why would the white sox give ozzie an extension?

Because before this season he was 60 games over .500? Because he helped win the first championship in 80 years? Because he was a lifelong player for the team? Because he is a fan favorite? Because there isn't exactly a large swath of good managers out there?

The only problem I have with it is the length. But that was probably done as a message to the clubhouse that the Front Office is 100% behind Ozzie. Get along with him or get out.

The problem wasn't really Ozzie with the CWS anyway.

It was more that the various Posedniks and Contrerases and Erstads of their team all became the terrible players that they are overnight...and simultaneously.

They'll probably bounce back in 2008.

Also, GIAMBI NEEDS TO ALWAYS BE IN THE STARTING LINEUP GODDAMMIT. See what happens when he's there?

Finally, Hughes is settling down. I want to see his fastball location return to what it was, so that he won't be afraid to dial it up to 95 again. Once he does that, then his other pitches become the unhittable things they tended to be earlier this year. Locate the fastball, throw the change/curve off of that. YES.

Grit is something that can only be cultivated in markets like Boston and New York. Look at Trot Nixon .. he is full of grit and brought it to the Indians and now they are successful.

Y'all hear that the AL is gonna let the team with the best record choose their post season schedule? They appearently are gonna get to pick between two different schedules.

It's actually a good idea and lets teams actually strive to be the number one in the wins column rather than just finish first.

Cracks knuckles, its good to be back.
Baseball wasn't the same without being able to post, damnit.
What happened, dude? You missed some epic Mets posting meltdowns. Good to have you back and nice that I can finally watch a game on ESPN.

EDIT: OH GOD NO STEVE PHILLIPS IS IN THE BOOTH.

I got banned for posting a picture of the old arcade game Berzerk in a Bioshock thread and caliing it the Wii version. Geez you can't even have tongue and cheek fun nowdays.:/

I'm just gonna log out of Gaf and not post once the daily Mets games are over, too many witch hunts lately.:lol

Geez Larry is probably done for the year? I betcha those Hooters gals gave him the strained oblique here.

Wright and the 30-30 club,it has a nice ring to it. He'll be in the exclusive club that only Straw and Hojo have obtained. Its been far too long. Make it happen Wright.

That's rough. I was banned in Gaming when I asked in a Persona thread a question angling to see who else got their copies from the company (trying to see who else writes for a site/etc.). The mods though I had a JP copy and was trying to leak spoilers. Try wrapping your brain around what little sense that made.

I was in Philly when Mets got swept and in NY when Mets swept the Braves out of the race. That swing on this board was insane, right now I believe Triumph jumped ship on the Braves because he's hasn't posted here in awhile.

EDIT: also can Aaron Sele go back to retirement and fluffernutter sandwiches?

Wow, we're all here for this game? Been a while.
We need mifune here also, I want all Met fans on deck towards the end of the year.
Especially since it's looking more and more like I might be gone Oct 1
:-C

Code:
 Top 1st: LA Angels
- G. Anderson doubled to left, C. Figgins and O. Cabrera scored, V. Guerrero to third
- M. Izturis singled to right center, V. Guerrero scored, G. Anderson to third, M. Izturis to second
- C. Kotchman hit sacrifice fly to deep left, G. Anderson scored, M. Izturis to third
- H. Kendrick safe at first on shortstop M. Tejada's fielding error, M. Izturis scored

That is one crazy situation with your banning, makes no sense. I dunno how the grading scale works when it comes to bans, but I just don't wanna be on the list any longer. It kills me not being able to post in daily game threads. Time to play nice for awhile. I want October to be ban free for me with the division looking to be wrapped up-playoff time baby.

Is anyone noticing last inning that last inning the strike zone was the size of China?

EDIT: This might be the first time four different Mets fans posted on a page without a Yankee post.

I saw that. And yet Maine just got squeezed on a few borderline calls that were all called balls. The ump better be consistent for the rest of this game, nothing eats at me more than a game thats blown by lollypop umpiring.

God, it's night and day how many more fans are at a Devil Rays game compared to a Marlins game.

And the Rays are such a worse team.
Stadium conditions play a big part of it, I'm sure. The Marlins play in South Florida in an open stadium. The heat and humidity is absolute torture. I'd go to way more games if I didn't feel like I was going to pass out halfway through.

Conversely, the Rays get to play in a domed stadium where these conditions don't apply.

Fake EDIT - Damn you, Renteria!

Devil Rays worse than the Marlins? I beg to differ.
No, I'd go with that. The Rays have never had a winning season, and even now, when I'd classify the Marlins as "terrible," they still have a better record than the Rays.

Dunno man...Iwamura, Pena, Crawford, Young and Upton.

Id argue that the Rays have the best 5 starting bats.

This ump man. Gotta create the drama.

I just wanna see calls go against Smoltz also, make it an even affair and were ok then. I think its still fresh in our minds with the infamous "Youre not John Smoltz" comment made by an ump last year.

Look at Lesters insanely bizarre statline tonight.

3.0 IP,7 hits, 4 ER, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts.

I have no clue what's going on with him.

Big Papi!
