I love the Mets but I had to make this:

Bad deal for the Cubs? No way. Linebrink was one of the top 5 middle relievers in the NL last year. Mets tried to trade Perez for him last year. If the Cubs can at least shore up the pen everything else becomes easy.

Thing is,the Cubs didnt get Linebrink :lol

Barrett for Linebrink? Padres weren't stupid enough to trade him last year, and I doubt they'd ever be willing to trade one of their biggest relievers for a decent catcher who's doing badly this year.

Whoops, missed Mrbob's post of unleashed fury.

Bowen has appeared in 30 games and is hitting .268 (22-for-82) with two home runs and 11 RBIs. In a recent start June 17 against the Cubs, he went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Burke, 18, was San Diego's first-round compensation pick in last year's first-year player draft. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound left-hander was the 35th overall pick in the draft out of Ooltewah (Tenn.) High School. In 62 games at Class A Fort Wayne, he batted .211 with one homer and 21 RBIs in 213 at-bats.
Hard to evaluate the trade right now but why not target a prominent reliever? Akinori Otsuka and Linebrink can be had. Come on Chicago, SCOTT SCHOENEWEIS IS ON THE MARKET!!!

wtf, they could've traded Barrett for a bag of baseballs and gotten more value :-\
I guess it was a "addition by subtraction" type of move though, so it's not all that awful for the Cubs.

In other news, Andy Phillips has been called up for the Yankees to man 1B and give Cairo a break. I wholly support the return of the ALABAMA SLAMMA.

...but we still totally need a real 1B. Come to think of it, with Damon gimpy, we could still use a real DH too :-(

TRADE FOR ADAM DUNN

Did Zito forget how to pitch after he left Oakland? Watching his games are like tortue. Nice job by the Giants to sign him for the rest of his life.

Update: Holy shit Zito you can rot in hell. Thanks for not coming to the Mets.

See Josh Bard and Cla Meredith for Doug Mirabelli

I was going to say the same thing. Although Bard had negative value in Boston at the time of the trade. They had to trade him for his own personal safety.

Considering the fact that after he left, Zito, Mulder, and Hudson became shells of their former selves, I would say thats pretty good proof that he was the one who made them. And look at what he did with Maine and Perez. I love you Rick Peterson.

Anyone interested in a 42 year old meatballer for their bullpen?

The Indians released veteran reliever Roberto Hernandez and have recalled Edward Mujica to take his place. Hernandez, who signed a one-year $3.5 million deal during the winter, allowed three runs on three hits in the ninth inning Tuesday in a 9-6 loss to Philadelphia.

In another move, the Indians placed left fielder David Dellucci on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring and recalled Ben Francisco from Class AAA Buffalo. Dellucci was injured Tuesday night on a play at first base.

Hernandez, 42, has struggled most of the season. He's 3-1, but has a 6.23 ERA in 28 appearances. He allowed 33 hits in 26 innings with 16 walks and 18 strikeouts.

In his last 11 games, Hernandez allowed 16 hits and 10 earned runs in nine innings.

The Indians wanted to use him as a set-up man at the start of the season, but he was ineffective. Since then they've been having a difficult time using him in meaningful situations.

Hernandez started the ninth inning on Tuesday after the Indians scored twice in the eighth to cut the Phillies lead to 6-5. But he gave up three runs on three hits and two walks before ending the inning.

Out of the four veteran relievers the Indians signed over the winter to improve their bullpen, two remain -- Aaron Fultz and Joe Borowski. Keith Foulke retired before spring training and Hernandez is gone.

Dellucci was the left-handed hitting portion of the manager Eric Wedge's left field platoon. The Indians probably would have recalled Shin-Soo Choo to take his spot because he's a left-handed hitter, but Choo is on the disabled list at Buffalo.

The will be Francisco's second trip to the big leagues.

It was so bizarre to watch last night's game where they ran him out there in a do/die situation. I guess that is one way to test to see if someone will be reliable in the clutch .. just hope it doesn't bite us in the ass down the road.

And LOL at "Dolan's Discount's" this past off-season. Foulke retired, Hernandez cut, Dellucci has been a bust and Trot Nixon is slowly falling apart as the season progresses.

There has to be a plan here. Otherwise the Cubs just made a horrible move by getting rid of a good catcher for some crap.

Its called addition by subtraction. Barrett has cost them atleast 6 games I'd say with horrible base running and stupid plays in the field. Not to mention he's become a cancer in the clubhouse. They'd be right behind Brewers if not for his dumb ass. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Also Bowen's stats would look fairly similar if you tripled his at bats.

UGH.. dammit White Sox, poor Garland.

As bad as the Dodgers offense has been lately.. the White Sox have just been abysmal. Every time I see the averages for the guys in their line-up, I'm literally shocked at how far they've fallen off.

It's going to be a long, long summer continuing to try and root for this team...

It wouldn't be so bad if they were a 45 million dollar payroll team. But they are DOUBLE that.

Omar may give a call. The guy did OK as a Met his last two times in NY.

I was going to say the same thing, but it would be because of his age, not his talent. Omar seems to have a hardon for washed up players.

Damn you old ass Nomar, That was a double play ball that just went past you. Not looking good for Kuo though cause these balls are getting smoked!

:sigh Look at that, Dodgers desperately need a strong outing of 6/7 innings from Kuo with Billingsley starting tomorrow. Offense will probably disappear on cue as well, Bring back Loney!

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEY PlZ! Nomas old ass Nomar and his shitty defense.

Frank Thomas BOMBA PLZ! End the misery quickly today so I can go do something else.

:lol Bombko warming up...

Kuo is pitching like a retard, He gets ahead of all these hitters then overthrows everything to fill up the count.

Muchas Gracias Frank Thomas, Good night all.

Billingsley better bring it tomorrow or the Dodgers are dunzo with 3 pitchers worth a lick.

Someone ask Nomar what happened on that double play ball he missed. **** YOU NOMAR!

You actually think they're gonna pull a comeback or something... it's Halladay...

That's not the point, The point is that this offense can't do simple things consistently. And it hurts the team when they are getting shutout in low scoring games.

:lol :lol :lol It's time to DFA Bombko and Mental Hendrickson for some Rookies. At least Rookies will have an excuse for sucking so bad at everything they will be asked to do. Hey Colletti, Good job on resigning Bombko and Hendrickson over Mad Dog.

I can take the #4 and #5 starter getting beat every time out.

But, that fact that they get absolutely shelled everytime out, effectively ending the game by the 3rd or 4th inning is what drives me nuts.

Just give the offense a shot every once in a while.

Poor guy getting ridiculed on TV. :lol

Why were they ridiculing him? I hope it wasn't for talking on the cell phone. No Dodger announcer has the right to do that... not when half the fans at the Ravine talk on their cell phones during the game. Wow... I'm seriously pissed today.

I got the solution to your problem right here:

Control Towers after another dominating performance.

I wonder how long Gibbons will keep Halladay in the game. No need to have him throw too many pitches but then again it's Gibbons.
