By all accounts Hargrove wasn't a great manager, but I have no idea why he'd leave like this.

He and Ichiro have never gotten along, but you don't pull out when your team is 11 games over .500 and in the middle of a pennant chase. I have a feeling either he or someone in his family is ill.

Don't trade Cano.

Demote that bitch to AAA. He needs to wake the hell up, is all. Cano isn't the problem, in as much as Damon, GIAMBEAST, Dougie Alphabet, Abreu, and myriad other shitty players and whatnot are.

The Yankees should find a way to get Mark Texiera, and that should be the last real free-agent/trade thingy we do until all of our arms and stuff are up here. Maybe we have to part with Ian Kennedy to get him...but Texiera will make sure 1B isn't a problem for a while. The next priority should be to construct a truly useful bench. Miguel Cairo shouldn't be in the Majors; nor should Wil Nieves, and nor should Phelps. Dougie Alphabet should only be a caddy for a real 1B, and only for minimum cost. The next priority should be to sell off/trade/DFA any number of the following:

- Mussina
- Farnsworth
- Melky
- Damon
- Giambi
- Abreu

My biggest issue with Cashman is just spending where he should save and saving where he should spend.

He should not have gone into the season with 0 power from 1st base (Doug is shit, let's admit it) and he should not have gone into the season with the bench the way it is, or the 4th OF as Melky or bust. Melky's not awful I guess, but he's really rough around the edges and he's just not going to be the CF of the future. Not that he needed to get the CF of the future, but considering Damon, he should have had suitable backups.

Also, it was retarded to rely on Pavano for a full season, and ridiculous to sign Igawa when we could have had Ted Lilly for the same price and a much bigger return.

He turned his nose up to Beltran and signed Damon instead a year later? wtf bbq.

He got fleeced on the Sheffield deal. Sanchez was a health risk and just had TJ surgery.

He got fleeced on the RJ deal obviously, though we needed RJ out ASAP.

We don't necessarily "miss Sheff's bat" like the retarded press is saying, but we could have used some quality relief, 1b, or bench players. Don't the Tigers have Sean Casey? We couldn't get him in that trade? He's not a good offensive player, but he's literally 50 points better in OPS+.

And ****ing seriously, what's the point of ditching Andy Phillips, who is total shit, for Josh Phelps, only to ditch Phelps after limited playing time for Andy Phillips, who again is total shit?

What's the logic? What's the rationale there?

The Sheffield thing isn't so bad, because that cake is off our books and we have players that might be awesome in the future when Sheff is gone.

The real issue with the Sheff thing is him being here in the first place, when Vlad was there. We could have Vlad in RF RIGHT NOW, next to BELTRAN in CF.

fsccccckkkkkkk.

Where are my fellow M's fans? Maynerd? Bluemax? Wake up! As entertaining as it may be, I can't take anymore of this Yankees bitching and moaning.

Seattle Mariners said:
SEATTLE -- Mike Hargrove resigned Sunday as manager of the Seattle Mariners and was replaced by bench coach John McLaren.

The stunning announcement came prior to the Mariners' series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays at Safeco Field.

In a prepared statement released by the organization, Hargrove said he was stepping aside because his "passion has begun to fade" and it would not be "fair to myself or the team" to continue.

Making his decision even more surprising was the fact the Mariners won their seventh consecutive game Saturday night and have closed to within four games of the AL West-leading Angels.

Hargrove will manage the team on Sunday and McLaren takes over on a full-time basis Monday night when the team opens a three-game series in Kansas City against the Royals.

What the **** kind of reason is that? If we've won seven in a row, eleven games over .500, in the heart of a run at making the playoffs, and your "passion has begun to fade," then good riddance.

I am happy that McLaren is now the manager. I thought the front office should've given him the job instead of Hargrove back in 2005.

edit: I wonder if this will help in resigning Ichiro?

Eh, I really dislike trading for prospects because of how infrequently they actually pan out. If you're gonna trade a player like Sheff (who, admittedly, had a down year but still is a huge offensive force), you need proven MLB value. and we needed that considering the huge glaring weakspots on our team.

What exactly did we get in that deal? Sanchez, Kevin Whelan, and someone else I can't even think of?

Don't really think that the Yankees need a major overhaul I personally wouldn't do it. I just think they need a REAL 1st baseman, an actual outfielder, and an actual backup catcher. If the Yankees had that instead of the ****fest they had this year then I'm sure they'd be doing a lot better. BTW those 3 things could have been had for the same price of Roger Clemens.

Cashman has bragged that the minor league Yankees are now better off than they were the past 8 years but the MLB Yankees are worse off than they have been for the past 10 years. Stop doing shit half way and pick a decision or leave the team. Either your starting over or your not and honestly I can't tell what he's trying to do.

It seems like he just does shit halfway so when he gets criticized he can point to something that he's doing "right".

I can imagine him and Torre having an emergency meeting to discuss shit like this. They probably argue and spend hours on something like this when BOTH PLAYERS SUCK ASS and any baseball fan can tell you this.

But then again Cashman is still trying to get Shea Hillenbrand on the team so I think the guy spends all his time trying to find ways to bring crappy players to the Yankees.

He's trying to do both. He's just bad at it.

hahaha Torre is an idiot. Mike Myers has been getting pounded by lefties all year you say? BRING HIM IN TO FACE 3 LEFTIES!

Who had the bright idea of moving Cano up in the lineup anyways?

I don't know but its a ****ing disaster....and a stupid move.

Why don't they just move Arod up to 3rd? Look at how many innings he has led off or had innings killed by the guy in front of him this season.

Putting him at 3rd would mean he would get more at bats and he wouldn't have to worry about some shitty player in front of him KILLING the offense. Then Posada could bat 4th and it would be better than what they have now when the first 3 guys get out and Arod and Posada get hits just to have the shit end of the lineup do nothing to bring them home.

Two Braves made the All Star team.........not sure who though. Skip just said on the radio hinting that only 23 players would be making the flight home from the West Coast trip next Sunday.

Smoltz and Renteria?

yeah those seem like the right choices, but i wish soriano or hudson would get the nod too but i guess there isnt enough room.

geez how did rent hit that?

Wooo Cubs win today, taking 2 out of 3 against Milwaukee. Just what the doctor ordered.

Time to stay within 4 to 6 games by the All Star break to make the second half playoff push!

When did Boone Logan become good and how did this happen

e: This Marlins closer is the worst pitcher I've ever seen

man the Rangers pitching has been so good lately. and of course as i'm typing this, gagne is choking a save. but wow close 1 run games are so much better than 3-4 run losses having 2-3 runs put up against us every 1st inning. a lot of the young guys are really stepping up.

wooo rangers win

I hope so. But I can't imagine it helping TOO much with resigning him. But this is definitely one of the weirdest things I've ever seen or heard. But like people said, I never really thought he was a great manager. Hopefully this doesn't distract the team too much. They've been playing extremely well.

Hargrove was only ever a stopgap manager anyway. I was never a big fan of bringing him in in the first place (thogh i have to give him some credit for this season so far). Now if we can only get Adrian Beltre to retire...
