BOSTON (TICKER) -- Jon Lester, who has overcome a bout with cancer, is expected to be recalled by the Boston Red Sox and start at the Cleveland Indians on Monday.
The Red Sox, who own a 7 1/2-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East, will announce the move following Sunday's contest with the Chicago White Sox.
It will be the first start in the majors for the lefthanded Lester since he was scratched from an outing with the Oakland Athletics last August 27 with a sore back, a injury that eventually led to the discovery of cancer.

"His parents will be there," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "So much went into this (decision). We've been (keeping) up on this kid all year. We're going to do what's best for us and what's best for him.
"We never let (emotion) get in the way of making the best baseball decision. We're real hopeful."
Lester, who was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma last September, has had a steady road back following treatment in the offseason.
The 23-year-old did participate in spring training before starting the season on the disabled list. Following a successful rehab, Lester was removed from the DL on June 11 but remained in the minor leagues with the Class AAA Pawtucket Red Sox.
In 17 starts in the minors between Class A Greenville and Pawtucket, Lester was 4-5 with a 3.61 ERA.
"He's not a typical 23-year-old," Francona said. "He's the kind of kid who you tell him something like this, he's always ready to pitch. He doesn't lose focus.
"The clincher for (pitching coach) John Farrell and myself is when we said if we're 100 percent and we don't need another pitcher, should he be here on the roster? The answer was yes."
The young southpaw is expected to replace Julian Tavarez, who has been a disappointing 5-8 with 5.27 ERA in 18 appearances as the Red Sox's fifth starter.
Prior to this season, the 34-year-old Tavarez had just six starts in 273 games over the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Red Sox.
