i don't see the problem with bringing in papelbon here. this is the higher leverage situation than the hypothetical 9th inning with no men on. this is the kind of thinking that MORE managers need to use. if the redsox are serious about conserving papelbon's arm, then someone else will be coming for the 9th.
The problem isn't that they brought Papelbon in in the higher leveraged situation. That is encouraged. The problem is they dicked around with Pinero, brought in some random dumbass to get one out and let one run score, and then bring in Papelbon. Are they really that terrified of letting Papelbon get that extra out? Especially if he's planned to start eventually. It makes no sense.

It reminds me of last year, when Liriano was pitching out of the bullpen. Twins would refuse to to use him in high leveraged situations, or for multiple innings, despite the fact that he has ridiculous strikeout ratios and was going to start eventually. Instead they let other dumbasses screw around until the game got tied up, and then bring in Liriano. Not entirely the same since he wasn't technically the "closer" then, but still. Francona was playing with fire there.

Good play tex. retard.

edit: wow, that portrait truly makes him look like a retard mixed with pablo francisco

Papelbon just made the Rangers look like a AAA team.

AAA? Generous.

Young had a ridiculous mindset. Tex swung at the first pitch. The last three batters were way overmatched.

I give them an over 40 women's softball team.

The LOLrioles do too, but that didn't stop them from taking 2 of 3 at the Toilet.

Much like the ****ty Rangers took 2 of 3 from you? Yeah, Sox and Yanks have really been performing this year so far...

But the RangLOLers took 2 of 3 from you!

Tavarez is your Rasner.

Road excuse? This isn't football!

I would rather the Yankees have played on the road actually.

Warmer weather = no hamstring issues, better control on breaking stuff for pitchers...

This was an embarrassing turn through the rotation for the Yanks, and IMO it could be worse with Pavano tomorrow.

Kei Igawa = your Josh Beckett?

I'd be thrilled.

:\

I wrote how I feel about Kei on looseballs, but just the fact of having to wait while these losers "adjust"...at least the Trashbagdome is indoors.

Woo, that was a good game tonight. Sucks that Big Papi had to be almost the entire O tonight, but Schilling and Papelbon both looked fantastic. Nice to see Pap getting that fastball up into the 96 range. Don't hate too much, Stanks fans. :D

I will hate them with all the burning rage in my heart until their eventual late-season collapse, in which the rage will merely turn into laughter.

It's no "bRuins" but hey, how can anyone hope to top that bit of wit?

Touche.

He still needs to update his stereotypes past the early 90s. Someone should tell him that Seattle has more music than grunge and we don't all drink coffee.

You don't see me making jokes about the Offspring or Reel Big Fish in connection with the OC now do you!

The rest of the AL should send Ozzie gifts

Guillen, though, has a special plan for Santana before his next White Sox start.

"I'm going to call my mom in Venezuela to come here and cook for him. We'll poison him," said Guillen

Seattle wishes it could lay claim to cultural milestone musicians like Something Corporate!

3-4 opening trip, split a series in Anaheim...not bad, not great. Pitching looks excellent, defense looks rusty and the offense is whiffing and the absolute opposite of clutch. Typical Oakland ball, except for the lackluster defense. Harden goes for his first perfect game of the season against the ChiSox tomorrowww.

Piazza had 10 hits in Anaheim
:lol

I heard Selig is thinking about switching tomorrow's Indians/Angels game to a HOME game for the Angels. Nothing like playing a double header on Monday and having to fly out to California for a game on Tuesday. Ugh.

Yanks get beaten and bruised, but not god-awful yet...2-3 record. :-|
A-Rod's ridiculous with the stick right now though.

Kevin Thompson's on his way to the bigs to begin YANKIDS REVOLUTION 2007; I predict Tyler Clippard and Phil Hughes will follow in May or June <3

Also, tonight is the pitching matchup you've all been waiting for:

Johan Santana vs. Carl Pavano: CLASH OF THE TITANS

Johan pitched yesterday.

Sidney Ponson vs. Carl Pavano: BATTLE OF THE SUCK

Am I reading this correctly?

The Yanks starters have a 9.75 era.

Yes. I think Kei Igawa has been the only one to make it to the 5th inning so far this season-- and he gave up like 8 runs.
