

What makes you think he can get Walker to play D and not turn the ball over a lot.I know I'll accept him if we get him and become a Walker fan cause I'm loyal to my team, but I just dont think hes the right fit at all.

Hey, he got Juwan to play D! He should have won Coach of the Year for that alone!

Yeah, I agree. Still, you gotta admit Bynum is a little...slow.

Slow like Kazaam or slow like Steel? This kid actually reminds me of a Baby Shaq in how he acts. Remember such great quotes as: "I have won at every level except professional and college"?

Stupidity is one of the greatest gifts God can give to an athlete. I predict great things from tub.

You don't speak about Shaq that way! He got his MBA. We also don't speak about which school he got it from, we just speak about the fact that he has it!

It is an internet MBA. For a guy like Shaq he can get guys like Pimpwerx to do his homework for him.

In the way he acts yes... in the way he plays? Well... not from his stats....

I'm not sure you'd want your thesis' conclusion ending with "Peace"

I wonder, does he end real life conversations with "Peace." everytime he feels he's done?

"Sorry I was late to class. Peace."

you could have had a great, NBA ready, swingman/sf in Joey Graham or Danny Granger had Bernie not picked Sean "I weigh 400lbs and play the same position as the Bobcats best player" May with a lottery pick.

That would be nice, but I still think the Cats are doing a very good job with their roster. Sure, they have a lot of young players with no experience, but their talent pool has grown steadily and they seem to be heading into the right direction with a solid vision of what they want.

I just wish I can watch them play this upcoming season more than the lonesome game from last season because I believe they'll be an interesting team to keep track of.

You probably will be able to since the Cats finally pulled the plug on that gawd awful C-SET crap.

Bernie really is being a bitch with this cap thing though. Who the hell are we gonna sign next year? Ben Wallace? Amare Stoudemire? Yao Ming? Tayshaun Prince?

hopefully we just draft Adam Morrison next year, eh.

the best summary of andrew bynum i've heard yet so far, from another forum:

Not only does he have the size, superior strength and athleticism to succeed in the NBA, he's fukking stupid. That would be bad if it were a point guard, but look at all the great centers in NBA history. Shaq...stupid. Hakeem...probably couldn't spell Olajuwon. Wilt...didn't know how to ride a bicycle. Bynum knows how to do two things- dunk the basketball.
