:lol :lol :lol @ This Jordan practice story

The most amazing single basketball play that I've ever witnessed was performed by Michael Jordan: In October 1989, when I was coaching the Rockford Lightning in the Continental Basketball Association, I happened to be at the Deerfield Multiplex for Chicago Bulls' initial training camp session of the season. Since the Bulls were Rockford's NBA "affiliate," I had dibs on every draft choice and free agent who would eventually be cut by the Bulls. The player I was looking hardest at was Matt Brust, a 6-4 tough guy signed as camp fodder out of St. John's.

For the first few days of any training camp, the protocol is traditional: The important veteran players cruise through the drills and scrimmages, while everybody else busts their hump from baseline to baseline. That's why, in an otherwise lukewarm scrimmage, Jordan came sashaying to the basket in a semi-break situation, casually gearing up to amuse the in-crowd with his first slam-bang dunk of the new season. But Brust, hustling like his pants were on fire, caught up with Jordan and proceeded to His Airness on his royal keister.

BAM! Jordan went down and didn't move for a few moments. Suddenly the gym was hushed as the trainers scurried onto the court. The only sound was Jerry Krause choking on one of his breakfast donuts ...

... until Jordan finally climbed to his feet, shook off the ministrations of the trainers, and motioned for the scrimmage to resume. But the fearsome look in MJ's eyes foretold a revenge that would be both devastating and creative.

On the very next sequence Jordan pilfered a careless pass and was once again headed hoopward-and there was Brust, chasing the ball and intent on a command performance.

The first hint of trouble was when Jordan slowed down somewhat to allow Brust to catch him. Then, as before, Jordan elevated to the basket, palming the ball in his right hand. This time, just as Brust launched another audacious attack on Jordan's august person, MJ made a preemptive strike, smashing his left elbow into the rookie's forehead. Then, while still levitated, Jordan switched the ball to his left hand, reached around to the far side of the rim, and shivered the entire gym with a thunderous dunk.

For Jordan, score two points and a KO.

For Brust, a mild concussion and an early retirement.

Jordan > you!

During college till now, I've worked for 3 of the biggest companies in the country...

And working for Citigroup, General Electric, and America Intel Group showed you that people who got their MBA at an online college got laughed at... wow

I have nothing against online degrees but sorry if I'm not as impressed as the Shaq-loving media with a UofP MBA.......especially when they probably let him slide with a lot of stuff just cos of who he is :lol

To be honest I am very impressed that he got his degrees, both of them. This man doesn't need them at all, and took the time to get them. I think you would know if they let him slide or not depending on when he started the courses...if it took him 3 or 4 years then you know he earned it...

Why do I have this feeling that Shaq is just working for his PhD so he can create a new nickname?

"From now on, I will be known as Dr. Shaqalicious and you will only refer to me by that name."

From NY Times

Jerome James, who played the last four seasons in Seattle, agreed yesterday to a five-year deal with the Knicks, according to his agent. Precise terms will not be set until the league completes its new labor deal. But it was expected that James will earn about $5 million in the first year of the contract, and $29 million over five years.

I would be shocked if Stromile Swift ended up a Houston Rocket. You will almost never see a young player (25 years old) take less money in order to get to a winning team. Younger players almost always go after bigger bucks when they get to their 2nd contract and I expect Swift's agent to push for more money HARD (of course that means more money for the agent as well). Swift is a young talent and has some potential and he's like a pretty good looking girl you might want to settle down with. Antoine Walker, on the other hand, is like a decent looking woman who is twice divorced and has kids. There is some baggage there and you aren't sure that you want anything long term with her. Donyell Marshall? He's the Rockets booty call. He's like the girl they know they can have if they want, but they would rather shoot a little higher before giving up and making that drunken call at 2:15 AM.

If the Kings end up with nothing out of Mobley that's pretty shitty. They dismantled half the team claiming to have the capacity to make moves now, but they've done nothing but have Shareef come by for dinner and a picnic. Petrie doesn't let rumors get out, so I'm not surprised by the silence, but all the Free Agents the team needs are dissapearing. Latest rumor is a trade for Bonzi Wells. I hope they aren't getting cocky just because Kevin Martin is doing well in summer league. Boy is still built like a 17 year old.

Real GM
LA Times - The Lakers have taken another bold step to remake their roster, agreeing in principle on a trade that would bring forward-center Kwame Brown from the Washington Wizards and would send Caron Butler and likely Chucky Atkins to Washington.

She's obviously a slut, but I think that girl is fine as all get out. Pretty eyes, big pouty lips, ample bossom. If she weren't a whore I'd beat it like like some scrambled eggs.

Like I said, I wasn't making fun of online degrees. They are a good thing for folks who don't have the time to attend classes cos of work or whatever. I was making fun of the amazement at Shaq's online degree. Oh and your attempted analogy sucks :D

It all depends on what contract they got Kwame to sign...

EDIT- Apparently its two year guaranteed with a third as a team option. That's a pretty decent gamble, I think.

you flat out said try to apply for a job with an UoP MBA and see what happens... which sounds like you think they are worthless because you go to a REAL school.. And why shouldn't people be happy for Shaq getting an MBA... it is something positive, I love basketball.. but I'll be honest I think the NBA doesn't present itself that well... Instead of sending the message that all a young kid needs to do is play basketball and all will be ok is kind of what I have been seeing from the NBA...with all these kids getting drafted straight from college. Can you really name something that is bad in the story of Shaq getting his MBA? Besides the fact that if he applies for a job in the real life he is screwed...

Not a bad gamble... If that is the lakers on;y move in the offseason it is a joke.. The Knicks got James... hahahah As a Sonics I am not sad to see this guy go at all... If he got his head together he could be a force... But I have only seen him focus a couple of time..and that was in the playoffs this year and when he played against Shaq....

At least Odom can play SF now. I still have nightmares of Brand backing him down.

Konex Am cry

Konex was against the deal so it will obviously turn out to be amazing. Watch Kwame have career numbers.

Then again, we still don't have anyone to bring up the ball. :lol

Wrong, they are trading for Jason Kidd. And then they are pulling a sign and trade with the Rockets for Yao Ming!

"Oberto captained Argentine team that beat Team USA --- By Chad Ford

The San Antonio Spurs have made yet another international coup, it appears.

The Spurs have come to an agreement in principle with Argentinean center Fabrico Oberto, according to his agent, Herb Rudoy.

Oberto, who averaged 14.2 ppg and 7.3 rpg for Parmesa in Spain this season, is widely regarded as one of the top five players in Europe.

He was the team captain of the Argentina team that defeated Team USA at the 2002 World Championships. He dropped 28 points on Yugoslavia's Vlade Divac in the finale of that tournament.

Oberto is a warrior in the paint with polished moves around the post. He's a good scorer, rebounder and defender who has the toughness and aggressiveness to be an excellent role player in the league. He's also a great passer in the post and frequently draws comparisons to Divac on that skill. Don't be surprised if he is the Spurs starting center on opening night.

Oberto has been hotly pursued by NBA teams for years but has never shown much interest in the past. He's one of the highest paid players in Europe and has been content to be a star over there.

The fact that he turns thirty this year, is considered a little undersized to play center in the NBA (he's barely 6-10 in shoes) and has the free throw touch of Shaq (45 percent from the line) has hurt his free agent stock in the past two years.

The move by the Spurs means that it's unlikely they will bring over their other Argentinean big man, Luis Scola, this season. The Spurs drafted Scola in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft, but have been unable to bring him over because of an enormous buyout provision with his team Tau Ceramica.

Chad Ford covers the NBA for ESPN Insider. "

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2107750

Great news.

I think he is a great pickup to give more depth to the frontcourt. I've seen him play a few times and I like what I've seen. I had expected the Spurs to make a move for him last year, but I guess it's never too late. And with that FT % he will fit right in with the Spurs.

And regarding Ford's comments on Scola at the end of the article, I've heard rumors from Spurs Insiders that this deal might still not prevent the Spurs from bringing Scola over because they'll still have enough money for him from the MLE. So let me cross my fingers.

Oh yeah, more on that

CNNSI - Free agent guard Antonio Daniels says he played his best basketball under coach Nate McMillan in Seattle and he wants to follow McMillan to the Trail Blazers.

Daniels and his agent had dinner Tuesday night with Blazers general manager John Nash, player personnel director Kevin Pritchard and McMillan.

McMillan coached Daniels the past two seasons with the SuperSonics. The two talked briefly after McMillan took the Portland job last week.

Daniels says McMillan knows how to bring out the best in his players.

Uh oh Lakers :P

Yao is recruiting Tony Parker and Boki to come back to Houston. Even Colin Pine is there translating from Chinese to Slovenian to French.

Daniels is a bum.

Our "secret" is going to be playing point guard this year. And since we pay him in donuts he won't affect our salary cap situation.

Worst....GM.....Ever..

dont be stupid. What was the alternative? Lose Caron to free agency and get nothing for him? Or resign him to some stupid, Bobby Simmons/Larry Hughes inflated contract that he wouldn't be worth to us with Kobe and Odom already solidified at the 2 and 3? This is a gamble, but not a huge one. Only a 2 year deal, in the grand scheme of things, that ain't shit.

I think Brown might end up being a decent big man. I am hoping he can get 15 and 10 in 40 minutes. If he can just help to control the glass that will automatically make the Lakers a much better team. We have 93 small forwards on our team anyways so losing Caron isn't going to be a killer anyways, it isn't like he played defense anyways (something the entire team shared in common). I would rather have a guy who can rebound than a guy like Caron who doesn't fit in with the Lakers. We probably should have aimed a little higher, that is the only fault I found with this trade. I would much rather keep Lamar than Caron personally.

And Atkins was decent, but it is won't be hard to replace a undersized shooting guard masquerading as a point guard, the NBA is littered with them. That is the problem with the Lakers, none of the pieces fit together right. I will agree with Konex that Mitch is a terrible GM because he (and 90% of the rest of the NBA) don't seem to realize that. Yeah it is nice to have a kid who is incredibly athletic, but when all you have is 8 of those guys and they all play the same position your team is going to be garbage.

We just have to keep the veterans from going "Jordan" on Kwame. The Lakers have to make him feel at home and help him get over his battered Jordan teammate syndrome. Maybe get a restraining order on Jordan? I think he should probably ask Steve Kerr how he got over being assaulted by Jordan during his weekly beatdown sessions during practice.

Damn that Jordan, his thuggery is still hurting the Lakers even after he retired...

we HAD to get some help up front. Anything. If we went into the season with Mihm and Turiaf as our frontcourt, we'd be headed for the lottery again.

He'll never forget Jordan's face. It's burned into your mind once you see it.

Anyone know if we'll be under the salary cap for '07?

Vlade retires

Serbia & Montenegro: Divac Retires

14 July 2005

Serbo-Montenegrin great Vlade Divac has announced he is to retire from the game because of a persistent back injury.

Divac planned to finish his career back in his homeland with Partizan Belgrade, the club he left to join the LA Lakers in 1989, but any hopes of an emotional return now appear to have been dashed.

The 37-year-old center, who signed a extended contract with the Lakers last summer, underwent back surgery six months ago and played only 15 games last season, averaging just 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds.

"My back is causing me a lot of problems," he admitted.

"At the moment I don't feel pain, but after four of five days of playing I feel it a lot.

"There is just a 50-50 chance for me to be fully recovered for the new season."

He added: "I had talks with the club management but the final decision was left to me.

"I've had a wish for years to finish my career in Partizan, but my current health leaves almost no chance for me to play in Partizan or for the Lakers.

"I'll stay in LA for one more year though, as my kids are finishing school here."

Should have retired as a King. He'll probably be an assistant coach within a year.

I think we should actually be in good shape after this season. I think a bunch of contracts are up in 2006 including stiffs like Brian Grant and a couple of our army of small forwards.

Hope we don't put too much into Kwame's contract, there is still a chance we could get a good player after this season if we have the space. I think Yao's contract will be up after this season and Marion's too, but I doubt we have a real chance to get either. And I wouldn't want to give Yao a max contract either.

Actually, now that I think about it Stern can't be too happy with T-Mac almost reaching the second round. He will probably deport Yao if he doesn't sign with LA for the verteran's minimum next year.

Even though PJ won't get his 10th, this is smart for the long-term -- assuming Kwame isn't a complete bust. Even if he is, it's only a 2-year deal.

Actually, he really wanted to retire where he started his career- the Montenegrin basketball team. But it makes perfect since for him to retire as a Laker. Lakers were his first team, and thats where he learned how to play non-euro ball. One of the last players to ever grace the court with The Great Irvin "Magic "Johnson. I'm sure he'll get an office job for the Lakers. Maybe a scout for europe.

Sacto... HAHAHAHAHA Let me see. Retire as a Laker >>> Queens.

I wouldn't doubt it. Not only did MJ call Kwame a "Flaming Faggot" he made him his whippin boy. But i'm sure Kwame isn't the only player with Jordans image burnt in his mind. Every one of his teammates on the Wizards hated Jordan, as much as the his Bulls teamates, and Kwame I'm sure hates him. But its ironic the Lakers choose him. Something to think about...If Kwame works out to be a great deal, then everyones perception of Jordan being a failure as a gm will change. MJ gets a second chance to be glorified again. Was Jordan involved with this trade?

Jordan wishes he could be half as good of a GM as "The LOGO" aka Jerry West.

speaking of which, guess who made a push at trading for and signing Kwame Brown only to be beat out by the Lakers? JERRY FUCKING WEST! If Kwame's got his stamp of approval, thats good enough for me.
